the singer was also a male model...
The Drowners

NYC band Drowners (formerkly known as The Drowners), who we were recently talking about, have signed to Frenchkiss Records...

"In April, they signed to NY label Frenchkiss. "We liked that Frenchkiss seemed to understand the semantics of being in a band." They are currently finishing up writing their debut album to be released this fall. Both the label and the band are thrilled for this amazing new partnership. Frenchkiss Records head, Syd Butler exclaims, "We believe this band is ready to take over the world... "
Right now the band, who played Brooklyn Bowl the other day, have just two upcoming dates, both with the Vaccines (who they've played with before).

UPDATE: The Drowners are playing Pianos on May 8th.

Those dates are listed along with a video below...

4:10 - I agree. Days of fabricated boy-band groups such as Strokes are done and dusted.

Go tour, tour, tour, then tour some more. Good music will be found, not hyped about because the singer was a male model!?!

Ridiculously ridiculous.

Is that Ted Mosby in the back?

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 5:08 PM

I would certainly hope that a company that is in the business of releasing music would understand "being in a band." I'm not sure what semantics has to do with any of that though.

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 5:16 PM

definitely NOT semantic

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 5:17 PM

can bands get signed without ever touring? Does hard work and earning it exist anymore?

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 5:31 PM

@5:08 i think so! hahaha

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 6:53 PM

not so bad. With the right timing and connections I foresee these guys on SNL.

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 10:21 PM

Harrumph...The semantics of being in a band are completely different from the semantics of playing in a band, writing in a band, recording in a band, performing in a band, working in a band, and dying in a band. if you cannot understand this simple matter, then you are obviously and utterly unqualified to have a record label.

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 11:02 PM

^^yes

Posted by Anonymous | April 25, 2013 11:31 PM

Is this shit some Onion joke?

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2013 1:33 AM

i've never heard these guys but the whole 'bands should tour before they get signed' argument is pretty antiquated. i'd prefer a band sit and write good songs and perfect their sound rather than play for 10 people in cleveland. anyway, if you're a nyc band you don't need to do shitty tours for empty venues. all music industry is here basically.

11:02, I think the word you're looking for is "dynamics" not "semantics."

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2013 10:37 AM

2:20- discovered that when you moved here six months ago, huh?

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2013 2:06 PM

"Some antics? I'm always up for some antics!" - Mel Gibson, Lethal Weapon sequel I forget what number

And yes, Zoolander - the word you're looking for is "dynamics."

HOW CAN WE BE EXPECTED TO TEACH CHILDREN TO LEARN HOW TO READ IF THEY CAN'T EVEN FIT INSIDE THE BUILDING?!

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2013 4:51 PM

Not a good press photo.

Posted by Anonymous | April 26, 2013 9:20 PM

hey, 10:37, I know exactly what word I was looking for, and I found it in the quote from the band up there in the article. If you are going to comment about a comment, it helps to have a grasp of the context in which the comment was posted. Unless, of course, you believe that the world revolves around you, and that context is subject to that, regardless of whatever meaning anyone else intended with their words. So suck on that.

Posted by 11:02 redux | April 27, 2013 1:14 AM

Wow. I think I've finally figured out the semantics of what it's like to want to punch every dude in this band.

If you buy this, kill yourself.

Posted by Anonymous | April 27, 2013 11:25 AM

wow, I couldn't of said that better

Amen to you bro ! ~

Keep spreading it :)
