Wavves at VICELAND at SXSW 2013 (via VICE)
If you thought King of the Beach had pop punk tendencies, on these new songs it's pretty much full blown 1995-1997 era skate punk. Your feelings on how that genre lives up in 2013 may alter your opinion on the new record, but Wavves do it well.I wrote the above after seeing Wavves at the Jansport Bonfire Sessions @ VICELAND on Tuesday (3/12) during SXSW. That was before I actually got to hear the new album (besides the two singles), and now that I finally have heard the whole thing, I'm happy to say that it lives up. You can hear it too, by heading over to NPR, where it's streaming in full.
Wavves are on tour now with FIDLAR and Cheatahs, and that tour comes to NYC in April for tiny shows at Glasslands (4/11) and Shea Stadium (4/12), which are way sold out. Videos for "Demon to Lean On" and "Sail to the Sun" below...
