Eels @ Webster Hall, 3/1/2013
Eels

On the back of a strong 10th album, Wonderous Glorious, Eels slithered into NYC on Friday (3/1) for a show at Webster Hall. Dressed in matching tracksuits, frontman E and the rest of the band came out for a 20-plus song set that touched on his entire career, plus covers of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" and Small Faces' "Ichycoo Park." The crowd was warmed up with opening sets from Nicole Atkins and the strange torch songs of twisted clown act Puddles Pity Party. Puddles and Eels also performed an impromptu, post-encore finale as the crew disassembled the stage.

Anybody else buy a live tour CD, only to find that the glue in the package was stuck to the bottom of the CD?

Incredible show! Eels were an absolute perfectly oiled rock machine that night. Just a wall of guitar and tight drums in my face. Also, I can't believe people are giving Puddles a hard time. His voice was stunning, rich and powerful. And his take on Pierrot was well done and tongue in cheek pathetic. Also Nicole Atkins voice is gorgeous and she's a truly charming performer. The whole night was amazing.

Eels was really solid as always, but what is up with Webster's early set times?! I got in there at 8:50 and Eels was already into their third song!

4:34, have you ever been to Webster before. For their entire existence as "Webster Hall" Bowery Presents rock club, shows have always started early because they also have a late night "club".

Yes, I've been there many times and I know they run things early. But with 2 opening acts I didn't expect the headliner before 9pm.

I remember when rock shows were NEVER punctual...

"an impromptu, post-encore finale as the crew disassembled the stage"

NOTHING imprompt about this as The Eels have been doing this all tour. Please do some research or have some kernal of knowledge if you are going to write reviews.

6:18's right - they did the same thing Sunday at the 9:30 in DC. In any case, it was a great show.

I found Puddles and his companion pretty funny.
