Tim Dog

In a time when all eyes were west, transfixed on Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E and their crew NWA, a Bronx MC had the balls to scream what a legion of New York MCs wanted to: "Fuck Compton." That MC, Tim Dog, passed away at age 46 from a seizure brought on by his longtime battle with diabetes.

Tim Dog was primarily a solo artist and released a few albums besides the killer debut Penicillin on Wax. Later on, the Bronx MC even collaborated with Kool Keith as a member of Ultra and then again as a member of Project X. Those groups released one LP each.

RIP Tim Dog. Though you were nailed on a dating scam by Dateline NBC, you'll always be remembered for that scathing diss track and the accompanying album Penicillin on Wax but, more importantly, your contribution to the hip hop culture as a whole.

"Penicillin On Wax" is definitely a guilty pleasure. One of the best produced records of that era.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 11:33 AM

11:23- right, because no artists of merit have ever been womanizers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 11:55 AM

^sure, but how many plead guilty to grand larceny for conning women out of thousands of dollars? Dude was a scum bag. Fuck him.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 11:57 AM

Sadly, plenty of artists of merit have been womanizers, criminals, dirt bags, druggies, etc. I don't know whether this guy is an artist of merit, never even heard of him until today, but one thing is certain: the fact that he is black makes people A LOT more critical of any transgressions he may have had, while most readers here will gloss over the sins of their favorite white singer songwriters and indie heroes. Food for thought. Too bad this guy died so young. I checked out the Fuck Compton song, and while that isn't really my thing, it was pretty funny and putting myself back in that time frame, pretty accurate too.

^hahah, fuck you race baiting apologist. Tim Dog's victims where both black & white. Dude was a straight up criminal. Period.

^
You seem to have missed the point of 12:17's post.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 12:48 PM

^no I got it. Tim Dog didn't have "transgressions" he was pretty much a guy who had one hit in 1991 and was a career criminal from there on out. He is not comparable to some rock star who got busted with heroin, or had a DWI or whatever. He victimized women for a living. Repeatedly, over and over. Because he is black doesn't somehow make that not so.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 12:52 PM

^
No, really, you did miss the point.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 12:53 PM

^he had no point.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 12:56 PM

RIP Tim Dog.

Your bark was loud but your bite wasn't vicious.

And them rhymes you were kickin were quite bootylicious.

a) who gives a shit about an artist's personal life? A notable percentage of artists are shitty people.

b) He was on an internet dating site with the profile name "PerfectOne69". There's a limit to how much sympathy you can have for people that would fall for something like that.

c) In the grand scheme of things, nobody's protesting fucking Modest Mouse, and Isaac Brock is a rapist. Bitching about the personal lives of rappers is pretty much just lazy racism.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 2:35 PM

"personal life" hahaha..

He was a convicted felon, at that point it's not a "personal life".

"personal life"....hahahah. dude was a career criminal piece of shit. Deal with it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 2:44 PM

He's a convicted felon, but it was for nonviolent crime. But, yeah, let's get all worked up about it!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 3:22 PM

2:35, as I recall, that Modest Mouse guy was accused of rape but charges were never filed. I think facts like that do matter.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 3:31 PM

3:22 really is a dipshit apologist. It doesn't count because it is a non violent crime? Hilarious. What's everyone getting worked up about that Bernie Madoff guy for? It was a nonviolent crime!

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 3:46 PM

2:35 really is peace of work. First he blames the victim, and then dismisses the criminal activity of a rapper as his 'personal life' and that noticing these crimes is somehow racist, because white people commit crimes too. Brilliant stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 3:57 PM

Yes, Tim Dog's small time fraud is on the level of Bernie Madoff! Ha ha ha. What a loser.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 3:58 PM

^of course not you fucking idiot. It was just a means to demonstrate how ridiculous your dopey contention that nonviolent crime was somehow not worthy of getting "worked up" about was.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2013 4:10 PM

This guy's nonviolent crime is not the type to get worked up about. Is that clear enough?

Never separate the art from the artists. All artists must be morally good to be appreciated.

Tim Dog was a hummus eating man... He deserves all your respect.
RIP

Tim dog was NOT an artist by any means. One crappy song doesn't make him an artist. He is DEFINITELY scum of the earth. He didn't con one woman. That was his only conviction. He died before hundreds of his victims from all over the world were able to come forward. Now his family (that only came out during his trial) will continue to profit.
