Kavinsky & Dave 1

French producer Kavinsky stopped in NYC on Friday (3/8) for a record release party at Webster Hall for his new album, OutRun. Looking as sleek and '80s in in his shades as his music sounds, Kavinsky DJed the party with some help from Chromeo's Dave 1, and in addition to celebrating his own album, he repped fellow Frenchmen Daft Punk in his set as well. If you went, how was it?

Start saving your money now dude, in 2 years people won't even know who you are. I don't want to see your shitty kickstarter then. Tell your buddy Skrillex too.

This guy's been around since 2006 and is way better than Skrillex.

Skrillex even if he fell into obscurity will be set for a long time. You need to remeber that he was a producer first before all his dubstep days and is redicilously loaded from the dubstep

Oh shit! Big Dane is back in the mix, ya heard?? Straight up killin' it, yo!

If you listen to Kavinsky you go to Webster Hall more often than you claim.

Battle of the Pacha regulars vs. the Webster Hall regulars!

What is it with these french dj's and chain smoking??

Skrillex is terrible but is absolutely loaded now. You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

I want to punch Dave 1 in his pompous hipster face

I went. I love Kavinsky's music, and am totally down with French House music in general, but tend to spend more time at other EDM events.

Both Dave 1 and Kavinsky were atrocious DJ's though. Dave 1 trainwrecked at least 3 transitions. Kavinsky failed to play any of his "hits", missing the opportunity to start his set with the amazing new Intro from his latest album, and played an 7 year old "Killing in the Name Of" remix by SebastiAn. A song that was played out over 5 years ago. Dude barely spent an hour behind the decks. Hyped the crowd up with Original Don, everyone starts going NUTS -- then he pulls the drop for the INTRO to a super mellow song. That is NOT how you DJ, man.

All in all, super disappointing. It was like both DJ's were completely out of touch with the crowd in front of them. By the end of Kavinsky's set, over half the place was already gone, which is unheard of for 1:45AM at Webster.

Kavinsky definitely looks to be a much better producer than a DJ. but you'd think someone in the game for that long would learn how to DJ?!?! pretty sad that he's not better

Dance floor was dead after Kavinsky left. Kavinsky was fun but he needs to learn to read the crowd a bit better. It wouldn't hurt to showcase some showmanship. Why create a character for yourself, if you won't appear in character while you spin your set?
