people waiting to get in Sunday morning (via)
GoogaMooga

They really thought they were going to open today. They even announced that more tickets were being released today and that James Murphy, following in Sharon Jones's footsteps, had cancelled his performance today due to a family emergency. But the rain has won, and the second day of the 2nd GoogaMooga is now officially CANCELLED. The people pictured above waiting to get in today are probably especially upset.

Official reason: "NYC Parks Dept, Prospect Park Alliance & #Googamooga have canceled today's event in the interest of safety & prevention of damage to park."

All Sunday VIP ticket purchases will be refunded in full.

Bands and DJS that were supposed to play today included Delicate Steve, Cults, De La Soul, Kool & the Gang (instead of Sharon Jones), Nancy Whang & Pat Mahoney (instead of James Murphy), and M.A.K.U. Sound System.

Stay tuned for our pictures from Friday and Saturday, coming soon. Meanwhile watch a channel 12 video report that was filmed in the park early Saturday (it claims GoogaMooga will be back "bigger and better in 2014"), and a video of the Flaming Lips playing "You Lust" on Friday (you can hear people screaming "Vaseline, Vaseline!"), below...

shit show

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 12:33 PM

But what will Kool and his Gang do with the the rest of their day now?

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 12:35 PM

Yeah, probably shouldn't call it "rain or shine" and if there was any chance it was going to be canceled, they should have emailed Sunday ticketholders first thing this morning to warn them it might be.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 12:37 PM

Welp, won't be seeing you next year, GoogaMooga!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 12:39 PM

So do the people that paid $65 for the Friday night that were promised a ticket for Sunday get something back??????

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 12:45 PM

I'm coming to the conclusion that Superfly are sort of terrible festival organizers.

The way they handle the front 40% of the festival viewing area (everything up to the sound board), for example, is fucking terrible. They cordon it off like cattle cars or a concentration camp. No one understands who is allowed in this area, and at any given point it is only 50% full. The entire right side remained empty through Friday and Saturday. There is also a giant empty gap that exists right in the center from the stage back to the sound board.

So the bands are playing to half an empty field, then a few rows of people standing at the rail before the cattle stuff starts, then people lounging on blankets apathetically.

What's most interesting about this is their (cheap-ass) decision, if they are going to create a stage like this, to not have any live video. If most of the audience is forced to be a football field away because of this strange contraption, you'd think they'd setup large video screens. But they don't. So for most of the attendees the music is more like a radio event, with a little dot in the distance creating it. I've heard Bonnarroo is also setup exactly like this, and Outside Lands I hear nothing but complaints about sound and it being an overcrowded mess.

The thing was, since no one understood how this worked, and security refused to explain, it was pretty easy for me to be in that front left cattle corral all weekend for the bands I wanted to see. So I'm (sort of) happy - but what a disjointed, shitty way to setup a festival stage and sort of force the crowd to *not* be involved with the music. Even the left front cattle side, they only let people in up to around 50% of capacity - so during the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, for example, when it should have been the most crowded, that left front area was 50% full, and the right front area about the same.

Then you add in them saying "rain or shine" when it was clear that wasn't true at all. Add in their initial fuckup with bag checks that caused people that took off work early to still miss The Darkness. The fact that they scheduled The Darkness at 4:45 at all for what people expected was a traditional night concert ticket when they purchased. Add in the insane disaster that was last year...

I think Superfly just may be terrible festival promoters. I think Bonnarroo people forgive them because they are high as fuck on drugs for 5 days camping, and so forgive this lackadaisical, not giving a shit element of Superfly. I think people are aware Outside Lands is shitty, but either don't care or go for the lineup.

Everyone I know that lives in San Francisco hates Outside Lands. Why are NYers letting this happen here? This will only get bigger and more fucked up. The time to chase them out is now....

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:02 PM

Have to agree with 1:02. I've never been to Bonnaroo but Outside Lands is kind of a mess and the stage setups are awful, with only the first few rows able to see one of the stages and the main stage is basically blocked by sound equipment except for the first twenty rows.

The problem is that these kinds of festivals SHOULD be rain or shine, free and open to the public AND in Central Park, because the Great Lawn (despite what Bloomberg says) can handle that kind of attendance because it's so massive.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:09 PM

Ugh. Someone kill me. Or kill your idols. Or kill Jackson Browne.

Posted by HollaMan | May 19, 2013 1:09 PM

Why would anyone wait in the rain for something that is free? It's not like they bought tix.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:16 PM

the top picture makes me feel trippy

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:21 PM

All these problems could be avoided if you just stayed home and smoked weed.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:30 PM

Dear Googa Mooga, Congratulations. An entire festival and media event dedicated to New Yorker's infantile obsession of what they are eating. I am glad I have nothing to do with you. Sincerely, Reality

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:31 PM

1:02 Bonnaroo is not set up like that you stupid motherfucker. Don't compare a shit sham show like Googa to Bonnaroo because Googa is run by shit promotors. Go fuck a hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:37 PM

Nice job guys, you send out an email this morning saying you have tickets at the door only to cancel the event a few hours later with people waiting in line for an hour or more.

Assholes!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:40 PM

Why is Wayne holding that girls hair like that and who is that girl is he going to fuck her after the show?

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:43 PM

Sunday last year will not be topped. Hall & Oates, Charles Bradley, previous day scaring folks away, great weather and, oh, Hall & Oates.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:43 PM

I stood overnight for this to be cancelled? Fuck you Googamooga and fuck you James Murphy.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:44 PM

Good, I'm glad it got cancelled. Now, hopefully all those shit food vendors lose all their terrible food they already made. Who agrees with me???? Horrible food!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:47 PM

PLEASE STOP THIS STUPIDITY! NO MORE GOOG MOOGA!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:50 PM

Just found the torrent for Pantyhose Seduction 39 starring Vannah Sterling. I'll be GOOGAMOOGAING until my wife gets home.

Posted by HollaMan | May 19, 2013 1:55 PM

It said rain or shine, hell the sun is out now in CA why was it cancelled?

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:55 PM

I, too, blame James Murphy for this. Thanks a lot asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 1:59 PM

New Yorker's infantile obsession of what they are eating? You are what you eat fool! I guess you are one of these idiots who just shove anything into your mouth. That's like listening to Top 10 radio.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:02 PM

claiming Hall and Oats as the highlght of last year says it all!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:13 PM

kind of serves you right if you identify as a foodie.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:15 PM

Petunia and I say fuck all you morons for standing in line for a free show.

Posted by James Murphy | May 19, 2013 2:16 PM

102 Music festivals in general suck except for maybe New Orleans Jazz Fest. Too many jerky people, expensive, mostly crappy food & drinks, lousy windblown sound, putting people in pens, too many cell phones and cameras (oh wait that's at all shows).

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:23 PM

Fat James Murphy fucks up once again. Fuck that guy.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:23 PM

2:02 settles for no less than the most "artisanal" pita and the best "handcrafted" hummus.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:27 PM

^yes, he has special markets he goes to and buys single district chickpeas.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:28 PM

that's the line to get in? for people who already have a ticket? yes indeed, a shit show.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:34 PM

2:02 are you too good for Sabra?

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:39 PM

EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!! EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:41 PM

3:23 is just mad he can't afford to have a cell phone at a show.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:44 PM

Brooklyn fails again. It is a second-rate city.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:46 PM

If the Nethermeade is ruined because these dicks rolled vehicles up on the grass and then out during the rain, I will personally kick the guy from Superfly's ass and/or sue them. We use the Nethermeade almost everyday in the summer as we live on THAT side of the park, and this program should have never been allowed there in the first place. It's an outrage.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:48 PM

Let's all pray Nethermeade is ruined for 2:48's sake

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 2:57 PM

^
Why? 2:48 is right. GoogaMooga should not have been allowed in the Nethermeadow in light of the damage they did last year.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 3:05 PM

"Foodies" are wankers.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 3:12 PM

I had a good time Saturday. The festival was set up much better last year. I had this awesome fish taco that was 15 dollars but it was soooooo good.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 3:34 PM

Hopefully they will get kicked out for this fiasco and not return next year.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:12 PM

I HATE THIS thing... everything about it is annoying.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:12 PM

I went yesterday and not one hummus stand.
Googamooga gets what they deserve.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:27 PM

If you self-identify as a "foodie," you're worse than a hipster.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:32 PM

GREAT GOOGA MOOGA rescheduled for tomorrow (Monday)!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:46 PM

everything still set up. No tickets required. Just walk in tomorrow.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:47 PM

3:34 - If this thing has the nerve to charge $15 for fish tacos, everyone involved deserves what they get.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:48 PM

I went on Sat. We had a blast. No complaints. Left before Matt & Kim, America's worst band.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 4:53 PM

Something tells me tomorrow's food won't be too fresh. It's supposed to rain tomorrow too. In fact, it will keep raining until these idiots pack up and leave the park.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 5:07 PM

I hope Delicate Steve is ok. He can be fragile.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 5:14 PM

if you want food out of your own home, go to a fucking restaurant

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 5:52 PM

In the name of Lee Dorsey, put it in the ground, you guys.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 6:03 PM

just spent $100 bucks at local restaurants instead and it was great

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 6:21 PM

I had fun the two last days!! I was so bummed Sunday was cancelled too. But it was so much better than last year. And man, I danced my ass off in the park with cocktails. Lovely.

Posted by Doreen | May 19, 2013 6:46 PM

This event should really be called The Great & Terrible Googa Mooga!

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 8:19 PM

3:34 - i had a fish taco about 22 years ago, and here you are. you have blue eyes, right?

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 8:23 PM

2:48: KICK THEIR ASSES! I agree, this nonsense shouldn't be held in the park and they'd better fix any damage they caused.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 8:47 PM

2:48 aint gonna do shit. Typical entitled yuppie.

Posted by Anonymous | May 19, 2013 9:27 PM

Festivals, foodies, and foodie festivals, fuck em.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 12:58 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 1:09 AM

Loved it Friday and Saturday, anyone else see David Byrne?

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 9:11 AM

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 9:16 AM

Posted by carte 3ds | May 20, 2013 10:19 AM

453pm. u should have left after father john misty.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 10:22 AM

Please stop shoving this expensive artificial elitist consumer hipster gathering on us every year.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 10:23 AM

1:02,

I had the same issue with the cattle area (great way to refer to it btw). The security goons would constantly not let people in when it was half full (and or 1/3 full) saying it was at capacity. I heard it was 250-people per side so when they let us back in for the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, the huge fat dude had to count each person (I'm still amazed this idiot could count beyond 10).

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 11:02 AM

No fun... for you... no fun.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 11:14 AM

You know a band is terrible when they need a light show to make seeing their set worthwhile.

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 1:40 PM

make it stop make it stop

Posted by Anonymous | May 20, 2013 3:14 PM

This food looks delicious! The last time I saw that smile on your face after eating something was when you had the Key Lime Pie! What a great event!
