Passion Pit @ MSG
Passion Pit
Passion Pit

Passion Pit took their tour with Matt & Kim and Icona Pop to NYC for their largest headlining show in the city yet on Friday (2/8) at Madison Square Garden. Despite the blizzard that hit Northeast that day, the NYC show went on and the place was still pretty packed. The band came out to similar bursts of neon that populate the cover of their great 2012 album, Gossamer, and opened with that album's skittering track, "I'll Be Alright." They continued making their way through a 17-song set that was split pretty evenly between both full lengths and ended with a blizzard of confetti for the encore performance of "Sleepyhead."

Though the MSG show went on as planned, the band also had a Boston show scheduled for Saturday (2/9), which they pushed forward a day. More pictures from the MSG show and the setlist (which was pretty much the same as Boston's) below...

Take a Walk, Take a Walk, Take a Walk, Take a Walk, Take a Walk...

One song encore at MSG....guys really stepped up their game.

Posted by Venkman | February 11, 2013 11:26 AM

How empty was this?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:27 AM

god, Matt & Kim are the worst

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:31 AM

Not empty at all.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:33 AM

Looks like they darkened all of the empty sections, like the side stage seats. It would be hard to tell how empty without an objective report. One honest person on twitter said less than 1000 people for the openers, and that he hadn't seen the Garden so empty and quiet since Reggie Miller scored 8 points in 9 seconds to stun the Knicks and everyone left.

I was there. Was maybe 3/4 full. Didn't really matter how many people were there though. Passion Pit was great but cut things short (or so it seemed) so people could get home quicker and safer.

Yes, Matt and Kim do indeed suck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:40 AM

i was there. it was packed.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:41 AM

I was on the floor and that was empty. It was a strange show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:43 AM

I know for a fact the publicists for both Matt & Kim and Passion Pit hit this board and pretend to be fans, talking about how awesome performances/albums are.

Get ready for some overly passionate "fan" comments, arguing with everyone and asking you to name your favorite artists if you don't like them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:45 AM

^So in your opinion no one who isn't a publicist can like their albums or live show?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:47 AM

I was there and enjoyed myself. I honestly thought Passion Pit was a bit awkward in arena while Matt & Kim seemed more confident. If only M&K songs actually had decent hooks though...

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:48 AM

Instead of attending, I publicly shamed the Bowery Presents on their Facebook fan page.

My rant got 1 like.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:52 AM

honestly if I was Matt and Kim you better believe I'd be hounding my publicist to hit the blogs day after a show pumping up the performance. especially an anonymous board? you'd be stupid not to.

I wasn't there, but I can't picture this being good. I saw them at a festival last year, and his voice sounded awful. He had no stage presence, and looked nervous. They didn't have much of a stage show. Tell me that MSG was different, and how?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 11:59 AM

It was empty.. I think there was less people then when Arcade Fire played.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 12:00 PM

It was pretty empty when Icona Pop played, but it seemed pretty full by the time Passion Pit took the stage.

They had to black out the seats behind or directly to the side of the stage, but that's normal for a show at MSG (since you couldn't see from those spots anyway).

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 12:13 PM

You guys are such haters.
1) It was very full. I was shocked, actually. The only blacked out section was behind the stage - WHICH IS NORMAL!

2) THERE WAS A BLIZZARD. Ticket prices were $10-$15 over face at the start of the week for the cheap seats

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 12:29 PM

has "Kim" successfully added on that penis yet?

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 12:58 PM

I'd pick The Lumineers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 1:57 PM

Packed show. Crowd was a little late, but by the time Passion Pit went on, it was pretty full, even with the weather

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 3:35 PM

I'd go see Tame Impala at MSG (If I had mushrooms.)

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 3:35 PM

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but after the show, I dipped a pita triangle in such a way that I created a Hummus Pit.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 4:46 PM

"Packed show"
Dude, there are pictures, it wasn't packed. MSG turned off the lights in the many empty sections.

Posted by Anonymous | February 11, 2013 5:28 PM

I was at the show front row and wanted to see pictures from that night. I was shocked when I scrolled down and saw a picture of myself
(White la lune shirt, brown hair, pointing). I was very very happy with the concert.
