The Moog Sound Lab is a video series where bands and artists are invited to perform in the Moog Music factory in Asheville, North Carolina. With an arsenal of Moog equipment at their disposal, the musicians offer radically new takes on their material.

Most of the artists this series are already in the electronic world (like Toro Y Moi, Diamond Rings, Zola Jesus, and Washed Out), but here’s a case where it’s a truly radical rework. Swedish folk artist The Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Matsson) usually keeps it unplugged, but offers up a new look on his song “There’s No Leaving Now” with help from 2012 tourmates Strand of Oaks. The original is a spare piano number; here Matsson uses the Moog Guitar to great, ethereal effect. Strand of Oaks’ Timothy Showalter and Chris Ward fill out the sound with, respectively, a Minimoog Voyager and Trap-Kit midi percussion.

You can watch video of their performance and check out a few more pictures from Moog Sound Lab, below.

Swedish folk artist Kristian Matsson, aka The Tallest Man On Earth, stepped into the Moog Sound Lab along with Strand of Oaks to reinvent the title track from his 2012 album There’s No Leaving Now. Matsson trades the solo piano of the original song for the infinite sustain of the Moog Guitar which he plays through an MF-103 12-Stage Phaser and an MF-104Z Analog Delay. In a rare moment of collaboration Strand of Oaks’ Timothy Showalter accompanies Matsson on a Minimoog Voyager while drummer Chris Ward uses a Trap-Kat midi controller to trigger the percussive sounds of three Rack Mount Voyagers.
