Eleanor Friedberger will release her new solo album, Personal Record, on June 4. It's her second album for Merge. Like 2011's Last Summer, it's a little more poppy than her work with Fiery Furnaces. You can stream the first single, "Stare at the Sun," below.
Also below is a short video on Eleanor's trip to Jamaica where she took the cover shot for her album. The video goes gives a little insight about new album and has her wry wit on display.

Strong song.

She's great. Especially live - the songs take on more of a Nick Lowe vibe or even kind of like Television at times, as opposed to the new wave sound of the last record. Way more fun than her brother, that's for sure.
I'm pretty sure she recorded this album with the little guitar dude from Be Your Own Pet, who is a total shredder. Sounds like it, anyway, based on this song. Stoked for the full record.

We love EF for: promotional spots like the one above; and for the realization that if EF was a member at our gym, we would fantasize about talking to her (though we never would because of intimidation); because also, she MUST BE bookish and worldly (though probably difficult, to some degree). And above all, because she is the personification of everything good about, uh, "indie rock"

I like her and her last album, but I must disagree about her live show. It is nothing compared to a Fiery Furnaces show.

The Fiery Furnaces should get back together. I never thought I would want to see her brother with his jerk smirk so bad.
