Guns N' Roses at Webster Hall in 2012 (more by Ryan Muir)
Guns N' Roses

Who saw this coming? When NYC festival Governors Ball announced their 2013 lineup the headliners were Kanye West, Kings of Leon, and one unannounced artist. You guys guessed things like Phoenix, The Postal Service, Vampire Weekend, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but now the announcement of the third headliner has come and it's... Guns N' Roses. Amazing? Totally Lame? What do you think?

The band, featuring Axl Rose and no other original members, last visited NYC in 2012 to play a series of club shows.

Tickets for the festival, which also includes Kendrick Lamar, Beach House, The xx, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Nas, Japandroids, and so many more are still available. The fest goes down from June 7 - 9 on Randall's Island.

In related news, Kendrick Lamar just announced a headlining NYC show happening before and presented by Governors Ball.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:35 AM

Sorry to everyone stupid enough to buy tickets to this.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:37 AM

Legitimacy of this fest just went down the toilet.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:37 AM

my brain exploded

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:37 AM

Take that Coachella

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:38 AM

who is throwing money at this thing

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:40 AM

Guns and who?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:42 AM

Wow. Terrible. Lol!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:44 AM

ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:47 AM

WHO ARE THE AD WIZARDS WHO CAME UP WITH THIS ONE?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:48 AM

Wait, wait, wait...BV actually reads the comments?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:52 AM

Embarrassing and irrelevant. Lets see if Axl actually shows up on time for his slot.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:57 AM

Oh man, I just spit out my coffee with laughter when I saw this. Probably one of the worst decisions man ever made.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:59 AM

ROFLMFAO

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 8:59 AM

Great move - I can't think of a better headliner

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:00 AM

In the Fringe alternate universe Slash and Axl reunite with all the remaining original members from GNR and headline Coachella

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:01 AM

Get the old men wearing hawaiian shirts out of these festival committees. What a fucking joke, ha ha!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:02 AM

rough

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:05 AM

fuck!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:05 AM

Hey Brooklyn Vegan, I'm waiting for you to say that this is an early April Fools joke.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:06 AM

What's a festival committee?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:08 AM

I think he was referring to the cone heads who sit around a table & come up with shitty bands to play this festival.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:10 AM

The funniest part is that the young "hipster" demographic is too thick to care or find this amusingly ironic. This is basically a draw to the mid-30 year old fan base....the main group who probably purchased advanced tickets. Just a bad overall decision. Sadly, this will draw thousands of NYC and Long Island meatheads/ d-bags/ a-holes to the crowd. Enjoy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:10 AM

this festival is going to suuuuuuck.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:13 AM

at least they will sell tickets
all those older people will buy them to prove "they still got it" to their younger gfs and bfs LOL

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:18 AM

YANNS N ROSES

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:19 AM

They didn't even ask my cat and dog if they wanted to headline, they're really friendly and super cute!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:21 AM

Governors Ball is now the laughing stock of all festivals.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:23 AM

lmao

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:23 AM

I seem to recall someone on here saying his dad was a big "insider" and that he knew the 3rd headliner was going to be Arcade Fire for sure. Guess daddy isn't that important after all.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:24 AM

fuck it I'd rather see Guns N Roses than Grimes or some shit

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:26 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHAH, KNEES, KNEES

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:28 AM

Of all the acts with new albums being released this year, they choose G&R?! I seriously want to barf!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:29 AM

"Governors Ball is now the laughing stock of all festivals."

No kidding, Kings of Leon are the shits!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:31 AM

Better than Vampire Weekend

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:34 AM

Kanye, Kings and Guns...Randall's Island will officially be the 9th circle of hell on that balmy June weekend.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:36 AM

looks like i'll be saving myself a couple hundred dollars this summer..

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:37 AM

Lol this is going to be hilarious. you go to a festival to be entertained. this will be entertaining. one headliner is not make or break.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:46 AM

They said it would be something unexpected, boy were they right.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:46 AM

I am one of those fools who bought an early pass...I seriously do not want any of my hard earned cash going to GNR....sad sad day

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:52 AM

^^^well, you always have the option of enjoying every band before the headliner and then leave
but I understand your pain, this totally blows, wonder if he will even show up

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 9:59 AM

@9:52 - You bought an early pass to a festival with 2 already-announced lame headliners and NOW you're complaining?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:03 AM

This ruins everything.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:08 AM

pretty sure randal's has a curfew, so they probably won't even get a chance to play!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:11 AM

this is fucking amazing, you kids don't have a fucking clue

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:27 AM

what i would do to see him do another face-plant on the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:31 AM

^that would be worth the price of a ticket for sure.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:31 AM

Now, that's a shame.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:36 AM

Didn't realize those guys were still doing shows except for the once a year show in Japan.

Posted by Natural Fatt Loss | February 7, 2013 10:39 AM

Ugh . . . who wants to buy my tix?

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:40 AM

Come on people, this is just funny as shit. Not terrible really, just funny. The lineup below the headliners is still solid and who from "here" actually goes to this anyway? Let the kids play for Christ's sake.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 10:45 AM

so GnR get third billing under Kings of Leon?....yeesh that's gotta hurt Axl

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:02 AM

I stopped by to laugh at all the fucktwats who called the Gov Ball lineup awesome and amazing when it dropped.

Ha. Ha. Ha. You losers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:13 AM

There's a car crash quality to this headliner that's sorta funny. But it also brings the wrong crowd to the festival, the kind that will make difficult enjoying the good bands on the rest of the bill. I'll probably look for cheap tickets on Stubhub/CL the week of the show if I don't make other plans. They could've announced a third headliner that would've made me pull the trigger now but they didn't.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:15 AM

only way i'm going is if kanye, kendrick, and japandroids perform on the same day. GNR is a joke of a third headliner.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:20 AM

With your bitch slap rapping and your cocaine tongue, you get nuuuthing done.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:30 AM

More of a PUNCHLINE than a HEADLINE.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:31 AM

::quotes song from Chinese Democracy::

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:43 AM

I'd say that GNR is actually the main headliner and not under Kanye or KOL. GNR close out the festival and you know 50% of the crowd will be gone gone gone by the time Axl hits the stage.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:45 AM

this makes it easy to skip the closing acts and BEAT THE TRAFFIC

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:47 AM

GnR are billed 3rd under Kings Of Leon in the ads....I'm all for Axi hating, but that is truly lame

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:55 AM

HAHAHAHA that's funny.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 12:00 PM

People are hating on this, but I actually think GNR will be pretty entertaining. Not like I'd ever pay to see them when they come to town, but if they are gonna be there anyway I might as well stick around and check em out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 12:09 PM

Get over it. They have a solid lineup. If you don't want to go then go see Death Grips or some obscure indie band at Glasslands.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 12:10 PM

I was hangin at the Island
I'm a scarf wearing fan
watching Kings, and Guns, and Kanye
Can I bum a smoke man

Posted by Warren Zeevahn | February 7, 2013 12:12 PM

You people are idiots. Axl Rose > 99% of the bands you hype up and disappear in a year.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 12:36 PM

If they play the hits then I don't see what the problem is, fun songs to see live, maybe somebody will throw something at axl during the show and he'll completely stop the show and, through an interpreter, berate the crowd for 5 minutes

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:16 PM

Bite me.

Posted by Slash(!) | February 7, 2013 1:17 PM

There is nothing solid about this line up. If you think it is a solid one may i suggest you are completely out of touch and a sporadic concert goer to say the least

May i also suggest you get the fuck off this blog quick and go to some generic run of the mill one where people have no real discerning taste. You will be embraced warmly there and together you can all rejoice in how this stupid lame festival will "kill"

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:37 PM

Axl Rose > Kanye

All day, everyday.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:43 PM

Appetite for Destruction is possibly the best rock and roll album in the past 25 years.

But perhaps a lot of people are frightened by real rock these days so they settle for shit like Dirty Projectors, and related limp stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:45 PM

The replacement members of GNR are all queer looking los angeles pretty boys who probably fuss with their hair for a good hour prior to the show, however, GNR still is a great headliner and when Paradise City comes tearing at you, y'all gonna recognize!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:55 PM

Worse than All Points West, and that was a bad festival!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:56 PM

^ Let us know when you get to high school. Some of us are pretty good at geometry & stuff. We can help you out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 1:56 PM

1:56 was meant for 1:45

So....what do you listen to? Who are you going to see next? Please enlighten us...

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 2:35 PM

"Please enlighten us..."

Since when did you become the spokesperson on here you jackass? I must have missed that election. Or maybe your dumb ass can't see in the comments that you are deeply in the minority here. In a surprising moment of clarity, most people on here recognize the utter garbage this festival is presenting

Here's one answer to your question though. Some of these bands at smaller better sounding places

Here's another answer. Anything other than most of the terrible shit this crap festival is serving.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 2:44 PM

I am in charge here. All of you must respect my opinion and give me 1/3rd of your hummus stash upon request.

Posted by The man with the mustache | February 7, 2013 2:48 PM

I don't even get the assholes defending Guns & Roses. This isn't the band that released Appetite for Destruction - this is some weird Fat Axl Rose vanity act better suited for Vegas then a music festival.

And who wants to stand next to assholes like these guys in the comments trying poorly to make fun of other bands on the bill using words like 'limp?" The festival just brought these assholes by booking this old fat guy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 2:52 PM

^ dude, trolls are bored today. no one actually wants to hear axl... but in the meantime,

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 3:07 PM

NYC just needs to stop trying to do festivals. This city is way too uptight/full of itself to pull it off.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 3:47 PM

^Or just do it right

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 3:51 PM

Tommy Stinson has been a member of Guns n Roses for longer than he was a member of the Replacements. Facts!

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 4:17 PM

It is a fact that that fact causes people to commit suicide.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 4:23 PM

Replacements reonion would have been sweet

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 4:51 PM

They should add Lauryn Hill to the lineup, to complete the douchebag trifecta (Kanye, Axl, Lauryn). An axis of douchebaggery.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 4:55 PM

Can't wait for this, take train into city drink some beers on train, walk over to the ferry, drink some beers on the ferry, get to the festival and eat some nachos, schedule my 1-2 naps for the day, then totally rage during GnR

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 5:57 PM

I bet the won't show up.

Posted by Anonymous | February 7, 2013 11:43 PM

I hope BV sends Dave Hill to this.

Posted by Anonymous | February 8, 2013 9:07 AM

I love his style.
