YOB

Yob played their first of two NYC shows last night at a sold-out Saint Vitus (2/10), snagging support from Hull and Bezoar. The show is part of a BV/Invisible Oranges-sponsored short run of dates for the Portland crew, who play again at Saint Vitus tonight (2/11) with Batillus and Sea of Bones. Tickets are still available for tonight’s show (which is on the verge of sell out), highly recommended.

There are plenty of doom bands out there that understand the power of a great riff and an impressive vocal, but what separates Yob from the pack is something entirely different. The trio’s live show incorporates a swing — a groove that deviates from standard pacing and hits off of the traditional downbeats. They’re almost hard to headbang along to for the most part, but when they do lock in it just makes those parts seem more muscular and menacing.

More pictures and video from Sunday’s show are below.
