Prince on 'Jimmy Fallon'
Prince on Fallon

The Purple One (aka Prince) blessed NYC and the world at large with a performance on Friday (3/1) on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, performing the previously discussed new track "Screwdriver" as well as his 1979 track "Bambi". Check out video of both below. Both songs are available for purchase via Prince directly.

As mentioned, Prince will be paid tribute by names like The Roots, Elvis Costello and more over two sold-out nights in NYC, one officially at Carnegie Hall on March 7 and one "rehearsal" at City Winery on March 6th.

D'Angelo, who will perform the Carnegie Hall tribute, also plays Brooklyn Bowl tonight with Questlove (3/4, sold out).

Will Prince make an appearance at any of these shows? Prince.org at least confirms Prince will be in attendance at Carnegie.

Head below for video of Prince Rogers Nelson ripping through two tracks.

Apparently Prince borrowed the guitar for the 'Bambi' performance from Kirk from the Roots, and then proceeded to throw it in the air and break it at the end of the song. He offered no apology and refused to sign the guitar for Kirk. Cementing Prince's status as a legendary asshole

Lenny Kravitz rules!!!

oh wait...

"He apologized, shook my hand & said he’d take care of it. Even after he did that I STILL asked him to sign it (he says he hasn’t signed anything since the 70’s) so I was guilty for being blinded by my love for the music that has passed through him” -Kirk Douglas FB post

not nearly as bad as 12:56 makes it sound

Borrowing someone's guitar and then throwing it into the air and breaking it is still an asshole move

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:12 PM

@1:02, Prince is legendary. A legendary performer as well as a legendary asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:16 PM

^Except for the people he deems worthy of his presence. Then he is a wonderful loving guy. In other words an asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:17 PM

Fuck your guitar, ni--a, fuck your guitar! Game, blouses.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:18 PM

"Even after he did that I STILL asked him to sign it (he says he hasn’t signed anything since the 70’s)"

Which is an absolute fucking lie. He has signed plenty of stuff since then.

My first thought was what guitar was that? Makes sense that it was not his.

Vintage Epiphone or reissue?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:49 PM

Forget about the guitar, let's focus on the real problem at hand: how does Fallon have a job? He's awful.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 1:51 PM

Who are the girls in his band? They couldn't have been chosen for talent alone...

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:02 PM

"Game - Blouses!" LOL!!!

That was a dick move by Prince.
The least he could have done was sign it for Kirk, although Kirk seems cool with it.

I thought he was more of a prick to just walk-off and not even wait for Jimmy to thank him. Jimmy seems cool with it also.

Overall, like the new song and new band.

"BLOUSE'S"!!!!

Posted by spikenyc | March 4, 2013 2:02 PM

That new song is awful...revisiting bambi is pretty sweet though. His new band sucks...drummer probably played metalcore at one point in her life.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:04 PM

New band? Isn't that the same touring band he's had the past few years?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:05 PM

I like girls who drum muscularly

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:20 PM

Kirk is psyched that Prince borrowed, played, and threw his guitar. So the only question is "Did his move look cool?" Is there any debate on that point?

Prince doesn't sign stuff because he wants to control his image and his merchandising. Doesn't do interviews because he doesn't want to be misquoted or represented.

Makes and plays tons of amazing music, amazingly.

Those are the facts. You can disagree, but you'll be wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:26 PM

yeah prince is the man. sorry, haters.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:40 PM

For the record... Prince also makes an amazing hummus platter.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:57 PM

Eh 2:26, his music is amazing. That is one fact that is true. A lot of those other "facts" you listed are incorrect buddy.

Prince has signed plenty of stuff over the years. I have a number of things he has signed and so do lots of others. He also does interviews. They are sporadic but he does them. The reporter is not allowed to record him though or take notes during the interview.

2:05, no this is a brand new band he put together in the last few months.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 2:58 PM

Hummus Man, keep trolling and commenting, I laugh every time.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 3:00 PM

Hummus man does not "troll" (nor does he even know what "trolling" means).
He simply posts hummus facts and an occasional recipe for the betterment of all mankind.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 3:03 PM

New band. Dumb new song. They play it well at least. I'm a huge fan but he hasn't done anything really new in many, many years.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 3:38 PM

I like this stuff simply because I love his guitar playing and don't get to see him do guitar-based rock often enough.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 3:40 PM

2:26 you got SERRRRRVVED by 2:58!! You should have said Prince "rarely, if ever signs stuff" and "rarely does interviews, and on unconventional terms." But you didn't! You said that other stuff! And 2:58 actually HAS autographs!

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 3:53 PM

118pm 4ever

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 4:08 PM

if he gives interviews but they cannot be recorded and the reporter can't take notes, isn't there more of a chance he will be misquoted or misrepresented?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 4:18 PM

I wish he played Batdance instead

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 4:34 PM

eye bet u would luv 2 b the owner of a guitar played & broken by Prince

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 4:58 PM

Why does anybody care? This guy hasn't has a good song since "Dancing on the Ceiling"

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 5:06 PM

I'd let Prince break any of my guitars. It's fucking Prince.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 5:28 PM

He signed my copy of Judge's "Chung King Can Suck It" LP (not a bootleg, either). Dude was totally chill.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 5:42 PM

it was his fave guitar, according to his wiki page...an epiphone crestwood

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 6:37 PM

Anyone who gives a shit I was working the counter @ a cleaners in the 80's across from the venue he was playing. One of his entourage brought in a soiled white jacket that needed cleaning. Low and behold we ruined the jacket (it turned pink) but evidently he was thrilled and left the cleaners a huge tip.

I watched this thinking it was Amanda Palmer's TED talk. It gave me much to think about.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2013 10:38 PM

Apparently the Jehovah's witness makes a mean pancake too according to Charlie Murphy.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2013 2:32 AM

Jehovah's Witness' hummus sucks, though. Price FTW.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2013 8:45 AM

Actually, spelling FTW.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2013 8:46 AM

Yes. Makes total sense. Prince doesn't have his own guitar(s) to use. Decided instead to wing it on national TV with someone else's and hope it sounds alright. Oh and it matched his outfit perfectly.

Methinks we have been played in an effort to create, dare I say, "Controversy"?

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2013 1:12 PM

Although I am a massive Prince fan I feel obliged to point out girl with skrillex hair was controlling his pedalboard.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2013 11:34 PM

When asked why he threw the guitar in the air and didn't catch it back, Prince said "fuck you, that's why..."

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2013 1:20 PM

@11:34

He clearly has his own pedals in front of him

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2013 3:28 PM

Prince is a little old man who is still trying to prove

Just for the record, while Priced played at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Tom Petty (While My Guitar Gently Weeps) in 2004, he ended the song by throwing his Telecaster in the air...and it never came back down!
So clearly the Epiphone was at fault.

Posted by James Jones | March 9, 2013 3:46 PM

Why would you have him sign your Chung king can sick it album? Are you stupid or a moron?

Posted by Anonymous | March 9, 2013 9:55 PM

Been a Prince fan since he was playing small clubs, before real concerts. I'm a fan of classic Prince music, the last concert of his I went to was in Oakland Ca. Paid $80 a tkt for horrible seats. I'm poor so that was a lot of $ for my daughter and I to see him. And we were both beyond disappointed in the show and the fact there was nada for fan stuff. Posters etc. even the only t-shirt we bought was sad. He will always have his own style, that's great. I don't like any of his new music since the late 1990's. maybe I'm boring, whatever. I will listen to his old music forever, but his new stuff is for the new generations to understand and enjoy. I'm just sad because my daughter and I saved for that concert and could hardly wait to go see him live. And it was sad. No dancing no cool clothes no dancers or performing at all. No stage show what so ever ! So sorry if we expected to see a concert like you see on TV and clips from concerts! He wasent dressed up in anything neither was the band, stage or anything . No lights no nada. The only thing we can say is, ya we saw him in concert live. Rave about it, no. So again, love the old, not the new.
