Palmetto Playground on Columbia Street in Brooklyn Heights was officially rechristened Adam Yauch Park this morning in a ceremony attended by Beastie Boys' Adam Horovitz (aka Ad-Rock), Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and Frances Yauch, the mother of Adam (aka MCA) who died on May 4, 2012.

There's a MCA Day celebration at Littlefield on Saturday (5/4). Video from the Adam Yauch Park rechristening, and a few more pictures, are below.

I never liked the Beastie Boys much, but Yauch was a fantastic human being and totally deserves this.

May u are in pure bliss realm. Thanks for everything u did for the good causes.

Adam and Mike are being offered massive $$$ for a "tribute to mca" to tour worldwide at end of 2013 into 2014. Goldenvoice has been pressuring them hard. There have been informal replacement auditions. Yauch's will prevented his voice to be used for commercial purposes but they want to keep the name and game going. Cant blame them.

Possibilities being looked at: El-P, MosDef, or even MIA.

I say why not?

1.35: I call BS on that.

The Adam Yauch park is awesome.

Hey 1:10, why don't you suck a fucking cock you fucking bitch. A "cock lol" isn't a thing. I was saying "I'd suck his COCK" and then the abbreviation for "laughing out loud" #cocklol #fuckyou

Hash tags in blog comments? That's useful.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 1:55 PM

1:55 apparently useful enough that you felt compelled to comment on it

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 1:58 PM

1:58 - Completely right. Only useful things get commented on.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 2:07 PM

this i still so sad

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 2:11 PM

Proving yet again that the shelf life for non-trolls on brooklynvegan for nice posts that no one here would have a problem with is still under 90 minutes. good job 1:51 and on.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 2:20 PM

12:42/1:51 - die.

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 2:29 PM

Think Nathaniel Hornblower Park has a nice ring to it, but this is still good

Posted by Anonymous | May 3, 2013 3:53 PM

If I didn't have to work for a living, I so would've been there today.

Word on the street is that Mike D wasn't in attendance because he's been creepin on the low with frohawk.

I need go to Brooklyn to see this park with my own eyes. I still miss you MCA. Thanks for come to Mexico. Long live Beastie Boys!

why this park I wonder?

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2013 7:16 PM

Is this sign stolen yet? Joey Ramone's street sign is so high in the air now that nobody can even see it.

VERY cool! RIP MCA.

Yo FUCK Goldenvoice for offering what they're offering.

1. Beastie Boys still exist and will exist until the day all of them die, and even then they will still exist only as immortals.

2. If Ad Rock and Mike D want to do a tribute to MCA, they will do it on their own terms and schedule, if they'll do it all. I would only venture to guess that a real, true tribute to MCA is PUT OUT MORE BEASTIE BOYS ALBUMS.

I wanna see Ad Rock and Mike D put out a new Beastie Boys album of new music for new times, like they always have done and always will do.

don't get upset by that tribute nonsense. not a shred of truth to it. there have been no auditions. there will be no tour. troll who started that used Goldenvoice because you'd all recognize that name from Coachella. If there were such a tour in the works (which there is not) it would be Live Nation or AEG (who owns Goldenvoice) approaching Mike and Adam. Goldenvoice does festivals, not tours.

So yeah it's bullshit.
