Ian McCulloch releasing new solo album ++ orchestral renditions of Bunnymen songs (streams)

While we’re posting about bands that appeared on the Pretty in Pink soundtrack, Echo & the Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch will release a new solo album, Holy Ghosts, next week (3/19). Actually, it’s two records in one. The first is a live recording of McCulloch doing orchestral versions of Bunnymen and solo material. Recorded at London’s Union Chapel in May 2012, it features Mac on acoustic guitar, his old Liverpool mate Ian Broudie on electric guitar and a four-piece string section. You can stream its version of “Bring on the Dancing Horses” (originally on Pretty in Pink) below.

That live concert is combined with McCulloch’s actual new solo album, Pro Patria Mori, that finds him in instropective, Leonard Cohen mode. You can stream the title track from that below.
