Grails at MusicFestNW 2011 (more by Autumn Andel)

Psychedelic post-rock band Grails have been keeping pretty quiet lately, but they're finally ready to head out on the (silk) road again. The Portland band will be heading out with Grails members Alex Hall and Emil Amos' side project Lilacs & Champagne and JR Robinson's Wrekmeister Harmonies on a tour that comes to Brooklyn on September 15 at Saint Vitus. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates are listed, along with the tour flyer, below.

For Lilacs & Champagne, the project that gives Alex and Emil a chance to take a break from all the raga rock and make something closer to trip hop, this will be their first tour ever. As mentioned, they released a new album, Danish & Blue, earlier this year, and have now just made a video for its track, "Sensations," which makes its premiere in this post. It's on the NSFW side and you can check it out below.

Grails also recently put out new material: the previously discussed fifth installment of their Black Tar Prophecies EPs, this one being a split with Pharaoh Overlord. The four songs that Grails contributed to the split are dark, atmospheric, and generally less heavy than some of their more recent stuff, like 2011's Deep Politics. You can stream the opening track, "Chariots," below, and the album is available for purchase at the Kemado webstore.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Chicago's Wrekmeister Harmonies played a hometown show, and you can check out pictures on BV Chicago from that show. You can also check out a review of their new album on Invisible Oranges.

Video, song streams, tour schedule and flyer are below...

Grails is excellent in the studio, but in a live setting, they just don't cut it.

I'm a scarf who's jamming to this and might just go. But St Vitus is like Sausage HQ.. anything I should know about the venue?

I already plan to check the bathrooms for glory holes.

Emil, I love your work, but you should´╗┐ use your 70's rare movie clips with more logic sense. They seem to be random...

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for some older jazz/prog-rock/zeuhl/modern classical/psychedelic/whatever with this kind of feel.. Basically thinking an opium den going along at it's languid pace despite the laser beams of the apocalpyse occasionally becoming visible through a few worn spots in the curtains covering the windows.´╗┐

the pharoaoh overlord side sounds like a bunch of noise, I bought this album for grails though and it's incredibly worth it. Ice Station Zebra is a top 5 grails song.
