WITH GREAT SADNESS WE HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THATAlvin, sadly, is none other than Alvin Lee of Ten Years After. The shredder passed with quite the legacy though, having played Woodstock with his band and launching a fruitful solo/session career in the early seventies playing with names like Bo Diddley, George Harrison, Steve Winwood, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood, Jerry Lee Lewis, Peter Frampton and more. Though his guitar skills were nothing short of killer, Ten Years After will probably be best remembered for their hit "I'd love to change to world," which you can stream below.
ALVIN UNEXPECTEDLY PASSED AWAY EARLY THIS MORNING
AFTER UNFORSEEN COMPLICATIONS FOLLOWING A ROUTINE SURGICAL PROCEDURE.WE HAVE LOST A WONDERFUL MUCH LOVED FATHER AND COMPANION,
THE WORLD HAS LOST A TRULY GREAT AND GIFTED MUSICIAN.JASMIN, EVI AND SUZANNE
RIP Alvin, though you are gone, you cannot be forgotten.

What a major bummer. Got to see Alvin Lee (and Ten Years Later) several times in the '80s at Calderone Concert Hall and another time for a hungerthon in the lobby of the United Nations building. An original shredder who was devoted to his fans and always delivered the goods. Rock and Roll Music to the World is an epic lp and belongs in everyone's library. RIP Alvin!

Cricklewood Green one of the great overlooked LPs of the 60s-70s era (released in 1970). Sad news, RIP man.

3:54 You gonna become an old geezer yourself one day, if you're lucky that is... And your heroes would die on you too, you know. Even dirty projectors would!
Alvin is part of music's collective memory, regardless of how old you are. Just watch him in Woodstock and show your respect.

Always stayed true to himself. Consummate musician, entertainer-Ten Years After made some fine albums in the late 60's.
They are still going, with the other 3 original members preserving the music.

I'm another who saw Ten Years after (opening) and Jeff Beck group @ the Electric Factory in Philly. A great night of incredible music, and unearthly guitar sounds. Between Alvin and his group, Beck, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, etc., I DID leave the building with a shortlived loathing for all 20-something English guys; there must've been about 500 girls lined up outside after the show, waiting. Couldn't blame 'em.......
