Jay-Z

Jay-Z, who is allegedly selling his "minuscule stake in the Brooklyn Nets" and moved Roc Nation to Universal, just recorded the track "Open Letter" with producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. FADER writes:

On the track, debuted this morning on New York's Hot 97 and Jay's Life + Times, Jay expresses disgust at the outsized interest in his recent Cuba anniversary trip, which was criticized by by three Republican members of Congress and approved by the U.S. Treasury Department. "Open Letter" also acknowledges Gwyneth Paltrow's favorite rapper Chief Keef, quotes Bob Dylan's 1975 track "Idiot Wind" and brushes off reports that Jay is looking to sell his small stake in the Brooklyn Nets and become an NBA agent. Would have brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free/ Except I made millions off you fuckin dweebs/ I still own the building. I'm still keeping my seat, he says. By "seat," he may mean the exclusive $5550,000 per year suite which he's used for free since the opening of the Barclays Center.
Jay is also going on a tour with Justin Timberlake which hits NYC on July 19 and 20 at Yankee Stadium (tickets), and just announced the lineup for his Made In America festival, which goes down from August 31 to September 1 at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philly with Beyonce, Queens of The Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Black Hippy (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, & Jay Rock), Miguel, Solange, Phoenix, A$AP Rocky and many more

You can stream "Open Letter" and read the lyrics below...

Jay-Z - "Open Letter"

Lyrics:

Ladies and gentlemen
Goddamnit
Let this shit knock

I done turned Havana to Atlanta
Guayabera shirts and bandanas
Every time you think they got me I switch the planna
Bulletproof this, radio scanners
Ballin' 'til they ban us
You gettin' too much bread, they tryna' jam you
Boy from the hood but got White House clearance
Sorry y'all, I don't agree with y'all appearance
Politicians never did shit for me
Except lie to me, distort history
Wanna give me jail time and a fine
Fine, let me commit a real crime
I might buy a kilo for Chief Keef
Out of spite, I just might flood these streets
Hear the freedom in my speech
Got an onion from Universal, read it and weep
Would've brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free
Except I made millions off it, you fuckin' dweeb
I still own the building, I'm still keeping my seat
Y'all buy that bullshit, you'd better keep your receipt
Obama said chill, you gonna get me impeached
But you don't need this shit anyway
Chill with me on the beach

Y'all gon' learn today

Ya'll almost want to start a revolution
You know whenever I'm threatened, I start shooting, bark
Catch a body, head to Houston
I'm in Cuba, I love Cubans
This communist talk is so confusing
When it's from China, the very mic that I'm using
Idiot wind, the Bob Dylan of rap music
You're an idiot baby, you should become a student
Oh, you gonna learn today
Where the fuck have you been
The world's under new management
The new role model, fuck this Zoolander shit

Who are the dweebs he is referring to? Nets fans? The Nets general office? Paltrow and Dylan?

I don't understand rap lyrics.

"Politicians never did shit for me
Except lie to me, distort history"

Do you think he shares this sentiment with Obama when they dine together?

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 11:32 AM

"Jay-Z Releases Statement on Cuba Trip (produced by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz)"

I read that subejct line in my e-mail this morning and did a spit-take, it was so ridiculous.

Politicians never did nothing for him, except help arrange the land grab that let him build this arena that he claims to "own" and bring the team that he used to have a 0.067% ownership stake in to Brooklyn.

Jay-Z is just frustrated because he's realizing he isn't Russian billionaire rich

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 12:09 PM

Guy needs to hear about himself in the news everyday of the week doesn't he?? Jay you barely owned 1% of the team...Go back to Tribeca and keep trying harder to catch up to your billionare friends. He does nothing for his neighborhood except drive everyone he grew up with out. He probably drives down Marcy in a limo with Chris Martin sippin champagne.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 12:11 PM

he drops an 'Idiot Wind' reference, though. Gotta give it up for that.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 12:15 PM

right... but it's not a good song.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 12:23 PM

This story is thrilling.

Posted by Anonymouse | April 11, 2013 12:41 PM

Does anyone know if he is going to be riding the subway again anytime soon. If you have information on that let me know. I have a pie that needs to get thrown in someone's face.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 12:48 PM

Truth always hurts. Dope lyrics. Straight to the point. Instead of focusing on gun violence let's focus on jay's trip to cuba-republicans

Posted by chill | April 11, 2013 12:52 PM

dudes twitter bio literally just says 'genius'

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 12:52 PM

Bob Dylan of rap music? This guy is def. high. He's more like Kidd Rock.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 1:00 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 1:42 PM

Jay Z is a talentless posturing flaccid piece of shit. If anyone says otherwise they are fucking imbeciles or white apologists.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 1:45 PM

Wow, 1252, thought you were kidding...

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 2:15 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 2:16 PM

Why are you so concerned with this??

This track is better than 90% of what's been on this site this year. Fact.

Posted by Anonymous | April 11, 2013 2:57 PM

2:57, you are a fucking fool, go away.

Posted by Anonymous | April 12, 2013 9:02 PM
