The Wedding Present @ Bowery Ballroom 2/9/2013
The Wedding Present

The Wedding Present were in town this weekend, braving the snow for shows at Maxwell's on Friday (2/8) and Bowery Ballroom on Saturday (2/9). Where Friday's show featured the band playing their 1992 Hit Parade singles in full, Bowery got the band's classic breakneck debut album, George Best, front-to-back. The 1987 album was from when the Weddoes were known for the manic jangle and nearly three decades on, frontman David Gedge can still strum like his arm's on fire.

In addition to George Best, TWP opened with a set of songs from throughout their career, including tracks from last year's Valentina. (Nice to see "Skin Diving" from 1996's underrated Saturnalia in the mix.) NYC shoegazers Heaven opened the show. More pictures from Bowery, including one of The Wedding Present's setlist, below...

@12:03,

"Getting Nowhere Fast" was added to the CD but wasn't on the original vinyl release.

@12:35,

Much better than the Maxwell's show, on account of the sound. The guitars had more oomph to them. I felt they were a little washed out at Maxwell's.

Well Mr Gedge I'm from about as far north as you, just a bit further east. And we won today 4-0 so we still look down on you from above. And this is a great song, and I love Take Fountain.
