Last week (2/21) Chairlift and Matthew Dear played the high-concept Black party at tony downtown joint Capitale. The onetime bank did make for a striking setting. Chairlift were a last-minute sub for The Virgins had to drop out of the show. The night ended with a DJ set by The Rapture. Did you go? What was the scene like? Did you visit the "special sound experience by Sennheiser" and if so what was it? More pics from the Black party are below.

The only Black Party I attend takes place at Roseland, is single-sex and includes multiple fisting stations.

I didn't go to this show, and I'm not very familiar with any of the musical acts, but I can say with the utmost certainty that it really fucking sucked. It was terrible!

It was like floating in a gravity-less bowl of hummus on an olive.

boring party. lame scene. bad sound. overpriced ticket. wannabe cool kids blowing an uninspired thursday night.
This is the same promoter that put on the Full Moon party last year. This party was perhaps even more lame than that party and if you went to Full Moon you would know how much that says.

this looks unbearable. not sure what the bands sound like but looks like a bunch of assholes.

Ugliest privileged hipster party since one of those all (mostly?) male coachella cruises

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2013 1:25 PM

Did the party even clear the guarantees for the bands?

AZN people are the ultimate hipster accessory.

I think the metal fans are confused by the presence of women at a concert.

Yeah all crap seats.

Well, a comment for posterity at least. I was there for Matthew Dear, and him and his band played the shit out of this night. It blew my mind.
The "scene" did seem like a lot of people out to a party, while I was there to listen, but what the fuck do I know, really. The art was not as present as I was hoping for either, but again, I wasn't really there for that. I did enjoy the smaller, more intimate venue. Big crowds all seem to aim their elbows at my tiny head.

"Am I one heartbeat away from receiving a damaging shock to my life and believing that love was a cost worth a witness and seeing a larger machine?
Fighting is futile but I can’t concede to interior beliefs that control and deplete you dismounting a love which has grown from beneath you an ancient machine."
