Jackson Heights’ The Beets established their love affair with professional wrestling with their first album, Spit On The Face Of People Who Don’t Want To Be Cool, the title of which was a reference to wrestler Carlito Colón. Singer Juan Wauters gets in the ring — with women, a la Andy Kaufman — himself in the video for his new solo single “Sanity” which was director by longtime Beets design associate, Matthew Volz. Official statement about the shoot:

We created a posting in search of girls willing to wrestle Juan for a video, we got one response and Juan ended up, accidentally, giving her a black eye. The other girls tried their best to pin him, and he tried his best to pin the girls. This video is a tribute to the art of wrestling, and to Andy Kaufman, but most of all it’s a tribute to your surroundings and how you create within them. Juan Wauters doesn’t make music from Queens, he makes Queens music. And this is what it looks like.

Juan will be on tour with San Francisco’s The Mantles next month, including both stops in NYC: Shea Stadium on July 9 and Cake Shop on July 13. All dates are listed, along with that video, below…
