Since we last wrote about them, Scotland's CHVRCHES have signed with Glassnote in America, home to Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, Daughter and more. The group's Recover EP is out later this month and the band have just released the video to its uber-catchy title track. The clip pays homage to early-'80s sci fi and goes for model and in-camera effects over CGI. You can watch it below.
As mentioned, CHVRCHES will be in North America beginning next week for shows around the country surrounding their time at SXSW in Austin. They'll play two back-to-back, sold-out shows at Mercury Lounge on March 18, and will DJ at 285 Kent the following night (3/19). Tickets to that show are still available.

Changing the "U" to "V" makes it easy to goggle.
And they are a great, great band.

Seriously, how do you pronounce this?
Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2013 2:02 PM
1:05 must have missed the triangle and upside down cross phase, too. This is more in line with that annoying trend...

From Wikipedia: In Latin, a stemless variant shape of the upsilon was borrowed in early times as V—either directly from the Western Greek alphabet or from the Etruscan alphabet as an intermediary—to represent the same /u/ sound, as well as the consonantal /w/. Thus, 'num' — originally spelled 'NVM' — was pronounced /num/ and 'via' was pronounced /ˈwia/.

1:51 I've never heard this band but based off that video above I think "great, great" is a bit of a stretch.

I'm here to tell you that you're not crazy. That you're not insane. We both know you've been here a long time. Wondering. But that's over now. It has to be over. Especially now. Now, before it's even begun, before it can ever end. Now, and tomorrow. And the first step is today.

Wow how brave you are when you post anonymous comments? Great job angry 20 somethings really the future is looking bright with you leading in your incredibly entitled way! The truth is you are jealous and that is why you spout off like this. Only someone with a very large lack of self confidence needs to go on the internet and talk shit about someone they don't know and some song they barely listened to. So here the other side of that. Do you have any idea how difficult/impossible it is to make it in the music business these days? I doubt any of you cowards would have half the balls that she does to put herself and the music she makes out there, and actually have it paid attention to! As for advertising, guess what? That's the only way bands can make any money these days thanks to entitled little turds like you that say "records should be free". Guess what? Recording, Mixing, Mastering, printing and distribution are not free at all! But still the $10 which is less than an appetizer is just out of your entitled little price range isn't it?. This is good music by the way, it might confuse you to hear an actually song rather than just a bunch of video game noises to a drum machine but I suggest you give it another listen.

A V is simply a U that has not yet begun to slouch. Chvrches realize and take full advantage of this fact.
