Foxygen's Jonathan Rado and Sam France @ SXSW 2013
SXSW 2013 photos by Kevin Figueroa

Sounds like Foxygen need a rest. The band just canceled their European dates set for May and June, writing on their Facebook this morning:

We have some unfortunate news. We have to cancel our upcoming EU dates for May and June and upcoming EU festival dates. We'd like apologize to all our European fans and supporters. We know this causes frustration and headaches for ticket buyers and promoters alike. We assure you this is ultimately for the creative health of the band. We will back in EU very soon and promise to make this up to all of you. Please understand. Thank you again, all of you. Your time, attention and support mean the world to us. Love, Foxygen.
The band have been nonstop touring since their release of their acclaimed new album, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. Their tour with Unknown Mortal Orchestra brought them to SXSW where they had a bunch of shows scheduled. That's where an exhausted Sam France lashed out at a fan during a Foxygen performance on the Thursday (3/15) of that week, and then ended up, as mentioned, canceling their appearance at our Saturday day party:

Foxygen

It was a big bummer as Foxygen were one of the bands we were most looking forward to. They canceled our show and their other Saturday performance too.

The band have some North America dates scheduled still including two sold-out NYC shows in May that appear to be still on and the're playing the Pitchfork Festival.

A couple more shots from SXSW and all tour dates are listed below. Rest up guys.

"Lashed out at a fan" and you link to that sensational pitchfork bullshit article. this all makes me sick.

ouch, bad form on the response to the crowd heckling.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 12:23 PM

If they can't handle a little hard work, how are they ever going to make it through Shark Week?

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 12:24 PM

I'm not worried. They've got staying power. You'll see.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 12:25 PM

Yeah, this is total BS, try WORKING SXSW. Not just playing a few shows everyday, WORKING like 20 a DAY.

Being a Musician may be demanding as far as trvel/tour... but it still getting paid for touring the world, which most of us have to work and pay for.

F BOTH THESE DUDES.

The cancellation is actually due to intense Proactiv treatment.

I think Dire Straits pointed out long ago that being a musician is NOT REALLY WORK.

Hey ladies nice shirts!

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 12:30 PM

I wonder if Rockin Daddy is upset at this?

Ha, yeah you're right, he's upset at the world. No doubt he's so angry about this too. What was I thinking?

Dear Foxygen

I like Velvet Underground & Bob Dylan too..

These fellows clearly need more energy. And as frequent readers of this blog will know, the solution lies with the Chickpea.

Attn Rock Bands:
Cocaine - to be used for staying awake.
Heroin - to be used for going to bed.
Marijuana - to be used for studio sessions.

why does that man look like a woman

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 1:21 PM

This is the result of parents not being able to slap their kids around anymore without getting the cops called on them.

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 1:26 PM

Thank God! These guys are crap. I saw them at CMJ and they were quite possibly the most annoying live band I've ever seen. The lead singer needs a beat down.

Posted by Toncho | March 28, 2013 1:44 PM

Poor guy, sure he had a good reason

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 1:47 PM

No, it's drug related. It's that simple

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 1:53 PM

thanks for sparing the UK, your music is terrible

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 2:10 PM

Just when I think this site is losing relevance a post comes along like this that provides for truly enjoyable comments. Thank you commenters: for having good taste, common sense and a deliciously smug sense of humour.

This band fucking sucks. Anyone that says otherwise is trying way, way too hard.

Even that chick from Best Coast is laughing at them (look, upper left, Bushmills in hand)

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 3:55 PM

FUCK Best Coast

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 4:05 PM

3:41 HERE! HERE!

Posted by Anonymous | March 28, 2013 6:00 PM

Much love to the these guys and the rest of the band

Posted by Mark | March 31, 2013 4:49 AM

these comments make me ill . This band is grinding and has to endure the hype that surrounds them . Which is fully warranted because this is the best new band out there that I know of period . WHy the hate ? Jealousy perhaps .. ?? Either way I hope they can keep it together to keep writing because they have some serious chemistry . ( probably much of their problem ) ...Get some rest boys and piss off to all the haters ...whose your band ?? Never heard of them cause you probably suck ....

Hahaha @ proactiv comment. True. What a hormonal little bitch.

i would like to wipe my ass with the brim of that stupid fucking hat. their 12.5 minutes are now officially OVER

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2013 2:07 AM

Most of the haters on here probably live in Brooklyn and are trust funding wannabe hipsters who think they're unique and artistic because they know how to talk about what they saw posted on Brooklyn Vegan.com

Go listen to more Phoenix and continue getting ripped off at american apparel.

Foxygen IS drugs because it's authentic. It's the centerfold of their music. There are side effects. Leave them alone. They are like the new grateful dead. dont fuck with the west coast

i saw foxygen open for Unknown Mortal Orchestra in Salt Lake City after SXSW and they were horrible.they kept bitching about the monitors and screwing around with their equipment.the keyboard hag kept throwing tantrums and had to be coddled, eventually her keyboard was so loud it was all you could hear. All they did was whine. Then UMO took the stage and it sounded amazing. Foxygen needs to inhale less Roxygen and get their shit together

Posted by cobrapoison | May 1, 2013 2:08 PM

They are an amazing studio band. I saw them live and it was pretty terrible. They need to figure out how to produce the same sound live as they do in the studio. It seemed they were trying to be punk rock at their live show which doesn't really fit the type of music they are putting out. Seemed like they needed a good sound engineer on the road with them.
