Phil Anselmo with Down at Best Buy Theater (more by Greg Cristman)
Phil Anselmo

With all of the many many projects that Phil Anselmo has been involved in over the years (Down, Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, Arson Anthem, etc), its not entirely shocking to hear that the vocalist/guitarist/songwriter has taken on another . His latest, called Philip Anselmo & The Illegals, is being billed as his first "solo" venture, despite writing all of the music on the first Viking Crown EP. The band is preparing to release their new record, Walk Through Exits Only, via his own Housecore Records, for a July 16 blast off. Stream a new track below.

As discussed at InvisibleOranges, the release of new material also comes packaged with live dates dubbed "Technicians of Distortion" tour, where the band will be joined by perennial tourmates/Housecore bros Warbeast and most interstingly, the great industrial/metal oddity Author & Punisher! Look for the tour to hit NYC on August 16 at Best Buy Theater. Tickets go on sale Friday (5/24) at noon.

As discussed at InvisibleOranges, Author & Punisher are readying the new LP, Women & Children, released on June 11. Stream that title track below.

And, as mentioned, Anselmo & Co will also play Austin, TX with Goblin soon too.

All other tour dates are listed, along with that song stream, below.

Also playing his Housecore Horror Fest in Austin. Which is way over priced, but whatever.

Down is a proven band with a fairly substantial fanbase, in which case Best Buy makes sense, but this is a bit ambitious for a brand new project, no? Theyre gonna have trouble filling that room. When he headlined shows with Superjoint, they played CB's.

I'd have a lot more respect for him if he came out already. worst kept secret in music.

This is the same hair metal dude that was in Pantera, right? He should have stuck to glam.

Good guitar leads/sounds, boring riffs, blasé songs.

Should have taken the guitar leads and made riffs out of those and then crafted songs.

This is Down not Pantera know reason to bitch about anything.Phil is the man his voice is destroyed it has been for years but still he is having fun he's not going to sit around and do nothing. He's got some good buddy's to jam with. Not really a secret i have known for over 10 years that Phil is bisexual no reason for him to say shit about it.Phil liking pussy or cock doesn't make his music and different.Hilarious when people bitch about certain parts of the music these guys are pro's i would love to see you haters make music like Down And Corrosion Of Conformity.

hilarious to see some of these comments. If Phil/Pantera/Down ain't your joint, that is fine, but to question his talent/cred is comical. Lately he has been promoting Portal by wearing their shirt at shows this year. The guy loves metal, and is great for the genre, extreme or otherwise. Make fun of every single metalcore, deathcore, crabcore band in the universe, totally fine, but taking shots at Phil is basically like saying you take yourself too seriously.
