D'Angelo at Brooklyn Bowl - 3/4/13

When reclusive smooth R&B superstar D'Angelo announced a last minute appearance at Brooklyn Bowl as part of The Soulquarians, you just knew that tickets would disappear in the blink of an eye. And they did, which made last night at Brooklyn Bowl (3/4), heaving with fans, all the more exciting. Joined by drummer Questlove of The Roots, instrumentation was simple, keeping to vocals, keys and drums for the duration of their set. D'Angelo performed songs from his forthcoming Questlove-produced LP, and made sure to visit favorites from his Voodoo and Brown Sugar LPs, in addition to rocking a cover of Prince's "New Position" (from Parade). We will more than likely see more of that at Carnegie Hall on Thursday (and maybe Wednesday at City Winery too?). More pictures, video and the setlist from the simple set at Brooklyn Bowl last night (just D'Angelo & Questlove for the duration) below...

Probably the worst photos I've seen on this page. Just the same closeup on D'Angelo's face over and over again. PSquared, get with it!

If resurrecting 90s RnB is the next "thing", I'm going to sit the next decade out.

"you just knew that tickets would disappear in the blink of an eye. And they did, which made last night at Brooklyn Bowl (3/4), heaving with fans, all the more exciting." WTF does that mean exactly?

A better analogy would have been Frohawk, whom Questlove actually does resemble in this photo.
