Courtney Love

Say what you will about Courtney Love's solo material or the current state of Hole (not counting their surprise classic lineup reunion at Public Assembly last year), but the first two Hole records are 90s alt-rock classics, and if the lead singer of those albums is heading out on a solo tour, it's at least as notable as Billy Corgan's version of the Smashing Pumpkins touring. We briefly mentioned that Courtney would be doing some NYC-area shows this year, and have since realized they're part of a short Northeast tour she's doing in June.

The tour hits Philly, Boston, and Maryland, before culminating in four NYC-area shows: June 26 at Warsaw in Brooklyn, June 27 at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, June 28 at Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, and June 29 at The Paramount in Huntington. Tickets for the Warsaw show are on sale now, tickets for the Stone Pony/Paramount shows go on sale Friday (5/10) at 10 AM, and tickets for the Cap show go on sale Friday (5/10) at noon.

The Paramount show and the non-NYC-area shows on the tour are with Brooklyn goths Starred, but no openers have been announced for the Warsaw, Cap, and Stone Pony shows yet. Starred's impressive Prison to Prison EP came out last year, and we've since heard new material from them on the Sub Pop 1000 compilation. Their contribution, the dark folk dirge, "Doomed," is one of the standouts on the compilation and the best track I've heard from Starred yet. You can listen to "Doomed" 34 minutes into the full album stream of Sub Pop 1000 below.

UPDATE: Starred have been announced as the openers for the Warsaw and Stone Pony shows as well.

All Courtney Love dates are listed, along with the Sub Pop stream and some classic Hole videos, below...

I wouldn't give a used tampon to see this cunt.

Careful, she sues anonymous people.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 1:20 PM

Starred also are a poor excuse for a band... Brooklyn goths my ass.

hate all you want, 'live through this' and 'celebrity skin' are two of the greatest albums of the 90s, and are greater accomplishments than anything you or i will probably ever do.

i'm going.

^Have fun you unbelievable moron

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 2:33 PM

Keep the misogyny coming, folks. And then tell me why Courtney's a crazy whore and Keith Richards is a hero.

Posted by Juliet | May 9, 2013 2:33 PM

Hey 2:22, as a scientist who does AIDS research, let me be one of the many to tell you how very stupid you are.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 2:36 PM

2:22 - Live Through This I'll give you., but I accomplished evacuating a stubborn turd the other morning which was way more entertaining than Celebrity Skin.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 2:52 PM

"...it's at least as notable as Billy Corgan's version of the Smashing Pumpkins touring."

No. Billy + Drummer = SP. Courtney + Eric Erlandson = Hole. Especially considering the best Hole material came when Courtney WASN'T getting people to cowrite.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 2:57 PM

2:33

Calm down. No one with an actual opinion on anything anymore gives a single fuck about Keith Richards because like really why

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:01 PM

The problem I have with Hole is they got what they got only because Courtney Love was Kurt Cobain's wife.

What work did Hole put in to get signed and be in position to have commercial success?

At least Nirvana played shows, toured, and put out music for four years before they broke big and most industry people thought Nevermind wouldn't even go Gold.

Courtney Love would flip out if you asked her point blank "Was Hole signed because you were Kurt Cobain's wife?" because you'd be asking her a question she'd have to answer "yes" to.

Hole is the epitome of music industry nepotism and for that I can never consider them a real band despite their limited commercial success.

Posted by D | May 9, 2013 3:04 PM

2:33 Keith Richards may be a used up junkie misogynist prune, but at least he didn't try to fuck his way to the top while shitting on everyone in his path like some other used up junkie.

That and he's infinitely more important.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:05 PM

Will most definitely be attending. I love this women and everything she can barely stands for...
Nobody's Daughter has some quality tracks on it too. PCH, Samantha, Skiny Little B, Never Go Hungry.

Get her on the Summerstage already!!!

Posted by smack | May 9, 2013 3:14 PM

Keith Richards could have murdered someone and he'd still be held in higher regard than this waste of cells..

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:17 PM

Hole was signed to Caroline and had a minor hit in 'Teenage Whore' before Nirvana broke, D. Just sayin'.

Posted by someone who was in college radio at the time (and is therefore old) | May 9, 2013 3:37 PM

I don't love the Courtney hate generally, but Fake D sorta nailed this. She was given her career on a silver platter, and she then had the gall to shit on everyone in her past and everything beneath her easy rise. (Writing "Olympia," for example, standing atop a major label deal is a pretty public and excellent example of her shitty behavior at the time).

So it's not the drugs and the self-destructiveness that bugs me about her, it's that - and worse she's shown herself to be sorta a phony hypocrite. For me the drugs and the sleeping around a lot are sort of a redeeming quality.

But pass on seeing her live. There's just as good music being made now, why go see nostalgia acts?

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:38 PM

@2:33

How about K Richards daughters never took out a restraining order against him?

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:39 PM

this should be a high-energy, song-filled, crowd-pleasing, well-organized, heartfelt, timely, professional and deeply satisfying rock show by a competent veteran performer who really knows how to give an audience their money's worth.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:44 PM

She should have a Kurt Cobain hologram singing Bon Jovi and Bush.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:53 PM

^
With Lauryn Hill opening?

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 3:54 PM

Live Through This and Celebrity Skin were written almost entirely by Kurt and Billy. Have you HEARD the last two albums she put out?

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 4:01 PM

"this should be a high-energy, song-filled, crowd-pleasing, well-organized, heartfelt, timely, professional and deeply satisfying rock show by a competent veteran performer who really knows how to give an audience their money's worth."

Thank you so much. A long hard day of work and i needed a really good laugh.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 4:20 PM

"Live Through This and Celebrity Skin were written almost entirely by Kurt and Billy. Have you HEARD the last two albums she put out?"

And 9/11 was an inside job, right?

Everyone can acknowledge that she is a mess now, and hasn't released good music in over a decade; that's not what's being discussed.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 4:20 PM

"Hey 2:22, as a scientist who does AIDS research, let me be one of the many to tell you how very stupid you are."

Thanks, I was worried for a bit that all AIDS researchers were cool people.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 4:24 PM

hehehehe it's so trendy to hate on courtney love and her music.

how can you not like those first two LPs? the first was pretty much incesticide with a female vocalist; the second was perfect west coast pop-grunge(malibu, celebrity skin, awful, reasons to be beautiful, hit so hard, heaven tonight)

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 4:32 PM

Forget Courtney Love, that girl from Starred is a total piece of shit. Watch your wallets, people.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 4:58 PM

yeah i like some hole songs fwiw

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 5:02 PM

I had a teacher in 6th grade who said "What's a whole number?" and then said "it's not the number of people in courtney love's band" - this was a teacher who would talk to students about the episode of friends that was on the night before, I wonder if she will be there

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 5:03 PM

just glad Warsaw is having shows again. it's been way too long.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 5:03 PM

hehehehe it's so trendy to hate on courtney love

>> so hating terrible human beings is trendy ?

Hey genius, If you're going to stand up for someone you allegedly respect at least have the decency to get her discography correct. Pretty on the Inside was her first record---not Live Through This.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 6:16 PM

It annoys me greatly when there is a Hole in my pita triangle.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 6:36 PM

Pretty on the Inside was Hole's first album and it was released a month before Nevermind in 1991. Kim Gordon produced Pretty on the Inside and the song Teenage Whore hit number one on the UK Indie charts. Courtney was in bands with Kat Bjelland and Jennifer Finch back in 1985.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 6:37 PM

OK, she put out one great album many years ago, one ok album and after that a bunch of crap. She was never a great singer and barely a musician. She talks shit about other people on a regular basis, did drugs while pregnant with a daughter who wants nothing to do with her. You would pay money to see this crackwhore mess?

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 7:05 PM

You forgot may or may not have had her husband offed...

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 7:09 PM

Can we please retire that dopey term "hater" or "hate on" or "hate"? It's really dumb.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 8:43 PM

woahhhh misogyny, there's a plethora of male musicians who were/are as insanely bat shit crazy as she was/is and don't get this kind of harassment.

and seriously, saying she doesn't write her music is as insulting to kurt cobain and billy corgan as it is to courtney love.

Posted by gen | May 9, 2013 8:43 PM

843 Some valid points. Even her best music pales in comparison to Nirvana or The Pumpkins music at that time.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 9:52 PM

6:16-
"West Coast Pop-Grunge" cannot be perfect. Ever.

Posted by Anonymous | May 9, 2013 9:58 PM

Fake D? LOL @ 3:38pm.

3:37pm and 6:37pm

Just, stop.

Hole got signed to a major label on Love being Cobain's wife, period, end of story, case closed. No coincidence whatsoever.

Everything Hole got after that was because of that, mainly and essentially.

They sold 200,000 copies of their debut album and had a minor hit in the UK you say? Yeah, well sales of that album were across many, many years, and one could seriously argue the majority of the sales happened post-Nirvana and Hole breakouts. Big deal they had a minor hit in one country.

As far as Kim Gordon's involvement, ok, let's add her to the nepotism. No Cobain and Gordon, no Hole's commercial success after POTI.

My point you two obviously missed was Hole was (and is since they've been playing here and there recently) a product of nepotism.

Sending music with a letter to Kim Gordon and hooking up with Cobain hardly constitutes hard work which Sonic Youth and Nirvana put in to get what they got.

Posted by D | May 10, 2013 1:44 AM

is there a Hole in my pita triangle?

Posted by fag bearing | May 10, 2013 1:57 AM

Its not even about misogyny.. Courtney is just a bad soul

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2013 8:47 AM

Thanks for the '90's alt-rock classics. Now, go away.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2013 8:52 AM

D - maybe you weren't around at the time. It's true. Hole already had singles on SubPop and SFTRI, and Courtney even had a band named after her way before Nirvana got their 'big break'. And I think Hole always sucked. I just don't think history bears out what you're saying.

Posted by 3:37 | May 10, 2013 9:19 AM

D wasn't alive when Hole was making good music.

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2013 10:43 AM

hole did more work than putting a song on a myspace and convincing some blogs (who just want to be able to say they broke some news) to rave about you until the english press declares you saviors of music which is like how it works now I think

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2013 11:35 AM

Yes but where would Courtney be now if she had not married Kurt ?

(see Babes in Toyland , L-7)

Posted by Anonymous | May 10, 2013 11:50 AM

This may not go "well"...

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2013 5:44 AM

the iPods

Posted by Anonymous | May 11, 2013 7:49 AM

She's the perfect candidate for an episode of Intervention.

Posted by Michele | May 11, 2013 11:20 AM

9:19am I was around at the time.

10:43am I was alive when Hole was making music barely anyone outside of the UK gave a fuck about until Courtney hooked up with then married Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, one of the biggest new things if not the biggest thing to hit rock 'n' roll in 1991-92.

So what Hole had singles on Sub Pop and SFTI?

No Kurt Cobain, no Hole being signed to Geffen, no Hole having commercial success, period, end of story, case closed.

If she had to go it alone instead of ride the coattails of her boyfriend turned husband, she would've never broke out in the mainstream music world.

Courtney I know you're reading this so tell everyone Hole only got signed to Geffen cuz your husband was in Nirvana. 'Way to slum it at CBGB 7/15/91, a show I proudly missed. CBGB was so fucking lame that year (zero hardcore shows.)

Posted by D | May 13, 2013 4:21 AM

Hi D. Well, we disagree. That's fine. At least there hasn't been any lxly-styled nonsense thrown in.

Posted by 3:37 / 9:19 | May 13, 2013 10:00 AM

"If she had to go it alone instead of ride the coattails of her boyfriend turned husband, she would've never broke out in the mainstream music world."

You realize it's impossible to prove a hypothetical claim like the one above, right? And therefore saying it in the first place is ridiculous? I love your opinion, but it's nothing more than that. Unless you're Doctor Who.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2013 10:31 AM

I love the Courtney haters who conveniently forget the fact there were 3 other people in Hole. You can say what you will about Courtney now, but to dismiss the band she was in as getting signed because of Kurt is a huge, huge insult to the talented contributions of Melissa, Eric and Patty - you know, the three other members of Hole. Not that I would expect the haters to care about facts or anything.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 9:10 PM

10:31am

Yeah it was just coincidence that Kurt Cobain's wife's band got signed to Geffen right after Cobain's band Nirvana broke big - PSSSSHHHH!!! So you must think Julian Lennon was signed to a major label because of his music and not that his father was John Lennon. Dipshit.

9:10pm I'm not a "hater", spare me that shit.

Hole minus Courtney Love equals zero, especially no Geffen signing Hole. The Hole signing was music industry nepotism at its worst as Hole was a musical barfbag.

Posted by D | May 20, 2013 12:14 AM

who paid you to hide the evil comments?

Posted by Anonymous | May 24, 2013 1:22 AM

uhhh hole's 'live through this" was recorded way before kurt died and it was stellar and they toured PLENTY. It was also critically acclaimed and won a ton of awards. anyone who says Courtney love sucks doesn't know shit about her nor has heard her music, she wrote everything btw. she may be a bitch but I don't think she cares. just my opinion.

Posted by sarahcandelier | June 18, 2013 2:46 PM

her and that pantywaste husband of hers-not only a poor example of parents but quite possibly 2 of the most overrated rockers in history-and a shit actress to boot...................
