Empress of / Brazos @ Pianos, 3/5/2013
Empress Of
Brazos

Why don't we have more early shows in NYC? It's fun to see a couple bands and still have your night ahead of you. That was our thought process with the Empress Of / Brazos show that BrooklynVegan presented last night (3/5) with fellow music blog Gorilla Vs. Bear at Ludlow St. standby Pianos. We got a sneak peak -- in live form -- at Empress Of's forthcoming Systems EP, which will be out via Terrible next month. We also got an early listen to songs from Brazos' upcoming Dead Oceans debut, Saltwater, with their opening set. (The two bands share a member, too.) Both Empress of and Brazos will be in Austin next for SXSW, and the former will grace our Saturday (3/16) day party at the old Emo's space.

More pics from last night's Pianos show are below.

The dudes in Brazos are great players - why do they have to sound like the Dave Matthews Band?

Uh... Brazos don't sound like Dave Mathews.
