Justin Benoit

Friends, It saddens me to have to tell you of the tragic passing of Justin "Chachi" Benoit.

As many of you know we lived together in my Philadelphia house, and he continued to live there until his passing. He was my friend and band member. He was a genius with impeccable taste. He loved his family, his friends, The Fall and when he would see broken umbrellas on the street. We love him and miss him dearly. Rest In Peace.

Please let's be respectful of everyone's privacy to grieve.

The above message was posted by Wes Eisold to the Cold Cave Facebook (via Pitchfork) regarding the passing of Justin Benoit, who was a touring member of Cold Cave in 2009, and recorded with them on their split with Cold Cave collaborator Dominick Fernow's Prurient project, Stars Explode. Benoit was also a writer and was published through Wes Eisold's Heartworm Press.

RIP Justin. The video for Cold Cave's "Love Comes Close," which he is featured in, is below.

Did it ever occur to anybody that maybe he was chronically ill and kept it private and that he was not on drugs and did not kill himself? What a bunch of assholes BV posters are.

like Bill Doss, sometimes the unexplained ones just enter your head at two in the morning. never in the know. but beyond that, far beyond that- rest in roses jb.

Every single one of you who put drugs or suicide, seriously? Justin was an amazing friend who helped a lot of people out over the years, the way in which he died is irrelevant. I hope when someone close to you dies, their name is tarnished to the rest of the world by a mass of similar ignorant comments.

Rest in peace Chach!

He loved hummus.

Chachi was the best.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2013 12:43 PM

Why? Because we want to know. Young people in the prime of their life are not supposed to just die, but we lost Bill Doss and Jack Rose and never was there any explanation. They're the ones who tell us his passing is 'tragic' how is it tragic? To me, tragedy is dying from licking poisonous envelopes. If he od'ed, thats just stupid. So now we get to guess and make up stories.

when a great guy dies, it just kicks the heart out of ya.

is it heavy or strange how the fact that he was a writer affects the way in which you interpret his resting?

JUSTIN, February 20, 2013, age 35, passed suddenly at his home in Phila. Beloved son of Steve and Nancy (nee Licastro), of Quinebaug CT. Dear nephew of David Licastro of Stafford VA. He was especially close to cousins, Janet and Glenn Johnson of Brooklyn CT, their daughters, Skye and Cassie; and cousin, Ray Leclerc.
Justin was a valued employee of Magna Legal in CC Phila. and will be sadly missed by colleagues and friends.
He lived and worked in several cities across the U.S including Boston and San Diego; traveled internationally and played several instruments on tour with the band "Cold Cave".
Justin spent many hours dis-cussing his love for literature, politics and economics, but his true love was his music.
He will be sadly missed. Services will be privately held with family in his home town of Quinebaug CT.

Dorner pledged edge before the burners rolled in the front door. Youth and Justice was the jam.

quoted from the nets... seems like suicide " Steve Benoit -- Thank you Wes and Cold Cave for all you have done for Justin over the years being a good friend to him and keeping his spirit alive in song his true love. He was a son I could not have been prouder of and love more. All parents give your kids a hug for me and if not with you at this call them and tell them you love them, that is how our calls always ended with Justin. I know you are still with us Justin

Worked with Justin. Liked him a lot. Had no idea he had all these talents. Wish i would have gotten to know him better.

Most here assume it was drugs. If it was not you always hear the cause.

We'll miss you Justin.

I'm late to comment because it haw taken me this long. Justin "Chachi" Benoit was not on drugs. He was deeply pissed off about something that I tried so hard to figure out, as I think most people around him did. Damn, he was a genius. Would put most of your conversation to shame. He wanted so badly to argue. About freaking everything. He pissed everyone off, and endeared himself a the same time. He was mean, and a jerk, and I miss him every freaking day. It was his birthday last month. You guys who say this drug thing, that's just mean. He was incredible...at being an asshole and the person you wanted to be with forever. He wasn't on drugs. He was angry, pissed off for reasons we don't know. He loved the Fall and he loved trying your temper. He also loved pissing his girlfriends off with having a gun. His love of his life knew this, as did I. I have waited over a year to say anything, because it would piss him off. But, damn, Chachi, you pissed me off, And i am so sorry for your girl. I thought you were my shithead until i saw you were someone else's.

great music just weird to see the singer to go from give up the ghost, some girls, and then cold cave. Great music though.
