pretty boring line-up actually.

Posted by Anonymous | February 19, 2013 10:35 PM

i went to maybe 30-40 shows back in 93-96...saw every band. there was no unity at all. just a bunch of goons and gangsters manhandling each other.

the only show that felt like some community was warzone. ray beez was awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | February 19, 2013 10:48 PM

they weren't that great the first time around

Posted by The Punisher | February 19, 2013 11:03 PM

The hypocrisy of the whole "unity" and "crew" mentality was and is such a joke. These thugs who preached "unity" practiced the direct opposite (de)evolved into nothing more than affliction wearing, sleeve-tat having goons.

Posted by Anonymous | February 19, 2013 11:15 PM

why not just call it a sausage fest?

Posted by Anonymous | February 19, 2013 11:30 PM

Judge reuniting is total, utter bullshit.

First off, Mike "Judge" Ferraro swore up and down he'd never, EVER do a Judge show because it's not in his heart, now he's doing one after completely divorcing himself from hardcore for over two decades as the last Judge show was in 1990 or '91, and they didn't even play NYC in 1990 or 1991. I think they played a grand total of three NYC shows including only one show at CBGB in 1988-89. If you don't care, then what the fuck are you doing being into hardcore? You like supporting full of shit hypocrites? I guess so.

Second, NO ONE in Judge including Mike and Porcell is straightedge, yet Mike will be singing about being straightedge thus words he doesn't mean / about something he's not (anymore.) If that's cool with you, you're a fucking poser because saying what you mean and are is what hardcore is all about, not singing words you don't mean about what you are not.

Last Judge is playing for the money only. No duh/shit/kidding? If you don't care, again, you don't get hardcore, never got it, and never will.

This band is so overrated. Solid debut 7", ok LP not as good as the debut 7", awful final 7" or two they slapped the name "Judge" on to sell it.

Mike please PLEASE come onstage with a bottle of beer in one hand, a joint in another, and a cigarette in your mouth to put the final nail in the coffin for the longest running joke in underground music culture history: STRAIGHTEDGE.

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2013 8:31 AM

10:48 - You missed the best era of hardcore by about 10 years, so you're in no position to judge anything (no pun intended).

But much more importantly, "$$$traightedge For A Night/1:22AM" is none other than D! I can tell that long lost, ranting writing style from a mile away. Welcome back D...we missed ya around here!

Porcell is SXE.

He did fall off for a few yrs, but has been SXE for at least the last 15 yrs.

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2013 11:56 AM

Porcell is not SXE, he just no longer drinks, smokes, does drugs, does any two or all three anymore.

He broke edge. Once you break edge, you are no longer edge no matter how many years you've stopped drinking, smoking, doing drugs, doing any two all three. You cannot reclaim the edge. You are what is known as "Round Two Edge" - that's what Porcell is.

Posted by Porcell Is Round Two Edge | February 20, 2013 12:25 PM

^ holy shit. We have actually devolved into this discussion again.

Posted by xTAINTx | February 20, 2013 12:51 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2013 1:29 PM

All I know is, Judge is a great fucking band that I have never seen before (just missed them). Being straight edge is a personal decision. I have never broken edge, but don't claim to place judgement on others. Doing so just makes you look childish and VERY new to the scene, whether you are or not.

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2013 3:07 PM

Reading these comments, you can really tell what's wrong with the H.C. scene... A bunch of intolerant know-it-all who never made it out of adolescence. Unity? A joke.

D all up in this bitch!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2013 3:51 PM

yall can kiss my )*(

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2013 4:33 PM

Hey xTAINTx you don't have to be involved in this discussion. I've devolved into saying hardcore is not about being insincere? What I'm talking about is an evolution of discussion and this Judge reunion is a perfect thing to spark that discussion.

Mike "Judge" Ferraro and Porcell are pretending to be straightedge and into hardcore again for a quick buck. Mike wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with hardcore 1990-2013 and I resent that he's back and his "band" is being lauded. It's actually quite sad, ridiculous, and pathetic that people are wayyy more psyched on a band who's back for the money than they are on current, active hardcore bands who are not playing for the money, which is why the BNB Bowl needs to either take a break for two years or stop altogether (I think it's run its course as is nothing more than an exercise in self-oneupmanship ie what headliner can we get this year to top last year's?) As for Porcell just a few years ago he was doing a rock band for a hot minute called Last Of The Famous then realized it wasn't selling so he went back to what sold: Youth Of Today, Bold, and now Judge.
He and Mike are sellouts plain and simple.

Btw fuck Mike for doing this show for the simple fact that when someone somehow got in touch with him to offer Judge a show he literally said "Fuck you" and hung up in the guy's face. Nice, real nice, way to treat someone who cared enough about your overrated one-record wonder (the debut 7") band enough to offer it a show. Mike ought to have been thankful someone reached out to him. 'Bet he didn't say fuck you to BNB and hang up in their face. So he tells one guy fuck you and the other none of that? Dick.

Judge is a cash-in. You want to support that, contribute to the cheapening of something so precious which hardcore is which Judge was part of, go ahead. Most of you consider it just that, a genre unlike any other, or so it seems, so I'm not shocked or surprised. You come from the world of Headbanger's Ball, 120 Minutes, Lollapalooza, and Grunge where it's all about the music, who cares about the message and sincerity in it? You're cool with Judge singing hollow words, knock yourself out. I know most of it has to do with you wish you were in a time you missed and reliving your youth for the so-called "oldtimers". I think reliving one's youth is sad and ridiculous as you're not that age anymore, 1988-90 is long gone, and yes, you are still young at 38-4? you've just been conditioned to think you're an old fart. Society and a bunch of under 30 wannabe '80s and '90s hardcore herbs think and tell you you're that and you believe them.

Posted by Hardca$$$h-in | February 20, 2013 4:39 PM

1:29pm Who gives a shit? You, obviously. You don't have to ya know. You think a bunch of fakes playing what they don't mean anymore is "awesome" and "rules", knock yourself out, poser (what you are.)

3:07pm I have to laugh at what you posted. You do know that you're crying about how I'm passing judgement about a band who passed so much judgement they named themselves "Judge" right? They called themselves that complete with crossed sledgehammers (when it should've been gavels) fraternity-house style as their entire group of friends and anklebiters were a fraternity just as intolerant of people not like them or part of their frat as a real fraternity.

Mike judged people plenty, time he's judged. So it was ok for straightedge people back in the '80s like Youth Of Today and Judge to Judge all who were not straightedge but they can't be judged for being edgebreaking phonies out for one last cash-in on what they don't mean anymore? Fuck that. Payback's a bitch and yeah I want this to go hundreds of replies.

Posted by Resuscitation Of Morals | February 20, 2013 4:50 PM

Wow that announcement by Bowery Presents is not cool.

The announcement was made too close to showdate.

Out Of Control Circumstance = Cockney Rejects couldn't make it into the US probably.

What's with citing "low ticket sales"? That should be between artist and promoter not made public.

What "pending violence"? 'Way to assume the bands YOU booked will attract violent element. Maybe you, Bowery Presents, shouldn't have booked a show for bands who draw people who have a proclivity to violence, but wait, you're hipsters who decided it was time to make a quick buck off of hardcore punk here in there after over a decade of doing indie rock shows with some metal thrown in here and there, so this is what you get.

I most certainly won't go as I don't support phonies.

Enough with nostalgia in hardcore.

It's 2013. Too bad you missed seeing Judge the first time around. Judge 2013 is phony. If you want to see a phony "band" go ahead. Be cool with insincerity.

Maybe the haters and the posers sabotaged our scene the first time around, but unity always reunites. the bonds of brotherhood forged in battle on the streets of NYC are stronger than steel and no MTV pretty boy bands can ever shatter them. While you chase after some plastic supermodel the REAL OG HARDCORE CREW is getting their revenge, no mercy shown, no prisoners taken. I WILL BE THERE RUNNING THE PIT WILL YOU BE MAN ENOUGH TO STEP TO THIS

So fucking what Mike Judge is a fat ass hypocrite, big deal. So is
99% of the scene one way or the other. It doesn't stand for what it used to anymore and I could care less. Hanging with
Friends, getting drunk and listening to good music sounds

'Love people calling other people judgemental about a band who calls themselves Judge and acted like one.

"So what Mike Judge is a fatass hypocrite?"

"It doesn't stand for what it used to anymore and I could care less."

Right, you didn't, don't, and never will get hardcore.

Go to the show, hang out with your friends, and make believe you're part of something real. It'll sink in that you're the miserable bunch around 2-3am when you realize you saw a band fake it, your time with hardcore is long up, and I'll be well into having sex with my girl. I'll also be $40 richer as I'll put on the Judge 7" (the only good thing they did) I bought when it came out for $3 from the original Venus Records on W.8th St. right before lunch that day to remember when they were real not a cash-in.

Posted by Hey Stevie | February 21, 2013 9:56 AM

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2013 12:26 PM

"Did D get fired from C-Town? What's going on?"

For real. For months no calls, no posts, no maniacal rants ... and now he's back like the head-shaved phoenix rising from the sweaty undulating pile of JV sausage (e.g. NYHC Neanderthals).

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2013 12:30 PM

I like to think that D had taken up Eastern Meditation. That at 45 years old he had found peace, and put the politics of the NYHC scene behind him. But then this Judge announcement came up, and that was all he could stand, and he could stands no more!

Also anyone notice the fake cancellation of a Murphys Law show on the same day that D reappeared? Hmmmm....

Rancid headlined BnB last year and the lineup was pretty solid. This year fails in comparison, no? I think Black Train Jack is a cool addition to Judge, but all the other bands are mediocre at best. Breakdown, really, again..what line up is this? The pre jerkoff, but current jerkoff scabs, no thanks. Who do you think they'll have next year? Lets hear some ideas and have fun....

Burn
Side By Side
Straight Ahead
Crippled Youth
Better Than A Thousand or Shelter
Insted
Uniform Choice
Stigma
Eye For An Eye

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2013 8:59 AM

Burn - They'll do it for the money, too, probably next year.

Straight Ahead - Tommy and Rob want to do it but Craig and Armand don't, so no dice, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

Insted - Not a bad idea. The ONLY 1980s straightedge band whose members are still and never broke edge. I think they'd do it if they were asked to play.

Eye For An Eye - Highly unlikely.

Side By Side, Uniform Choice - Never.

Crippled Youth, Better Than A Thousand, Shelter, Stigma - Please.

Posted by Reunions, Schmeunions | February 22, 2013 9:14 AM

Correction:

If Uniform Choice ever returned, they would return with new music and it would not be hardcore - think Staring Into The Sun.

UC playing songs about the edge would be even dumber than Judge doing that.

Reagan Youth in 2013...wow...now that's a band who needs to take a fuckin' hike.

Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law, Cro-Mags, Sheer Terror, Urban Waste, Reagan Youth, Antidote, and The Mob, all NYHC bands who formed in the early '80s (all before '83 save Sheer Terror who formed in '84) need to HANG IT THE FUCK UP.

Agnostic Front - Liberty And Justice For... their last good studio record came out 26 years ago.

Murphy's Law - Hasn't put out a new album since 2001.

Cro-Mags - No original members or members who wrote the music milking the same album over and over and over again with ZERO intention to put out new music.

Sheer Terror - Paul Bearer is on his THIRD guitarist in as many years. Control freak? Yep.

Urban Waste - Without the original singer. Some guy on vocals.

Reagan Youth - Ditto.

Antidote - Their first record, the 7", was the only good record, the current singer is the second one, they sucked ass on Return To Burn (hard rock sellout attempt) and suck bigger ass with their newest release.

The Mob - Another band putting out ass chili on vinyl.

Agnostic Front and Murphy's Law formed in 1982 and celebrated thirty years of existence in 2012 - ya think they could've played final shows to close out that run? Thirty years is a great run. But no, they have to keep going on like band version of once-great baseball players who can't admit they're done.

FUCK JUDGE.

Phonies.

Cashgrabbers.

All the new york bands were boston wanna-bes. that's why they had to call up 700 of their friends whenever boston bands came to play - they had to make sure boston knew how tough they were, outnumbering boston 10 to 1.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 11:02 AM

this guy ranting about boston obviously wasnt there. another person living off stories some other chump told them. there were fights, believe me but we were all one big family, especially the bands and the crews. dont get it mixed up you little bitch. keep lying and hiding and making up shit or believing everything you hear you fucking sheep. the only people who got their ass kicked were shit talking no nothings like you boy.....long live the real crews of hard core. there will always be nay sayers because there will always be haters!

^ gotcha. have a nice day.

Porcell fell off once. Literally one time. And he gladly tells the story in interviews. He is only human. Someone who knows him well, really well Porcell and Cappo are as edge as it gets. Veggie, no drugs, no alcohol. Get over yourself pretending like you actually know because of some douchy rumors you may have heard. Some of you are seriously bitter (probably fat and unhealthy) people with nothing better to do than sit around judging everyone else. Take a look at your life and see if you can actually say you have made a positive impact in anyone's life ever?

Posted by KW138 | May 4, 2013 5:07 PM

You people are insane! The money JUDGE is getting/got paid to do these reunion gigs - once their travel, accommodations and other expenses are covered - then spilt up 5 ways (if they split it evenly) would probably allow them to survive individually for about a month in today's world, and on a very conservative budget. ONE MONTH. Also, when you're as old as these guys are, one month goes by pretty damn fast. Sold out? So does not selling out mean they get to hang out with all you miserable pricks and be broke and afraid to make their own decisions in life without being kicked out of the club? Really? Goddam, give me the dough to play the show, WHERE DO I SIGN!?

JUDGE was THEIR band. THEY wrote the songs, performed the music, recorded the records, etc. They influenced a zillion other bands to emulate what they did, and people still enjoy the records they made to this day. "Back in the day" they probably didn't make jack shit from the band. They have every right to reunite, play their songs and get paid to do it if they decide to frickin' do so. If you think making one of the most classic hardcore 7"s of all time and a 'decent' follow up album is not enough material please point me towards the other hardcore bands that made top-notch quality albums for decades. you guys take yourselves way too seriously and if you accuse JUDGE of being money hungry you'd better look around your room from your goddam computer desk and if anyone aside from yourself is paying your rent or for your internet connection you have no idea what you're talking about.

In addition, anyone who is straight edge and remains that way into adulthood for many years would never give a shit about anyone else's decisions in life. You simply cannot be that rigid and last. Worry about what YOU do and is straight edge is important to you then make sure YOU stay straight edge. Give up the Nazi-esque dogma, rules, hero worship and grow the fuck up.

^man D trolled the shit out of this dude. he's all kinds of bent out of shape. lvlz

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 12:52 PM

You would have thought Mike Judge could have at least gotten into shape a tad for the reunion.

Also why was procell dressed like Andy Cap from the comic strip?

Posted by fred | May 19, 2013 8:42 PM

12:10pm

If anyone should "grow the fuck up" it's the four old herbs who went onstage as Judge. They faked it plain and simple. You're cool with that, then you're cool with fakery.

The primary motivation for them playing this weekend was, is, and always will be MONEY, and it's embarrassing and pathetic - what they and these shows are to NYHC which officially died yesterday.

What's the next hardcore show in NYC and how many people from the 3000 minus x people who attended the Bowl will be at them? That show would be lucky to have 10 people who went to the Bowl attend it.

You can delude yourself into thinking it's real all you want when fact is it's not.

Judge isn't owed shit. They haven't put in even a tenth of the work Sick Of It All and Agnostic Front have put in.

Posted by D | May 20, 2013 12:07 AM

Agnostic Front wrote ONE great record...28 years ago. Sick of it All wrote ONE good, not great, record 24 years ago. Those guys are "career-core" to the bone. Those guys make money off of kids. Don't try to act like they don't do this shit for money. They don't have 401k's

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 12:46 AM

Mike Judge is a sweaty fat pile of blubber

I mean in 20 years you could have least thought the guy could lose a pound or 2

But instead hes fatter than ever.

A pure Icon for the 40 something retard who still wears camo shorts and doesnt drink because there wives wont let them

Posted by tim | May 21, 2013 5:49 PM

12:46pm Agnostic Front wrote one great record? Bullshit to that. They wrote two: Victim In Pain and Liberty And Justice For... haha. AF should've never reformed in '96. AF is not career-core cuz Roger has been an electrician who also fixes Harleys for years while Vinny has been a building owner who did construction for many years, nice try though.

Sick Of It All put out two great records: the 7" and the first lp, a good one (the second lp), a decent one (the third lp) then lost me after that. SOIA is not career-core because there's nothing a normal career offers them at the end of their run whenever that is. When SOIA breaks up, EVERYONE in SOIA will be working until they're 67 like most people.

Posted by D | May 22, 2013 2:45 AM

Btw 12:46pm Victim In Pain came out in '84, 29 years ago.

2013 - 1984 = 29

...so get your facts straight before you slag the greatest NYHC band that ever existed (yeah that's right better than Judge the one 7" wonder who put out an ok lp and a shitass posthumous second 7" whose singer vanished from hardcore by '90 after the band existed for maybe two full years.)

Posted by D | May 22, 2013 2:51 AM

Mike Judge has reformed Judge to make money so he can buy a new motorcycle and
a box full of red bandanas

Posted by ted | May 22, 2013 3:32 PM

D - I give you credit for sticking with SOIA for more than the 7" and first lp. I tried to like anything after that, but just couldn't.

Posted by xTAINTx | May 22, 2013 4:12 PM

At first I didn't read all of your posts. And I realized the last post is from May ;)
What I could read was "ohhh they are not Straight Edge anymore and you can't break Straight Edge for a few years and start again with Straight Edge".
I don't why you are thinking in this way, cause it's your own personal choice and normally every guy in the scene would respect it. This is my experience in the scene we live.
If it is the way you live I never wanna join your fuckin scene, but possibly you are only kids on computer.
And possibly I am not as old as you and have not this experience you have, but I can imagine you're stuck in your mind.
The only thing I would say "respect your self and respect other decisions (except it's fascism or racism or any other fuckin ignorant bullshit)"
And apologize if I've made mistakes in writing this text, cause I'm not a native speaker english.

Posted by Hupe | October 13, 2013 5:47 AM

No, meiner bruder, your edge is an extension of your virginity. once you break it, it is destroyed forever, and everyone in the scene will know that you have turned your back on true hardcore.

Posted by Anonymous | October 13, 2013 6:19 AM

Pretty sad you are so worked up over what I wrote you're replying to me five months later, Hupe.

"What I could read was "ohhh they are not Straight Edge anymore and you can't break Straight Edge for a few years and start again with Straight Edge"."

That's right, but thing is no one in Judge 2013 is straightedge. 'Sad you think people singing what they don't mean like Mike Ferrarro/Judge is cool when it isn't because it cheapens the message. Most of hardcore 2013 is a joke, it doesn't need traces of a time when it wasn't one being part of it. Mike Ferraro is full of shit. He's doing it for the money, nothing more, nothing less. St.Vitus was a token small venue show and still about the money cuz it was $25. Ya can't play for $10, $15, or even $20? $25...what a fucking joke.

"I don't why you are thinking in this way, cause it's your own personal choice and normally every guy in the scene would respect it. This is my experience in the scene we live."

I don't have to "respect" anything. It's Mike Ferraro's choice to completely divorce himself from "the scene" 1990-2013 then come back to it singing words he doesn't mean anymore and hasn't meant for over two decades for thirty grand a night, it's my choice to call out him/Judge on it. Too bad and ignore me if you don't like it.

"If it is the way you live I never wanna join your fuckin scene, but possibly you are only kids on computer."

Let's say I had a "fuckin scene". I wouldn't let you in it anyway if I was given the power to admit and deny entry, since you never got it, don't get it, and never will get it. You don't want to be part of a scene which is supposed to be about sincerity and honesty, good - stay away.

"And possibly I am not as old as you and have not this experience you have, but I can imagine you're stuck in your mind."

Stuck in my mind? You're right, you don't have the experience I have had, so shut up. Au contraire, I am absolutely, positiviely right with my mind. Too bad you're blinded by jocking 1980s NYHC like 99% of Europeans do.

"The only thing I would say "respect your self and respect other decisions (except it's fascism or racism or any other fuckin ignorant bullshit)"

Bullshit, and don't tell me what to do. As much as I have went off on Judge, I have not told them to stop playing. They want to cash in, fine, it's already looking like that as I've read that they're playbooking it now (same speeches, set etc.)

"And apologize if I've made mistakes in writing this text, cause I'm not a native speaker english.

Posted by Anonymous | October 14, 2013 10:13 AM

I know what's up. Judge 2013 is fakery to the umpteenth degree, a fat slob who broke edge in 1989, completely divorced himself from hardcore in 1990, and came back 23 years later for one last cash-in and ego-boost (Mike Ferraro.) Keep deluding yourself in thinking Judge 2013 is sincere when they're full of shit like you.

Posted by D | October 14, 2013 10:42 AM
