Justin Timberlake

It was probably the most-anticipated episode of Saturday Night Live of the season, with Justin Timberlake on double duty as host and musical guest. The writers love JT and they show usually pulls out all the stops for him. Last night (3/9) was no different. Jay-Z showed up for "Suit and Tie," giving us a preview of what to expect this summer (like at Yankee Stadium on 7/19). He also performed "Mirrors."

Jay-Z was only one of what was one of the most guest-star-filled episodes ever. This was JT's fifth time hosting which put him in the Five Timers Club, where Paul Simon, Tom Hanks, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen, and Chevy Chase were to greet him. (Dan Ackroyd tended bar and Martin Short was there too.) Ackroyd and Martin reprised their wild-and-crazy Festrunk Brothers characters for a dating gameshow sketch that also featured JT and Andy Samberg as the "Dick in a Box" roles. Timberlake also put back on the "bring it on to ____ville" costume, this time as a block of tofu for a vegan restaurant.

The next new SNL is April 6 with Melissa McCarthy hosting and Phoenix as musical guests. Clips from last night's SNL are below.

Dan Ackroyd rules. That is all.

Did Timberlake's pr agent write that pablum?

When will Phoenix's SNL weekend show be announced???

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 12:09 PM

jay z and his trophy wife can go to hell...

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 12:52 PM

Jay Z's verse is horrible, and he knows it - wouldn't even look at the audience. Timberlake is tolerable but this whole George Clooney Tuxedo thing is off-putting. I think I like him better as an actor than musician.

Does anyone like suit&tie? I mean honestly, anyone?

"Dan Ackroyd rules. That is all."

Yeah maybe 30 years ago. Now he is just fat and dated. That Festrunk Brothers thing last night was painfully unfunny as was the rest of the recycled garbage. Even the Stefan part of Weekend Update, which is usually hilarious, was off the mark.

^Totally disagree. Last night's episode was funny as hell.

How to tell when this show is sucking: there is someone besides Bill Hader onscreen

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 1:57 PM

Morrissey canceled his San Francisco show last night because of yet another physical breakdown. poor guy.

Your taste is so far in the toilet it's incredible. Please list some other things you think are funny as hell. Should be enlightening.

1:19/3:26 - Just because I disagree with you Mr. Anonymous Posting Comic Expert, I now have to list other things I find humorous? I think not. In fact, since you're apparently the comic know it all, why don't you enlighten the world with your genius and tell us all what we should think is funny.

Credited as funny: 2 broke girls, 2.5 men, mike & molly, suburgatory, whitney, cleveland show, hot in cleveland, betty white off rockers

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 4:02 PM

Actually 3:26/3:41 it is you who is in the minority here which is why I asked about other things you think are funny. Most people correctly know SNL is garbage these days and not funny at all including last night's episode. For example, you can do a search on here if you need to for any SNL posts and see what the majority says. Therefore it is pretty amusing to find the few people who think differently and to see what other crummy shit they like. If it is any of the ones listed in 4:02 then It all makes sense. All crap.

Also this line of yours " tell us all what we should think is funny". I must have missed the BV elections that were held naming you spokesman for the site.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 4:16 PM

4:16: so SNL is garbage but you watch it every week to remind people on BV how awful it is? Real smart

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 4:36 PM

"Most people correctly know SNL is garbage these days" ...because nothing says 'correct about something' like general consensus, just ask Psy.

4:16 You're as dumb as you are anonymous.

people complaining about SNL not being funny since whatever season has been going on since the original cast left in 1980. Any yes, last nights show was funny

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 4:50 PM

Any yes, last nights show was completely not funny.
Trying to watch any of it online was a waste of time.
Guess if you like dick in box "joke" and Timberlake its for you.

guys i liked it

Posted by muffy | March 10, 2013 5:16 PM

Ackroyd and Martin did THEIR OWN CHARACTERS worse than a drunk unfunny guy at a party imitating them.

I speak for everyone when I say it was funny. End of story

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 5:47 PM

The intro with JT as Elton John was pretty funny. Everything else was just ok, but better than most recent SNL's.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 6:32 PM

One fact is true. People who think SNL is still funny, and that includes last night's shitfest, are the most unoriginal, unintelligent, boring people you will ever meet. Go on, do the litmus test and ask the people you know around you what they think. You'll see. It's also a great barometer of seeing who the loser in the crowd is.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 7:14 PM

^ Yes, as opposed to the people who post anonymously on BV and never have anything to say other than "x sucks."

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 7:39 PM

At long last, Dan Ackroyd is now officially fatter than John Belushi.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 7:55 PM

I prefer y. But x made some strong stuff early on.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 9:18 PM

jay z's verses have always been horrible. wack MC, shitty flow and so overrated it isn't funny.

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2013 9:19 PM

Dan Aykroyd believes in aliens.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 1:44 AM

So how does Brooklyn VEGAN not mention the "Veganville" sketch with JT as a singin' n dancin' block of Tofu?

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 2:09 AM

@2:09,

they did.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 2:17 AM

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 3:08 AM

does ANYONE actually believe jay z is talented? i mean, was everyone who likes him born after 1990?

wanna hear some real hip hop? go back to school.

jay z is beyond overrated.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 9:36 AM

Jay-Z is a self-promoting wannabe-rich white man, the Brooklyn Nets suck dick, and Barclays Center is a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars.

Bloomberg cared/cares more about building that hunk of rust-roofed shit than he cares about keeping firehouses and libraries open, so fuck him too while I'm at it.

SNL is just one long imitation skit fest now - pull the plug already. Lorne Michaels is complacent and his show reflects that. He figures SNL will never be cancelled so why make it better? Book big-name hosts and bands and the show will be ok with the incredibly mediocre cast.

Seriously, name me ONE original character skit on that show as memorable as Chris Farley's Man With A Van Down By The River.
Name me one SNL cast member post-Farley or Hartmann as good as either guy, I sure can't.

Chris Farley or Phil Hartmann (RIP) > SNL since 1998.

"Name me one SNL cast member post-Farley or Hartmann as good as either guy, I sure can't."

JUST NAME ME ONNNNE

"Chris Farley or Phil Hartmann (RIP) > SNL since 1998."

OOOOOOO WEEEE

Bill Hader is a pretty kickass cast member. Not saying he's better than Farley or Hartman, but he's the real deal.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 11:37 AM

LOLz at dudes making fun of Jay-Z's accomplishments on a message board.

While you were posting that, he made a million dollars.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 11:52 AM

^ and your point is? he still sucks, rich or not...

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 11:53 AM

when will SNL just go away

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 12:01 PM

The point is, regardless of what you think of him, he's doing just fine.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 12:01 PM

^ that's a terrible argument. Philip Morris is a really successful company, that doesn't mean they don't sell poison that kills people and in the amount of time it took me to write this post made a gazillion dollars.

Who cares how successful he is? Justin Bieber is doing great, too.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 12:08 PM

"Maine Justice" is the best sketch they've done this season.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 12:23 PM

pt barnum's adage about a sucker being born every minute applies quite nicely to modern day jay z, beyonce worship...

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 12:32 PM

""Maine Justice" is the best sketch they've done this season."

Yeah that sketch was about as funny as getting a few teeth pulled

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 12:47 PM

Jay-Zu = D!!!!!! D, posting on an SNL/JT thread? yikes.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 1:56 PM

Wow. How miserable do you have to be to shit on Dan Ackroyd?

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2013 2:37 PM

Jay-Z, Beyonce and Timberlake don't quite understand the act that's being crafted for them by their media masters - you can see it in their faces, they're all so far down the path with the people who control their images and 'art' they know that there is only one direction to go now and they will have no real say in it.

It's good for them, though, to have pathetic money worshipping lackeys like 11:52 who will help them feel like they have some integrity left intact and will keep pushing the idea that big payoffs should equal big respect.
