Hopefully the Cheap Trick show goes better than their performance in 2011 that was cut short by the weather.

Posted by Anonymous | June 24, 2013 2:32 PM

I was hoping for a better lineup, but it's still pretty good for a free set of shows. The only thing with them though is that they keep recycling the same acts over and over. And the overall quality each year takes a hit. Based on history I'm going to bet the the TBA ends up being Joan Jett.

bring back the hippie fest!

Posted by Anonymous | June 24, 2013 4:16 PM

4:04, you don't know what you are talking about. They have Cheap Trick because it's basically a make up show for the fact that they only played for a half hour because of a storm, and that wasn't even last year that was two seasons ago. All the other acts on the lineup at Coney Island are the first time this year.

Posted by Anonymous | June 24, 2013 5:29 PM

Yeah and the B-52's played the second time also to make up for a severe bad weather show also.

Beside Joan Jett which may have been a last minute replacement for something else that fell through, each year is basically completely different

Posted by Anonymous | June 24, 2013 5:31 PM

They did have Smokey before but that was several years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | June 24, 2013 5:32 PM

Smokey and Huey are repeats.

Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2013 8:35 AM

I'm praying so hard that the tba is joan Jett ;) . I got to see her for the first time in concert last year thanks to Coney Island .. and I didn't have to worry about expensive ticket prices .

Posted by Stephanie Jett | June 25, 2013 3:50 PM

WHY CAN THEY LET PEOPLE FILM THE SHOWS?

Posted by Karl MO$hpit | June 25, 2013 5:07 PM

would like to see groups from the 80's, for next years line up or some doo opp groups oldies but goodies would be nice too. Enjoyed it last year. Saw the Jackson's were amazing and Gladys Night and the Commadores were great missed Joan Jett though. Thanks to Marty!! Fantastic Coney.

Concert is all good, but I hate the new venue!!

Posted by Eric | June 27, 2013 8:03 PM

This has got to be one of THE best lineups by far. I REALLY hope the TBA is Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. I saw her last year at Coney and it was downright phenomenal!

Posted by Ethan | June 27, 2013 9:09 PM

I've never been to this venue. How is it? Can you bring chairs and food like the other venue? What's a good time to get there?

Posted by Denise | June 29, 2013 10:30 AM

Last year had a great lineup. Went to most of the shows. Enjoyed squeeze and the Romantics the best. Too bad a lot of people didn't show up because of the weather. Well the rain stopped at the start of the concert. Everyone missed s great show

Posted by marie | July 1, 2013 10:39 AM

10:30AM - The venue is basically a big parking lot with a big stage. You can bring chairs and food, although those with their own chairs will get put waaaay in the back. They have a lot of chairs set up closer that "rent" for $5 but it's worth it. I also went to the Squeeze/Romantics show last year and enjoyed it despite the rain, may hit the GoGos this year.

The TBA is Lynard Skynard. I got this from a source that is a Markowitz inside player. Southern rock history in Brooklyn! All true rockers shall rejoice.

Posted by Doogie | July 7, 2013 10:37 AM

I'm def going ta see Huey And The News,id like ta see the B52s,I missed that and def seeing the Go Gos,I hope the TBA,is the B52s

First of all, I love the Coney Island free concerts. I was at the 70s Disco show, Squeeze, and Joan Jett.

Second - to the Hipster smuck that said Huey Lewis was the only good concert in the lineup. From what ironic rock did you crawl out from under from? Huey Lewis was corporate pop. Cheap Trick and The Go-Gos rule!

Posted by Twisted Step Sister | July 12, 2013 6:16 PM

I don't know why its called a free concert when most of the space its taken up by vip/reserved seating. I went to cheap trick last night and even the handicap people had to stay in a little bullpen area off to the side while there were dozens of empty seats up

Posted by Michael | July 13, 2013 11:51 AM

^You went to see Cheap Trick in the pouring rain. I have no sympathy for an idiot like yourself. You deserved what you got.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2013 1:30 PM

It wasn't pouring rain, it let up off and on. Cheap Trick were amazing! The handicap area was off to the side but only about 20 rows back with a great view, so why complain? If you can't afford $5 to sit in seating that is up close to the stage, then stay home with your $5 Entemann's and get fatter.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2013 2:15 PM

It rained pretty much the whole time. Shut the fuck up 2:15. Cheap Trick were ok. Without Bun E, this is not the same band

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2013 2:41 PM

what a great show was 5th row center it was unbelievable they played like they did 32 years ago when I first saw them it was worth enduring the rain cheap trick 2 seats a slice of pizza and dunkin donuts coffee all for 20 bucks is why no place beats Brooklyn in the summer what a rockin hot show did not stop dancing once

Posted by stacey allam | July 13, 2013 7:00 PM

"it was unbelievable they played like they did 32 years ago"

You are an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2013 7:44 PM

---You know , i PAID $100 to see HUEY 30th Anniversary show at IRVING PLAZA just last month !!
Huey on harmonica was supreme....
I also PAID $80 to see Go-Go's & B52's at ROSELAND just last week !!
"Cool-Jerk" was best performance
and NOW they are playing for FREE !!

Lots of hate. Sit back and stew. (sun)

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2013 7:19 PM

Did Cheap Trick go on Friday night with the rainy weather?

Posted by steven | July 15, 2013 10:19 AM

Marty! Thanks for so many years of bringing So many bands & performers to Brooklyn! I'm still talking about last year's Aretha Franklin concert! However, gentrification hasn't gotten rid of all the latinos in NYC! Where's "Salsa By The Sea?!

Epic Fail!

Went to see skynard tonite. Incredible show . Had so much fun!!!!

Posted by Joan | July 18, 2013 11:16 PM

People! stop complaining about the various acts. These concerts are ''FREE'' . All the acts are fabulous...Especially when you dont have to fork over $50.00 plus to see them. Fine Entertainment is the order of the day!

Posted by IAN COC | July 24, 2013 11:25 AM

Nobody here seems to be mentioned the Tom Tom Club who are opening for the Go-Go's.

The Tom Tom Club are the three creative members of Talking Heads (Tina and Chris Weymouth and Jerry Harrison), minus David Bryne.

The Tom Tom Club had a good number of hits in the late 80's and early 90's that you'll remember after just a few beats. Don't miss out on a good gig just because you're unfamiliar with the name of the band!

In my opinion the Go-Go's should be opening for the Tom Tom Club!! (Kindly note: my opinion and $2.50 will get you on the subway.) :-)

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2013 2:44 PM

Smokey Robinson was great. He still has it after all these years. Was disappointed that he never came back out after he left the stage to sing Cruisin

Posted by marie | July 25, 2013 11:01 PM

Not to be too pedantic to "July 25, 2013 2:44 PM" but Jerry Harrison was not in the Tom Tom Club. His side project was The Casual Gods. Just saying do people don't go and start complaining that he wasn't there.

That being said, Tom Tom Club are phenomenal and total right for a Coney Island summer show. I am not sure if I would say they are more qualified to be the headliner than The Go-Go's, but in this case it makes no difference. Anyone who doesn't make sure to see both is missing out.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2013 11:35 PM

I walk with a cane and can't wait on long lines do they have a line for seats for the handicap?

Posted by Laura | August 1, 2013 11:33 AM

Is tonite's show rained out?

Posted by Boris | August 1, 2013 12:31 PM

^ I saw Cheap Trick in the pouring rain, so I kind of doubt that tonight will get cancelled. It doesn't matter, dress appropriately, expect to get wet and have a good time. Then go to Nathans on the way home for some heartburn on a bun.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2013 12:48 PM

Looking forward to seeing Chicago tomorrow - Making the trip all the way down just to see them.

Posted by Sal | August 20, 2013 8:31 PM

IS THERE A RAIN DATE IF THE CONCERT IS CANCELLED TONIGHT?

Posted by JOSEPH LEACH | August 22, 2013 3:06 PM

Great´╗┐ performance. Rick Nielsen is almost starting to look like the Beach Boy's Mike Love.

Posted by Kennedi | September 26, 2013 2:17 PM

I always love how guitarists talk out their asses. And I am a guitarist. "I haven't tuned my guitar in 30 years." Please, so if your guitar is out of tune when you are at home, you just leave it that way or you make a phone call for your tech to come over? BS.´╗┐
