The Thermals in Austin in 2011 (more by Tim Griffin)
The Thermals

The Thermals are having a solid year so far with the vinyl reissues of their Sub Pop albums (out now), and signing to Saddle Creek for their new album, Desperate Ground, which from the sounds of its first single, "Born to Kill," is shaping up to be a good one. They've also got an expanding tour, which already includes a BrooklynVegan-presented show at 285 Kent on Thursday (3/7) with Hilly Eye and Habibi and another NYC-area date on Saturday (3/9) at Maxwell's with TEEN.

We're happy to announce that they'll stick around NYC for a third show in the area, which happens on Monday (3/11) at Ace Hotel as part of the Bowery Presents/Martin Guitar '5 at 5' series. If you're unfamiliar, the series will have the band doing a free 5-song set at 5 PM in the Ace Hotel lobby. The flyer for that show is below. The Thermals' tour also hits Austin for SXSW, where they will play a BrooklynVegan day party on the Friday (3/15).

Updated Thermals dates are listed, along with the show flyer and a stream of "Born to Kill," below...

The Thermals? Do people outside of Portland actually care?

it's time they realize it's over. cover up the tats and get a real job.

Yeah, now that they're selling out both of their NYC area shows, they should really pack it in. Clearly there's no interest.

This fucking site's commenters boggle the mind sometimes...

You are what boggles the mind Mr.Idiot 1:22. Thinking that selling out small places like 285 Kent and Maxwells is some great illustration of lots of people caring about this band.

hey 1:44 dumbs, when you can get 500+ people in any city of any capacity to care about you, then you can talk shit. until then - shut the fuck up

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2013 2:17 PM

Hey 2:17 moron, actually that is not really a big deal in a city of 8 million people. Maybe in a city of 700 people that would be a big deal. Plus neither 285 Kent or Maxwells has a capacity of 500+. More like 200-300 if that. Please continue to look stupid crowing about The Thermals selling out a tiny venue. I'm sure MSG is next up.

I agree with 1:04.

Ace Hotel at 5pm in lobby. Yeah, that's about as far as I've gotten at the Ace Hotel during that hour.

A city of 700 people, 2:31?

How about who gives a shit if anyone "actually cares"? I'm going because I like the band and want to see some live music tonight, so I am glad they are playing. You pretentious fucking hipsters, think it's so cool to not care about anything outside of beards, falafel, and Grizzly Bear.
