Nude Beach at 285 Kent in 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro)
Nude Beach

As mentioned, Brooklyn's Nude Beach have a new 7" due out in July (stream both tracks below) and are currently on a tour that will culminate in a hometown show on July 5 at Knitting Factory with Prince Rupert's Drops and Pop Zeus. Tickets for that show are still available.

Not long after that show, Nude Beach will play another hometown show on July 17 at Death by Audio with a solid lineup of Nuclear Spring, The Red Dons, and Ylajali. Admission for that show is $8 at the door. Updated Nude Beach dates are listed below.

UPDATE: Nude Beach, it turns out, are NOT playing the DbA show after all (though it was listed on DbA's site).

Nuclear Spring

Brooklyn punks Nuclear Spring, who have past/present members of CREEM and Nomos, will be returning home from a European tour (pictured above) with CREEM for this show. Earlier this year, they put out a 7" on Hysteria Records, which contains 6 tracks of menacing punk in just over 10 minutes. Not unlike contemporaries White Lung or Neon Piss, Nuclear Spring's melodies and riffs pull more from post-punk, but they play with the speed and ferocity of hardcore. If you're into that kind of stuff, don't sleep on this. You can download the EP for free (legally) on MediaFire and stream two tracks below.

For Portland's The Red Dons (ex-The Observers), the Death by Audio show is the first date on their July East Coast tour. That tour also includes three NYC-area shows with NJ/Brooklyn surf punks Night Birds. The first of those is in New Brunswick on July 24 at Alamo with Loose Ends and Easy Rider; then Manhattan on July 25 at Cake Shop with Eric Davidson's (of New Bomb Turks) new band Livds and Brooklyn garage punks Foster Care; then Long Island on July 26 at No Fun Club with Iron Chic. The Red Dons are a pretty likeminded band to Nuclear Spring and Night Birds, and any of those shows should be a great way to see them. You can stream their most recent full length, 2010's Fake Meets Failure, in its entirety below, and download it for free at bandcamp. All of their dates are listed below too.

Night Birds

Meanwhile, you can catch Night Birds, whose new LP, Born to Die in Suburbia drops 7/9 via Grave Mistake, in NYC even sooner when they play a release show for the new album on July 12 at Death by Audio with Omegas, Don Giovanni-signed Nuclear Santa Claust (who also play with Iron Reagan and Dropead on Friday, 6/28), and Give, plus Chris Gethard is hosting. Night Birds also play Europa on August 29 with Zero Boys (tickets). Updated dates are listed, along with streams of two tracks from their LP, below.

Nightbirds July 13 - Asbury Lanes

i can't support night birds due to the fact the their singer support the bootleg 80's hardcore t-shirt mafia. think about where your money goes, gentlemen. it certainly doesn't go to those bands. for all we know, that bootleg void shirt is directly linked to the taliban. that shit ain't cool, dude.

2:29 = totally fucking hilarious

2:29am

Why do you think it's cool for people to make t-shirts of other bands and not give a cut of the profits to those bands in an age where people in these bands can EASILY be tracked down via Facebook when it's not cool?

E.g. A guy runs 50 (insert bandname) shirts, sells them, and makes $200 profit per shirt. He finds one member of this band on Facebook. Why not PayPal the member say $50? It ain't much but it's a nice gesture considering you're making money off his creation and you still walk away with $150 - not bad for emailing a design you didn't create for someone else to print the tees, collecting orders via PayPal, buying mailers online, packing them, and shipping them out in one shot via Stamps.com or one trip to the U.S. Post Office. Hypothetically you wouldn't even have to leave the house or do any physical labor besides pack the tees to sell the tees.

I meant to say he makes $4 profit per shirt for $200 total profit on the 50 shirts he makes.

Posted by D | June 25, 2013 8:56 AM

I made that VOID shirt myself. I made ONE. That's the only one that exists. The only shirt I ever bootlegged in mass quantities to sell for profit were "NAILIN PAILIN" shirts and they were a huge success!

Posted by brian gorsegner | June 25, 2013 9:33 AM

you still should have asked for permission. or maybe pay residuals every time you wear the shirt?

Posted by alex d | June 25, 2013 10:21 AM

THis is NOT a Fugazi T-ShirT!

Posted by Anonymous | June 25, 2013 12:38 PM

Here's my thing, Brian:

Make 1, 5, 10, 50, whatever you want, just find someone in the band on Facebook, ask them if it's cool if you could make tees of their band, negotiate a cut for the band, run up the tees, sell 'em, and PayPal the band's cut, is all I'm saying

That's not me saying you sold the tee you're wearing in the pic, that's just what I think should be done when making dead bands' tees.

i am 2:29. what part of my post made you think i thought it was cool to sell bootleg shirts? you make yourself seem as if you are the international voice of reason, when in fact, you're really just a goombah who doesn't even know who played guitar in void.

like i've said before : SHUT THE FUCK UP

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2013 1:13 AM

dont fuck w bubba

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2013 1:31 AM

This band reminds me of the house parties in college back in San Francisco. Tiny flats filled with sweaty drunk bodies. Good times.

Chalk another one up in the "Win" column for Tom Scharpling. Oh, and very cool song by Nude Beach.
