The So So Glos at Death by Audio in 2010 (more by Leia Jospe)
So So Glos

The So So Glos have been playing around NYC for some time now, and they've been experiencing newfound success this year with the release of their album, Blowout, which Stereogum named their Album of the Week. It also inspired Rolling Stone to call them a Band to Watch, and they landed a spot on Letterman this past Friday (4/26) to perform its single, "Son of An American," which you can watch a video of below. The band actually set up a television at Bushwick DIY venue Shea Stadium on Friday night after Weekend's show so they could watch the Letterman broadcast. If you haven't heard Blowout yet, SPIN is streaming the entire thing.

The So So Glos are on tour now with Titus Andronicus (not for the first time). That tour kicked off in CT last night (4/28) and continues in Cambridge tonight. No NYC dates are announced for it, but Titus will play a free show on August 8 as part of the River Rocks series, and The So So Glos are sure to add something in their hometown sooner than later too.

Updated dates are listed, along with the Letterman video, below...

How did a band with no label get on Letterman?

I understand that I am an old man compared to many of the BV readers, but am I the only one annoyed that I can't buy a physical copy of the album? Forget vinyl, it is not even available on CD.

I like the So So Glos. They have that Clash/Hanoi Rocks swagger. Please take my money and sell my a physical copy.

a physical copy would cost them money. doing this digitally costs next to nothing. all profit. lame

Apple takes a HUGE cut from iTunes sales. If you want to talk about profiting from doing next to nothing, look at Apple.

It is a mystery (and a great testament to their publicist!) how these guys got on Letterman...but you know what...I'd rather have guys that have helped create and foster indie venues in their music community for years catch a few breaks than some other self-entitled hacks that have been catching breaks lately.

I bought a burned CD of Blowout from them for 10 dollars at the show last night in Connecticut. The logos printed on the CD were SSG entertainment and Shea Stadium Records. DIY to the core I suppose. Truly great record too.

Wow, this the longest any BV comments section had gone on with no one shitting on the band. Props

I just saw this band tonight at the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey, and they blew me away. I spent all of my money on their merch, and they have a fan for life after tonight. Simply astonishing.
