Morrissey

This just in:

Morrissey is thankful for being invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow, February 26. However, he cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests. Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed.

Morrissey stated, "As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away."

UPDATE: Morrissey playing 'Kimmel,' reschedules tour (updated dates); Staples Center show may or may not be 100% meat-free

What geniuses decided to book that pairing? What were they thinking

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 8:15 PM

I admire him for sticking to his beliefs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 8:16 PM

I hope the Duck Dynasty guys get raped by a gaggle of silverback gorillas.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 8:18 PM

What a douche.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 8:18 PM

So he is playing? Or he isn't?

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 8:18 PM

What really happened to Moz is that his douchebag exploded and blew up his asshole.

@ 8:15

I know youre using "genius" sarcastically, but hey, BV is writing about it, and we're talking about it, right? No such thing as bad publicity.

Adolf Hitler stuck by his beliefs as well. You are a fucktard.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 8:52 PM

Uncle Si > Moz

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 9:14 PM

What in the hell is Duck Dynasty and why is there a series dedicated to it?

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 9:39 PM

Pretty sure any smiths songs played in duck calls would be an improvement to his crying voice.

Posted by Adam | February 25, 2013 9:41 PM

@815, seriously, its like a storyline out of Larry Sanders.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 10:07 PM

Clearly Mo' hasn't tried Hudson Valley duck....it's the best.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 10:09 PM

Smoked duck sausage. amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 10:26 PM

Duck Dynasty > Morrissey

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 10:30 PM

Ha, BV readers are insulting Moz. Not sure if my irony detector is on or not right now. Not sure.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 11:02 PM

hummoz > hummus

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 11:23 PM

Good for him.

To haters: Would you rather him play? Wouldn't that be really hypocritical? I'm sure you would hate on that? You're on a site called BrooklynVegan hating on someone taking a stand against animal cruelty?

BTW WTF is Duck Dynasty!?

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2013 11:59 PM

i heard from a friend who knows the sister of the gay nurse that is attending to morrissey in the hospital that morrissey is in bad shape and could expire anyday now

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:11 AM

hummus pate

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:12 AM

so the takeaway from this comment thread is: sticking by your principles is lame/gay/retarded? Nice generation!

This guy is ridiculous. Thinking he can meake the World to suit him.

Morrisey is the best...

And meat eaters have small brains.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 6:51 AM

will he allow sausage to be served during the breaks?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 8:22 AM

I am surprised that Morrisey has such a closed mind. With all that he has been thru, you'd think he would be acceptant of others with different lifestyles. Very 2 faced sir!

Posted by dave | February 26, 2013 8:24 AM

morrissey rides a cock horse

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 8:52 AM

@2:10

Why can't he do both? Stick by his "principles" and still play the show? Doesn't mean he's endorsing Duck Dynasty.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 8:54 AM

Sad to see the very-few comments on this blog these days are nothing more then pure gibberish.

Posted by bill | February 26, 2013 9:19 AM

What if a commercial Morrissey doesn't like airs during the program? What if one of the members of the crew brought a ham sandwich for lunch? What if a chair in the green room is made of leather? What if the go-for brings back milk with the coffee order?

It must be hard to live the life of Morrissey.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 9:19 AM

Good for him!

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 9:32 AM

Would it be ok for him to play the game Duck Hunt on Nintendo?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 9:33 AM

^I would think so...many others play call of duty right?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 9:53 AM

duck dynasty > Moz

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 10:16 AM

Kudos to Morrissey for standing up for what he believes in!

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 10:40 AM

^he seems to be sitting in the pic though

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 10:51 AM

The outrage over this is truly lost on me...

The people who are complaining about the cancellation don't like him anyway, so they'd be bitching regardless of whether he played the show or not.

To the braniac who likened Morrissey to Hitler for standing up for his beliefs - good job, you are winning at Internets.

I like Morrissey, and I'm glad he takes his morals seriously. That he would do such a thing knowing full well the majority will blast him for it shows his strength of character. He's doing it to set an example and the people who love him will understand why.

It's pretty incredible that a site with the word "vegan" in the title is drawing such an unsympathetic audience to this story. I'm not even vegetarian or vegan and that seems weird to me.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 11:15 AM

i wonder if Morrissey was about to hit his head on a low ceiling and i yelled "duck!", would he thank me or call me a cunt?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 11:21 AM

^What about if you were giving him a "bill" at a vegan restaraunt...would he be mad or just pay it!

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 11:24 AM

I'm sure the cast of Duck Dynasty would prefer not to share the show with such a freakin pompous a-hole.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 11:38 AM

I'm sure all the people who shop at WalMart are excited to see the cast of Duck Dynasty appearing on Kimmel. I love the fact that Morrissey cancelled.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:00 PM

I think Duck Dynasty is a show about a family that has grown wealthy running a business that makes and ships out fake ducks to be used in hunting. I caught a few minutes with a friend once and that was how he explained it to me; it's a reality show and the people are I guess what you would call rednecks? The episode I saw involved a game of flag football, and then a guy got mad because another guy messed up an order.

Moz should have just played Meat is Murder and changed the lines about turkey to duck or something.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:04 PM

@ 11:15

By not doing Kimmel show Moz is saying that he'e completely intolerant of other people's pov. He'd look like a bigger man of if he had an adult/ rational discussion w the Duck Dyn folks. Instead he comes off as an self absorbed twat.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:08 PM

Morrissey always falls back on animal rights statements when he has nothing else to say and nothing else creative going on. Not that he's insincere about animal rights--but he always uses this issue as his Plan B when he hits a creative dry spell.

If you saw his latest NYC shows, you know he's in a dry spell now.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:24 PM

I posted this on another forum but I'll repost it here too: If we look at what Morrissey actually wrote, we can see that the premise of Duck Dynasty is not, in itself, the reason why he refused to do the show. Yes, he finds their actions appalling, but he is more concerned with HIS stand on animal rights being muddied by appearing on a show where he MAY appear to be supporting others with the opposing view. If anyone saw his recent appearance on Colbert, the host made jokes and teased him about his stand (in a satirical way of course) but one was left with no doubt as to how Morrissey feels on the subject. He clearly does not have a problem appearing on a show with a different opinion, as long as his stand is still made clear. In other words, it appears that he would rather be criticized for upholding his beliefs too strongly, than mistakenly compromising his beliefs. Agree with him or not, I can still respect that.

Posted by BobbyB | February 26, 2013 12:25 PM

Moz just isn't cutting it musically these days. He can't get through this tour, physically, and the shows are not up to his standards. so protesting Duck Dynasty is a classy and convenient way for him to duck out of a performance he isn't capable of doing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:41 PM

12:24 -- Umm, you made no sense.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 12:59 PM

IIRC there is a right wing guy/girl who posts on BV that sticks by his/her principles, and he/she gets ripped a new asshole for it. Oh, I see .... stick by your principles so long as I don't disagree with them. #smallmindedpussies

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 2:31 PM

TED NUGENT STICKS BY HIS PRINCIPLES

YEAH TED NUGENT! YEAH GUN RIGHTS!

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 2:32 PM

Why is it "sticking by your principles" to cancel an obligation because you don't share the same views as some one else? Did duck dynasty threaten to cancel because there was to be a vegan on the show? Close minded in my opinion. Can we not just respect that different people share different beliefs?

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 4:23 PM

Duck Travesty doesn't even know what Vegan means. If they ever find out, it'll be when they are asked about it live on camera to elicit some douchebag response to drive up ratings.

Undoubtedly a lot of Moz fans will watch the episode anyway.

In related news... Mamoun has a reality show coming out on A&E called "Chickpea Dynasty".

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2013 6:09 PM

Morrissey cancels Kimmel appearance due to Dag Nasty.

Posted by Anonymous | February 27, 2013 12:08 AM

You people are a bunch of idiots! Just because some people are against murder and stand up for what they believe in, doesn't mean they should receive all these nasty comments. Grow up, losers. You people are pathetic and you will clearly never get anywhere in life. In case you haven't realized, Morrissey is famous and you people are a bunch of disgusting fuckers who are most likely fat, ugly as shit, and going to die of a heart attack at a young age. Enjoy your pathetic lives! :-)
