Motor City

We knew it was coming but now we know when. Ludlow St. bar Motor City's last day of slinging booze and rock n' roll will be June 30. A week before -- Sunday, June 23 -- they're throwing a big goodbye party from 4 PM - 4 AM. The day will feature live music from Tall Black Girls, Baby Shakes, The Othermen, The Swingin' Neckbreakers (w/ special guest Jukebox Jodi) from 5 PM - 7 PM. After that DJs will include Jonathan Toubin, Alex Corporan, Dion Lunadon (APTBS), Jo Murray, Baz, Trash Only, and Gizmo with dancing from Anna CopaCabanna.

The party is free, so come out and say goodbye to a Lower East Side institution. With Max Fish leaving soon too, Ludlow St. will be a different place.

Ludlow is already a different place. It has been for a while, even going back to when Libation showed up, or when Max Fish decided to put a velvet rope in front of the bar.

11:27 - Yup, Libation was the start of it. Max Fish lost its identity long before people started complaining about it.

Good riddance. It started off ok but this place employs and serves cockfaces.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo...Gutted is an understatement...I spent my first night here back in Sept 11 for the DGEN reunion weekend...had the time of my life listening to Howie Pyro DJ-ing the night away, it was magical and something totally unexpected, a real thrill...the first night of a very special 3 night trip to see DGeneration perform their reunion show at Irving Plaza...such special memories, never will I forget...

damn, the les is about suck even more

what do you mean "Nooooooo"? That WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD is shit now, Motor city is a relic, only cool in your memory from 10 years ago. And if you're still regularly reliving that , that's somewhat sad.
For the last 4 or 5, it's just a curiosity for the New Jersey Women's Olympic Puking Team, and that's just sad. I say farewell, and good luck. They will put something terrible in there to match the current landscape of the LES.

You just know none of these rummies posting here actually live in the LES.

Posted by Anonymous | May 30, 2013 3:05 PM

why would you want to at this point?

Posted by Anonymous | May 30, 2013 3:57 PM

Even with the LES becoming more and more like a mall, it is still so
Much better then Williamsburg, which is nothing but homogenized "coolness".

What are the viable replacements for Motor City? In the EV there are none that combine dingy dive with space & a rock n roll vibe. Yes there are still places to drink, but to REPLACE Motor City, it's a loss, the same way Marz Bar was a loss. International & Coal Yard? Too small and a different feel, more straight dive, music less important. Iggys? Too yuppified. 2A? More roots rock. Double Down? Too HC downtrodden. The Library? For when Double Down seems too clean, but never quite reaching Marz Bar insanity. Billy Hurricanes? Too lame B&T. B-Side? Too dead. Milanos? Again, too cramped, although a good dive vibe. Grassroots? A little bright, a bit too clean. Horseshoe? Classic, but too B&T. Manitobas? That's it's own thing ruled by Handsome Dick and also adds a tighter music "punk rock hits" playlist & local sports vibe (Yankees, Super Bowl parties, etc.). Maybe I'm wrong but everything else is either too NYUish or "young professional". Beauty Bar? Maybe that's the closest in spirit, but now you are getting into a different neighborhood altogether. Am I forgetting something????

^ yes you forgot local 151 and St. Jerome's.
I find your reporting spot on... Curious to know what you think.

Otto's is the only place

Posted by Anonymous | May 30, 2013 10:01 PM

5:49 needs to get out more. Every last one of those places is embarrassing. Manhattan is for stupid people and Duane Reades and office workers. Take a train to Bushwick or something.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2013 11:28 AM

5:49 has too much time on his hands.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2013 12:04 PM

5:49 - I think you forgot that crystal meth should only be snorted on weekends. You might want to slow down a bit.

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2013 1:29 PM

St. Jerome's closed last week

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2013 2:54 PM

5:49 is writing paragraphs and shit

Posted by Anonymous | May 31, 2013 3:11 PM

5:49 knows what's up. Don't believe the hate. Where is one supposed to go then? And why is Otto's dead whenever I show up there? (not the weekend)

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2013 1:47 AM

5:49 is a fucking loser.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2013 2:12 AM

Actually I take that back upon re-reading the comment. 5:49 is actually pretty alright.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2013 2:13 AM

right on 5:49. you know the deal.

Idle Hands on Ave B has some good rock nights and there is always 7B (during the week, not weekends)

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2013 4:16 PM

Newark is the new LES.

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2013 4:28 PM

1:17 nailed it

Posted by Anonymous | June 18, 2013 4:29 PM

Yeah nobody here lives in the LES. There's plenty of good places. MC was good, not too sad to see Max Fish go. Also why hang out in the EV?

Posted by Anonymous | June 30, 2013 10:08 PM

I always would watch their show but now they don't play it anymore n the whole cast hot older! I love this song... ❤
