The Northside Festival
As you probably know from reading this site, Northside Festival is underway in Williamsburg and Greenpoint. If you have a badge, you can use it to get in to any official Northside showcase but admission is based on capacity. If it’s a show you really want to go to, make sure to get there early, especially at smaller venues. All Northside showcases listed below are indicated as such in the event title.

Postal Service and Mates of State @ Barclays Center
After reissuing their sole album and playing Coachella loads of other places, The Postal Service are finally in NYC to play two shows at Barclays Center. The first of those is tonight with Mates of State. That one’s sold out but tickets to Saturday’s show with Ra Ra Riot are still available.

Black Flag, The Men & more @ Warsaw @ Northside
Its the moment that every punk in New York City has waited for, the return of Black Flag. And despite everyone’s differing opinion (like Mike Hill of Tombs’s), it is still a major event. Also, a little band called The Men open the show. NBD. Black Flag play again on Saturday (6/15) at Warsaw too.

Torche, Ken Mode, Lo-Pan, Inter Arma @ 285 Kent (Northside)
There is no band that can seemlessly blend doom thunder and bubblegum pop in wuite the same way that Floridians Torche can. InvisibleOranges is proud to send Torche back to their punk roots, putting the band in the notoriously DIY space 285 Kent, where they’ll team with metallic noisecore greats KEN Mode, blues-y Ohio doom favorites Lo-Pan, and the ever-incendiary Inter Arma. Let’s get ignorant.

Kylesa, Blood Ceremony, White Hills, Lazer/Wulf @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (Northside)
We hope you make it to our Invisible Oranges Northside showcase, but if that sort of crossover metal is your thing, you’d probably also like to check out Music Hall of Williamsburg, where Osiris is putting on a Northside show with shapeshifting sludge rockers Kylesa doom traditionlists Blood Ceremony fuzz/psych rockers White Hills, and Lazer/Wulf.

Iceage, Lust for Youth, Puce Mary, Age Coin, Lower @ Saint Vitus (Northside)
Surprise! Fresh off of last night’s performance at MHoW, Iceage and Lower have been added to Saint Vitus tonight, joining Lust for YouthPuce Mary and Loke Rahbek (of LfY/Var, who played solo at Nothing Changes) for the second of two Pitchfork showcases at the venue.

Son Volt @ Bowery Ballroom (Northside)
Alt-country vet Jay Farrar is mainly known for sad songs, but he kicks up some dust on Sun Volt‘s latest, Honky Tonk. Tickets are still available, and they’ll play Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday (6/15) as part of Northside.

Chrome Canyon, Computer Magic,Chateau Marmont @ Brooklyn Bowl (Northside)
It’s a fun synth-heavy bill tonight with the over-the-top spacerock of Chrome Canyon, winsome Brooklynite Computer Magic and the entertaining fromage of Parisians Chateau Marmont. Avan Lava will keep the party going between sets as DJs. Late show (doors 11:30 PM) and tickets are available.

The Hairs, Small Reactions, Gold Bears, Literature @ Cake Shop
Well here’s a super solid bill featuring two of the more entertaining, energetic bands in indiepop: Georgia’s Gold Bears and Philadelphia’s Literature. Small Reactions (also from Georgia) and locals The Hairs are fun too.

Suuns, Amen Dunes, Tempers @ Glasslands (Northside)
A sinister night is in store with a bill like this, headlined by Montreal’s sinuous Suuns and featuring dirgy Amen Dunes and sultry post-punk duo Tempers. Tickets are still available.

White Fence, PAWS @ Seaport Music Festival
White Fence, Las Rosas, Honey @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn (Northside)

White Fence, who played last night at Brooklyn Bowl, play two shows today. First they headline the free Seaport Music Fest with ’90s-loving openers PAWS; then they’ll play a late-night (doors 11 PM) Northside show at Knitting Factory with La Rosas and Honey (tickets).

Sonny & the Sunsets
sonny

Sonny and the Sunsets @ Knitting Factory Brooklyn (Northside)
If you were going to White Fence at Knitting Factory you might want to consider just spending the whole evening at the venue as the early show is good too. A vagabond charmer, Sonny Smith writes songs from the heart with just a smidge of self-depricating wit. He’s a great storyteller too, one of the best between-song banterers around. Tickets are still available.

Sinkane @ Brooklyn Bowl
Onetime Yeasayer member Ahmed Gallab — who has been all over New York City in 2013 — plays tunder his alter-ego Sinkane with an opening set from the talented, eclectic Xenia Rubinoos.

Vulture Shit & more @ Ran Tea House
Brooklyn guitar-less punks Vulture Shit are playing a hometown show tonight at Ran Tea House (269 Kent Ave) with The End Men, Stolen Girls, The Mad Doctors, and 45 Adapters.

Mavis Staples, Cody ChesnuTT @ Prospect Park
The free Celebrate! Brooklyn series at Prospect Park continues tonight with sets from Mavis Staples (who also plays Clearwater tomorrow) and Cody ChesnuTT (who played SOB’s last night).

The So So Glos, Shapes and Le Rug @ Public Assembly (Nothside)
Brooklyn natives, The So So Glos, who this year have a had a ton of great exposure with the release of their new LP, including a set set on Letterman, are heading back to their neighborhood to play a solid show with Shapes and amazing indie band, Le Rug (members of Butter The Children). The show is considered apart of a showcase for Brooklyn-based zine, 1.21 Gigawatts, and tickets are still available.

Har Mar Superstar, Supercute! & more @ The Grand Victory (Northside).
Entertaining goofball Har Mar Superstar will likely turn tiny Grand Victory into a sweaty party, given his ability to mimic ’80s R&B and funk… he can breakdance too. Also on the bill: Boxing Lesson, Purple, Spires, Supercute!, and The Young Things. Tickets to that show are still available.

Deer Tick @ The Stone Pony
Country rockers Deer Tick, still fresh off the first-ever Boston Calling festival, are playing The Stone Pony. Tickets to that show are still available.

Ian Isiah, Aquarian, Kuhrye-oo @ 285 Kent Avenue
Ian Isiah is bursting onto NYC’s urban/electronic scene with full force. The “Mindfuck” singer already has collabs with artists like Brenmar, Mykki Blanco and Le1f lined up and tonight he will be at 285 Kent for Northside Festival with the mysterious Aquarian and Grimes protege Kuhrye-oo.

Field Mouse, Phone Tag, Tropic of Pisces, Candide, Home Alone @ Muchmore’s (Northside)

Here’s a solid bill of local bands, headlined by terrific dream pop band Field Mouse. Have you seen their BV Sessions video?

The Beets, pow wow! & more @ Matchless (Northside)
Pow wow!‘s self-titled debut came out earlier this year and is one of 2013’s more unsung records, loaded with indie pop gems. They play with scrappy protopunks The Beets who don’t gig as much as they used to.

Rhys Chatham, Oneida @ Europa
Rhys Chatham is teaming up with his long time collaborators, Brooklyn based Oneida, tonight at Europa. Their last major appearance together in New York was back at 2012’s Ecstatic Music Festival, and their collaborations are always intense.

Peanut Butter Wolf, Cale Parks (DJ Set) @ Glasslands
What is a weekend-long music festival without the parties? If you’ve already been thrown out of both the Jameson and Heineken lounges by 11:30 PM tonight, maybe drink a few cups of coffee and head over to Popgun’s Northside Party at Glasslands. The night’s entertainment will come from a pair of veteran DJs, Peanut Butter Wolf and Cale Parks (who is [was?] also the singer of Ohio indie rock band Aloha).

White Mandingos @ New Museum
Alternative west coast rapper Murs has teamed up with Darryl Jennifer, bass player of hardcore legends Bad Brains, and Sacha Jenkins, formerly the music editor of VIBE. They call themselves The White Mandingos and they will be fusing their diverse skill sets at the New Museum tonight. This could be a crazy one.
