Under the blazing Nevada sun, Punk Rock Bowling festival went down in Las Vegas last week (May 24 - 27) featuring headlining appearances from names like The Damned, Devo, Bad Religion, Turbonegro, Flag, DRI, Subhumans and more. BV photographers Harriet Roberts and Keith Marlowe were there, the latter of whom commented on his experience:

The crowds were pretty sparse in the beginning of the days because lots of people were bowling, and the people that were there wisely took shelter under the tents in the back. Once night fell the place reached it's sold-out capacity. The headliners of the first night were Devo and the Damned. The Damned sounded great, but Devo really stole the show. They had an incredible video/light show and several costume changes.

Bad Religion and Turbonegro headlined the second night.  There was a ton of Turbojugend there, and they made their presence known with their jackets and sailor hats, and it seemed like the whole crowd was singing along when singer Tony Sylvester directed them on 'oh.oh.oh.....I Got Erection' to close out their set. A surprising amount of people left during Bad Religion's set, I think they were worried about the capacity of the clubs for the after shows, which we missed for just that reason.

The last night closed out with the Subhumans, DRI, and Flag. People seem to have an opinion about the various Flag reunions, but i decided hold off on mine until i saw how they were live, and those dudes came to play. People went craaaaaaaaazy. Holy shit. There were bodies everywhere. I hope the Black Flag band is this intense when I see them.

Pictures of those bands and more below...

Our culture's tolerance for aging punk rockers is at an all-time high.

I feel bad being 30 and at a show at the same venue I went to when I was a teenager, guess I probably shouldn't.

all of these people are embarrassing themselves.

So many photos of people I can't stand. Except the fat cop. I'm sure he's cool.

1:27- No. you shouldn't. Enjoy what you enjoy. Who cares?

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2013 2:14 PM

^yeah enjoy what you want. But if you're into this you might want to take a moment out and contemplate that your life choices have lead to this guy being your peer:

2:32 is mailing you all loose fitting khakis, and an Eagles greatest hits record.

Someone please explain Turbonegro to me. This is not a sarcastic comment, this is an actual request.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2013 2:49 PM

2:32 should take a moment out and contemplate run-on sentences, commas, and the use of prepositions.

Big LOL @ the scarves attempting to make people that don't share their scarf tastes in music ashamed of themselves. All because the scarves are ashamed of who they've become. They're ashamed, so they turn scarf to compensate, which in turn makes them more ashamed of themselves when/if they finally come to their senses. Vicious cycle.

I'd go and check if "irony" was used properly here, but I give zero fucks, since I'm no scarf.

Holy shit, the governor is singing for the damned.

Posted by Anonymous | June 4, 2013 3:07 PM

2:49 - they are a band with a sense of humor that rocks so hard that they amazingly don't come off as goofy.

That line was horrendous the first day. As soon as we walked up i broke away from the group to go get a 12pk of PBR! 45 minutes later we were in.

this is brilliant in ways many people will simply never understand. not the least of which, mathematically. the introduction cleverly disguises where the downbeat falls, fools me every time, and I've been listening to this song for decades, and have a degree in music. the best musical deconstruction of all time. also Jagger's favourite cover of this song, justly so, as it completely re-invents it, and turns it inside out.
