A Guide to the 2013 Northside Festival (this week in Brooklyn w/ Walkmen, Solange, Torche, Black Flag, Swans & more)
The Walkmen @ T5, 2012 (more by Gretchen Robinette)
The 2013 Northside Festival kicks off on Thursday (6/13) in Williamsburg with the music portion running through Sunday (6/16), and the film festival going from June 17 – 20. Music badges ($80) are still available.
BrooklynVegan has two events at Northside this year: the Invisible Oranges showcase at 285 Kent on Friday (6/14) with Torche, KEN mode, Lo-Pan, and Inter Arma (tickets); and the A Band Called Death free screening at Williamsburg Cinemas on June 20 (RSVP).
Despite Northside happening at the same time as NXNE in Toronto and Bonnaroo in Tennessee, there are a lot of good shows this week as part of the fest. Thursday (6/13) shows include: Swans and Chelsea Wolfe at Warsaw; Iceage, A Place To Bury Strangers and Lower at 285 Kent; Mac Demarco and more at Brooklyn Bowl; Bleached at Knitting Factory; and Chad Valley, Kisses and more at Cameo.
Friday (6/14) showcases includes Greg Ginn’s Black Flag, The Men and more at Warsaw; Kylesa and more at MHOW; Sonny & the Sunsets and more at Knitting Factory; and Suuns and more at Glasslands.
Saturday’s showcases (6/15) include: the free show in McCarren Park with The Walkmen and Phosphorescent; Merchandise, Milk Music and more at 285 Kent; The Jazz Butcher and more at Spike Hill; and Chance the Rapper at Europa.
Sunday’s showcases (6/16) include the free McCarren Park show with Solange and more; The Soft Moon, Pop. 1280 and more at 285 Kent; and Nu Sensae, Destruction Unit and more at Shea Stadium.
You can peruse Northside’s full schedule for more. If you have a badge, just know it doesn’t guarantee entry. Get there early for shows you wanna see, especially the hot ones.
