Vampire Weekend @ Roseland Ballroom - 4/28/2013
Vampire Weekend

Vampire Weekend played their very sold out and small (for them) show at Roseland Ballroom last night (4/28) in support of their upcoming album, Modern Vampires of the City (due out 5/14 via XL). If you couldn't get in, did you watch the Steve Buscemi-directed live webcast? Did you maybe watch it at Brooklyn Bowl? Like they said they would, Vampire Weekend previewed material from the new album at the show, and videos of them playing two new songs -- "Obvious Bicycle" and "Everlasting Arms" -- can be watched below (via Consequence of Sound). Comedian/musician Fred Armisen, as Thatcher-loving punk Ian Rubbish, opened the show and Steve Buscemi came out of the control booth for an appearance as well. Pictures and VW's setlist from the show are in this post and you can stream the entire concert below.

Not very surprisingly, like Phoenix did, Vampire Weekend have given fans who missed their small album-preview show a chance to see them in a much larger space this fall, Barclays Center on September 20. Tickets for that huge show go on sale Saturday (5/4) at 10 AM. Also as mentioned, the band will make their return to Saturday Night Live on May 11 when Kristen Wiig hosts.

Updated dates are listed, along with more pictures, the setlist, and videos from Roseland, below...

"Barclays Lol!"

Whatever, like you didn't see this coming. If Bowery Presents is going to try to put the fucking Natioanl there, why not Vampire Weekend?

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:14 AM

Gotta hand it to that dude for sticking with his epiphone.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:15 AM

uhm they sold out 3 dates at radio city. dont think theyll have any prob with barc.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:44 AM

Great show, but Ezra's voice sounded WEAK at the beginning. Nerves? Poor prep? Whatever the reason, it was surprising.

Also, what the heck is up with no M79?!?!

When does Death Grips get to headline Barclays???

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:48 AM

Right after Chairlift.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:52 AM

10:48 when he wears a shirt!

A nation of half a billion meat-eating warmongers, with a nuclear arsenal, and yet none of you can DJ with a fraction of the brilliance that Nina Kraviz has.

She's at Barclay's September 24.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 11:12 AM

Yo La Tengo's Hannukah run at Barclay's this year!

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 11:18 AM

I was also surprised with the lack of M79; felt like everyone was expecting them to break out the strings for an encore performance.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 11:23 AM

I drunkenly stumbled backstage and saw the four of them holding hands in a circle while peeing on a flaming scale-replica of a 1992 Saab 900. It was strange.

Also, the show was great.

Not all assholes are Vampire Weekend fans, but chances are good that if you're a Vampire Weekend fan, you're also an asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 11:52 AM

Remember when these dudes played Maxwell's? And they opened for Tokyo Police Club, along with Ra Ra Riot. And oh yeah, all three bands are god awful!

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 1:29 PM

How can anyone actually take this fucking band of Columbia rich kids seriously??

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 2:11 PM

"uhm they sold out 3 dates at radio city. dont think theyll have any prob with barc."

That was then, this is now

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 2:20 PM

2:11 Dude Shakira is from Columbia and I would take her seriously all night long if you know what I mean!

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 2:26 PM

Columbia =/ Colombia...Horrible try, though!

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 2:48 PM

2:48 I hate to admit it but I lolled at 2:28

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 2:52 PM

^2:26 that is!

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 2:52 PM

"How can anyone actually take this fucking band of Columbia rich kids seriously??"

Is this how you rationalize your own life failure? I went to school with all of them; none of them are 'rich kids' in the sense that you know. Most of them had as much opportunity as you did, and they actually earned their success while at Columbia (shows every week at shit venues all over the boroughs).

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 3:01 PM

What is wrong with the new song Step other than nothing?

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 3:02 PM

Great band. Glad to see them doing great things.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 3:22 PM

"Is this how you rationalize your own life failure? I went to school with all of them..."

Well aren't you just so special too.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 7:01 PM

@7:01pm You really, really missed the point there. I didn't even say I knew them personally. I only said that they rightfully earned their success, and they are not privileged in the least.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 7:58 PM

7:58, you admit you don't know them personally so you are making just as much of an assumption on their backgrounds as 2:11 is.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:36 PM

"7:58, you admit you don't know them personally so you are making just as much of an assumption on their backgrounds as 2:11 is."

Eye roll. When I said I didn't know them personally, I meant I am not friends with them. I know enough about them, their background, and their experience as a band while at Columbia to say what I said earlier.

Posted by Anonymous | April 29, 2013 10:59 PM

10:59 must be in the band and very unhappy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 30, 2013 12:38 AM

It celebrates G-d, in my opinion. It just states the truth. G-d loves humanity, but most don't love him back. Regardless if you're a believer or non-believer, most people just ignore G-d, but G-d hears what he wants to hear. He's G-d by the way, naturally he'd want to be praised.

Many Jews identify as culturally Jewish, seeing it as a part of their identity. They may not practice the religion regularly but they are proud of their faith and see themselves as Jews although they are not religious. Your comment is a grand simplification.
