It was a rough week for Bushwick DIY venue Big Snow Buffalo Lodge. Though no statement was released, apparently there was a shooting at the club on Wednesday night (7/17). Whether it was inside or outside Big Snow is unclear, but someone, possibly a doorman, was rushed to the hospital and the night's show was canceled. The space, which opened back in 2011, had also recently suffered setbacks due to flooding.

UPDATE: Big Snow originally refused to give us any information for this post, but venue co-owner Yoni David has since confirmed in the comments of this post that he was the one shot. We wish him a full recovery soon!

We'll miss you, Big Snow.

Damn, really? I hope the doorman is well. It was always a pleasure to play this joint.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:00 PM

the doorman was an asshole, heard it was stray bullets coming from the projects down varet st towards bushwick

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:01 PM

Way to keep it classy, Anon 1:01. That "asshole" was there to keep your sorry ass safe. RIP Big Snow.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:15 PM

Great wings and tons of TVs for watching the game. Atlantic Mall will never be the same. RIP.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:19 PM

this sucks. these are nice people and putting on/playing shows here was always a pleasure.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:27 PM

It wasn't the doorman, it was Yoni, one of the owners. And the doorman helped him out. Not an asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:34 PM

Anon 1:01 It happened outside and the doorman is not an asshole. He will be okay. The Big Snow crew were all very nice. However your lack of compassion for human beings in general is probably only one of your many problems.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 1:39 PM

The doorman is one of the sweetest guys ever. He was always super helpful to the bands and helped get cabs for folks who needed them. This is a huge bummer, I'm gonna miss this space a lot.

As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto

And his mama cries
Cause if there's one thing that she don't need
It's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto

People, don't you understand
The child needs a helping hand
Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
Are we too blind to see,
Do we simply turn our heads

And look the other way
Well the world turns
And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

And his hunger burns
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal
And he learns how to fight
In the ghetto

Then one night in desperation
A young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
Tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
Face down on the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto

As her young man dies,
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin',
Another little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries

You can bring hummus to the hood but you can't gentrify the projects.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 6:05 PM

6:05 then how does that explain Goodbye Blue Monday?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 7:11 PM

This place is a great Brooklyn venue. I hope they can come back from this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 8:39 PM

Get well soon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 8:41 PM

Big thanks to Brooklyn vegan for spreading false news about my most horrific experience against my will and refusing to take it down so here's what you actually need to know for now..

Door guy wasn't shot. I was. I'm in the hospital and will be for a while. I'm humbled to know how much so many of you care and your support/positivity will bring me back to life. I'll love you all forever.

I'm also disgusted with Brooklyn vegan for putting up this article that pretty much admits they have no story even after we explicitly asked them not to. As if we don't have enough problems right now.

Fuck that. Pay no attention to them. It's pathetic and really just pretty rude. Watch out for the Village Voice article set to come out this week where the journalist actually took the time to come interview me and do his job without treating my life like a joke.

Again, thank you for being so supportive.

Sincerely,

Y

what he said

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:05 PM

Is 9:40 an epic troll?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:08 PM

Yoni,

We hope you make a full recovery soon and we're really sorry about what happened to you and your venue, and that you don't like our post.

That said, We don't believe this post has any "false news". The original post did just say "doorman" which was the rumor, but that was quickly updated to say "possibly a doorman" soon after it went live.

We also reached out to Big Show for information or a statement before we did this article and you wouldn't tell us anything, so the accusation that we didn't "take the time" is also false. If we hadn't reached out we would have done this post on Friday instead of Sunday. The motivation for the post was your own Tweet confirming the closing of the venue.

Regarding the idea that we "have no story"... well, we do actually believe that you ran a great venue and that acknowledging its closing and subsequent show cancellations is a story, and we would think that even if the closing wasn't due to such a horrible incident.

Posted by brooklynvegan | July 21, 2013 10:18 PM

9:40 is not an epic troll.
He is an important and loved person who has been integral in the function of this venue during its life.
Don't be an ignorant fuck.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:21 PM

The meds must be really kicking in, 9:40pm. All BV said was that someone was shot and that the venue is closing. They are making no effort to hide the fact that they don't know whether it happened inside, outside, to the bouncer, or to whomever. The blurb is about the closure of the venue, not you. Because nobody actually cares about you enough to get the full story beyond "someone was shot." So take your ego trip and your hurt feelings and get well soon.

And why the fucking diatribe from your hospital bed? Chillax. Nobody gives a fuck about your precious hipster white ass. I bet you cannot wait to go out and get that really cool bullet tattoo so when people ask the significance you can go on and on about how you were shot and how brave and amazing you are and blah blah blah blah.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:22 PM

I side with BV in this one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:23 PM

"He is an important and loved person who has been integral in the function of this venue during its life."

Sounds like these Big Snow people really have some big egos.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:26 PM

there goes the neighborhood

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:27 PM

"the Village Voice article set to come out this week where the journalist actually took the time to come interview me and do his job without treating my life like a joke."

Yeah, can't wait. Because you're so precious. We're all at the edge of our toilets in anticipation for this great voice article.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:30 PM

Brooklyn Vegan is not a news site. They post shows that are happening in NYC area. Go to the NY Times web site for proper info.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:36 PM

You people are fucking terrible. The guy got shot and all you can do is mock him?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:41 PM

I was always shocked how these underground venues never got robbed. They have no real security at the door. They're mostly a cash business. And they are not exactly legal. So there is a chance they might not call the police due to fear of being reported if the are robbed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:41 PM

i think we should all consider what it must feel like to 1. be shot, 2. lose a huge part of your life/your home that you've built from the ground up, in an instant. have a little empathy people. yoni is a phenomenal, caring, incredibly intelligent and special human being. show some respect for what he's going through right now.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:47 PM

10:22, since you have the nerve to call him a precious white hipster when you don't even know anything about him or what he's go

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:49 PM

Seriously, some of the comments here are unbelievable. I'm sure 10:22 and 10:30 that if something like this had happened to you or someone you knew, you'd calm the fuck down with your crass insults. You're making of fun of someone who was innocently hurt? Why, cause you think your sentences are so groundbreaking that it will help your secret writing aspirations? WTF.

This is an upsetting and unfortunate incident all around. But go ahead, just keep on partying... I'm sure your futures will be just peachy with great attitudes like that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:51 PM

This is/was a good venue. They treated artists well. And have great sound. Good booking. Best wishes/ Get well soon brother. Never mind the haters.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:51 PM

this yoni dude sounds like a whiny little bitch

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:53 PM

10:22....come back to us after a stray bullet hits you and let us know how that feels....poor out your sorrows all over the internet so we can call you a "precious white hipster"....the fucking NERVE of some people.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:54 PM

Hey, lets face it. Gentrification doesn't always work.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:55 PM

long live big snow RIP

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:57 PM

10:22. Please tell me who you are so you can repeat those things to me in person. Obviously you aren't going to tell me who you are because you're the kind of sad coward that has to insult injured people on the Internet. You and everyone else knows that I you had the balls to say that kind of stuff in person you'd get your ass beat. So be carefull. I hope you're not that bold in real life. Actually don't tell me who you are. You're too sad to be paid any mind by anyone and I feel sorry for you instead of the person in that hospital bed. How does it feel to be that pathetic?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:57 PM

10:22 is a sad individual. I feel more sorry for him then the guy who got shot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:59 PM

10:57 sounds super tough.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 10:59 PM

yoni & co come off like a bunch of creeps

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:02 PM

Oh, no. Was a white kid hurt in a bad neighborhood where black and hispanics get this type of treatment all of the time? Oh, no. Will this white guy be alright. Let's make sure that the record is straight on this one guys. It's a white hipster guy. We really need to know he's alright. This is very important.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:03 PM

Brooklyn vegan sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:03 PM

Big Snow was amazing. Fuck the trolls.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:04 PM

Doesn't seem like BV did anything wrong here. Hope Yoni gets well soon, avoids making any further comments while he's drugged up.

Posted by Dylan | July 21, 2013 11:05 PM

A person got shot. That's not funny anyway you cut it. Lets not be total dicks about this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:06 PM

Big snow was amazing and I'm disgusted by his website. We shouldn't be allowed to make comments on these articles as that's how you know that this is a bullshit website. Take down all these horrible comments I'm sure this guy is going thru enough as it is.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:08 PM

A hipster got shot in Bushwick? WHOOP-DEE-FRICKIN-DOO!

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:15 PM

I'm going to pray for everyone in this thread who's treating this as a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:21 PM

* as long as brooklyn vegan has no monitoring of the comments it will continue to be a cesspool of non information. wishing yoni a speedy recovery and sorry that an area exists for uninformed anonymous internet addicted bored to death trolls to comment on this at all.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:21 PM

Wow-- this is shaping up to be one of the biggest things to happen on BV! So much emotion and anger.
July 21, 2013: the day it got real on BV.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:22 PM

This thread perfectly showcases exactly why people hate Brooklyn hipsters. Have some fucking empathy and imagine if it was your friend who got shot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:24 PM

No one looks at comment pages for proper info on anything. It's just a bunch of wankers. When Bradley Manning got arrested I didn't come to BV to find out the 411 on what's happening. And I didn't check the comments pages to find out either.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:27 PM

My friend told me Nico Jaar was at the shooting wtf

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:28 PM

Who would of thought a shooting would happen in BUSHWICK BROOKLYN? It doesn't add up.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:32 PM

correction, it is closed for bad.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:32 PM

Was a Rap group playing that night?

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:35 PM

Brooklyn vegan can suck my dick. MONITOR THAT.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:35 PM

Well we know it wasn't a hipster that did it, they can't even get a steady job let alone fire a gun.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:42 PM

Brooklyn Vegan, fucking get rid of the comment section on your site. This is disgusting, most of the people who post on here are trolls spewing vile, awful words. What's the point? Your comment section is full of hate and ad hominem attacks. Sure, you aren't explicitly condoning this kind of behavior, but by not finding a way to eliminate it, you sort of are. And I don't give a fuck about the mentality, "It's just the Internet, don't get so butthurt!" Cyberbullying is fucking up kids' self-esteem potentially for the rest of their lives. I'm sure you've all read the articles. If the intention of the comment section is to create thoughtful dialogue, it's not working. So fix it. Post the news, and let people talk about it face-to-face where they can be held accountable for their words.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:46 PM

You guys should have a twitter feed where people can say this stuff. Not here. Important people do come here to find out how they should think about things.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2013 11:54 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:04 AM

omg 11:54 might be the maddest person ever on BV. SO MAD. Soooooo mad.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:07 AM

Hey all of you negative commenters,

Seriously, have some fucking compassion. This is an innocent person caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. I bet if you were in this situation, you would want a little compassion too. It's so sad that people are going to go ahead and blame this on being white, hipster, and in Bushwick. Oh, so I guess everyone in Bushiwick has a target on their back? Fuck off you insensitive excuses for human beings. No one asks for this sort of incident, nor is there anyway to truly prevent it. To blame the person who was hurt is both atrocious and inexcusable. You disgust me. You're talking about a real fucking person with feelings. And he's an amazingly good person at that, who's not asking for anything but an accurate portrayal of events that occurred. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. I wouldn't wish this situation on my worst enemies, let alone the amazing people who have contributed to making Big Snow one of the best DIY venues in Brooklyn. Check yourself before you start spewing ignorant bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:16 AM

@11:46 Republicans love using the term ad hominem attacks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:16 AM

"we need censorship when it hurts our liberal, white feelings!"

don't think talking shit about a person who got shot has anything to do with being liberal or white. also, don't cry "don't censor me" when you're not even willing to say who the "me" is. if the information that you're saying is really worth crying "censorship" over, why not attach your name to it? go write a blogpost and sign it! no? is it because it's mindless? or is it because in the brooklyn vegan comment section, you can be a hatemonger?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:18 AM

I like how all of these trolls think their mean opinions matter. Keep taking adderall, people, it's bringing out the best in you. No, really... you look great.

On other topics, Big Snow was a great venue in many ways, and like many other small businesses and organizations, it existed because of alot of hard work and dedication. They did a great job running it, and really cared about the bands and people who showed up, every week. Something alot of the commenters here obviously know nothing about.

Your jokes aren't just in poor taste, but they are so mediocre I'm yawning. Please, alert the media when you can do something besides cut other people down. We're all on the edge of our toilets for you to shut the fuck up.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:18 AM

11:54, I know what you mean. I liked Surfer Blood until I saw post that someone wrote about a friend of the guitarist in band. It said he might have voted for Romney. It was over for me.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:18 AM

This is the comment thread Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:19 AM

this article and all of the comments should come down. look at all of this negativity brought onto such a tough situation. big snow will be well remembered as a supportive place for artists of all kinds.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:20 AM

If you've ever typed 'ad hominem' on the internet you're almost certainly a raging asshole.

FACT

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:20 AM

Poor judgment on the part of BV for propelling rumors and ignoring the fact that the incident leading to the closure of Big Snow is still incredibly fresh and incredibly sensitive. BV should have shared the tweet and skipped the speculations. My heart goes out to the staff of Big Snow,. My sincerest sympathies for having to deal with bullshit media/blogoshpere politics on top of real world trauma.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:23 AM

There's nothing wrong with this article. BV commenters frequently suck, though it's hard to blame them for jumping on Yoni's weirdly aggressive post.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:23 AM

the more hits to the site, more $$$$ from Red Bull. they'll keep the post up

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:24 AM

This is all so crazy. From all reports, it was a fucking bloody mess. How can we be so hateful when the dude got shot?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:26 AM

I agree with 12:23... it's also nobody's fucking business. Leave the poor guy alone. Nobody knows the circumstances here and should just chill the fuck out.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:28 AM

12:18 I like the comments too. They are great. Important. Big Snow was great. I'm going to miss it until another place in Brooklyn opens up. The jokes are not funny. I agree.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:28 AM

Yet another "DIY venue" which never had an all ages hardcore punk show.

Two words for this place:

WHO CARES?

i don't understand why Brooklyn vegan doesn't send out a team of reporters to get this story right? Their new staff probably only has 10 to 15 reporters. But let's get real they did have a couple of days to get the story right.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:36 AM

Have you ever seen that movie the comedy with the guy from Tim and eric? This comment section are those characters brought to life. No emotion, no empathy, no compassion. If I ever get like this, just shoot me in the face.

People don't think about what they write. They just write whatever. And they don't know what they are writing about. The should think before they write instead of wasting peoples time. People read this and they want to know what's going on. They don't want to read something and have their time wasted. I'm reading what people wrote and I'm thinking that they are just wasting my time. Are you reading into this. Write what you think if you have the time, but please don't waste mine.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 1:23 AM

First time i've ever commented on a blog, shame I had to pop my cherry in this cesspool. Big snow was home, these guys are family. The anonymous hate blows my mind. My friend - "the whiny bitch", "the white hipster guy" - almost died last week doing his job, trying to provide you ungrateful fucking cunts a place to go see great new musicians and artists in a chill and friendly environment almost every night of the week. In a second he lost almost everything he's worked for for years. BV is a joke, this thread is disgusting.

Brooklyn Vegan sucked anyway-

Posted by katie holliday | July 22, 2013 3:48 AM

damn this sucks. Big Snow Buffalo Lodge was a good Venue. I used to be part owner in a venue Xpo 929 that got closed because my business partner Johnny Aquadora was stealing all our money and spending it on drugs and male hookers instead of the rent and bills. I used to think I was unlucky for losing everything to such a douchebag. Now I am just glad I didn't get shot.

Get well Yoni

Posted by Bones Howell | July 22, 2013 4:15 AM

RIP brooklynvegan

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 4:27 AM

You wish RIP, this place is not going anywhere. Just to keep you dudes up to snuff. There was more rantings from Yoni on his facebook page later. Here is what he said:

"Maybe the writers at Brooklyn vegan will see this and realize how accurate news actually reaches people rather than their disrespectful, unprofessional propaganda. Brooklyn vegan's justification for doing this to me was 'we're a music blog.' The worst reason in the world. Write about music not my personal life which you clearly know nothing about.

Let me just say this once more...if you fancy yourself a journalist, don't put a story out until you've got a story because these shitheads look like absolute retards aside from looking like insensitive jerkoffs. It would have been as easy as asking me what happened but they don't give a shit about anything but their stupid blog which (let's be real) is a fucking joke anyway.

I've never been so offended in my life. Let alone publicly humiliated and now I'll never support Brooklyn vegan. They're heartless. On the other hand, you guys have been wonderful to me and I appreciate that more than you know. So this is me checking in from the hospital saying you guys are beautiful. I love you all to death. I've been so overwhelmed with support and love and I owe you my life for it. Ultimately what's most important is that no body else was hurt. Things could have been much much worse and I'm thankful that all of the people who came and supported big snow while it was up were safe. I'd take 100 bullets for you guys if I knew you'd leave unharmed because there is nothing in the world that's more important to me than what we've got going on in this city. We've built the most beautiful co-dependent community that needs to be recognized with respect and that's why this stings so much. The fact that a publication like Brooklyn vegan wouldn't take that into account goes to show you who's really contributing to this community.

Thanks again everyone. I'll be seeing you around. I love you all very much.

-Y"

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 5:24 AM

This guy Yoni needs to calm down. Not sure what he is so offended by from the original post. They reported what the venue put out there. That they were closing for good. They tried to get an official response and when they could not they printed what they heard. Clearly implying they were not sure of the details. They have also supported Big Snow since it's opening.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 7:39 AM

By reporting poorly on a life altering tragedy, failing to do due diligence, failing to show enough decency to disable vicious and fucked up comments, and then responding to legitimate criticisms with defensive snark, Brooklyn Vegan has ruined its own reputation permanently.

I am certainly not visiting this site again, and I'm certain none of my friends who actually do the work to make the Brooklyn music scene what it is will do so either. Pretty sure that everyone who learned about this situation and read this thread will be quite happy to refuse to give comment to Brooklyn Vegan from now on when events in the neighborhood are happening.

Posted by Henry | July 22, 2013 7:56 AM

The comments section is for uncouth losers w extremely ltd social lives. The kind of creeps that get audibly uppity if you slide in front of them at a concert because they dont know how to behave outdoors IRL.

Brooklynvegan is the place where unattractive low-ambition single white dudes can digitally high-five each other for being ill-adjusted. And this post's dumbshit smug half-apology encourages it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 7:59 AM

All these super evolved liberal kids would make great fascists.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 8:27 AM

Who here voted for Obama in 2012?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 8:39 AM

8:18, you're a dick.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 8:46 AM

I don't even know the guy, but I know he was shot and most of you weren't.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 8:55 AM

No, 8:18 is totally correct. You don't get to decide what stories are run and when. That is not how the free press works. BV did nothing wrong.

To Henry @7:58, please drop dead you holier than thou jackass. Here is a reality check for you. BV has not had anything ruined. They are here and will still be here at the same level they always have been and growing i'm sure. So take those pronouncements about what you and your so called Brooklyn music scene friends are going to do and shove it right up your ass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 8:56 AM

This Yoni dude is the new Tupac!

8:18....thanks for the pic! can we see what YOU look like? show your fucking face you ass hole and stop hiding behind the monitor.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 9:03 AM

Don't you just love that for all their bullshit liberal arts piety, this tubby beardo and his friends have no use for freedom of the press.

Perfect irony.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 9:05 AM

I haven't posted anything in this chain yet. I made this post on Facebook and someone else brought it here. Nice to see that the insensitivity is spreading among your readers.

Nonetheless you did receive a response from us explicitly asking you not to post this so that we could announce it ourselves. This is a very personal matter and its quite offensive to see it blow up like this here after we asked you not to do it. The fact that you wouldn't take our feelings into account in this situation is heartbreaking to me as we've done everything we can to contribute to this community and I thought the minimal amount of respect it would have taken to do this the right way would have been granted without question.

Either way, say what you will. I'm glad we were able contribute for a while and more than anything I'm glad that everyone else is safe. That's what's most important.

All the best,

Y

Posted by Yoni David | July 22, 2013 9:49 AM

"This is a very personal matter."

Elliot Spitzer and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's family said the exact same thing.

It's the first amendment. You don't get to decide what stories are run and when. That is not how the free press works. BV did nothing wrong. (copied from 8:56)

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 9:57 AM

-every politician these kids somehow think they're different from.

8:27 nailed it. Closet fascists.

lol i left a comment about how brooklynvegan's heinous half-apology and creepy mal-adjusted single white male commenters SUCK and BV didn't approve the post! way to crumble under the slightest and most deserved criticism. LOSERS!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:10 AM

people are shocked by the BV comments? have you all never been here before?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:13 AM

My lad Yoni. Damn there's lots of negativity radiating off of this negative situation. Well, you know what they say about Electrons -- they hold a negative charge and DO WORK. Big Snow will find a way to keep living. It will keep being great. and D @ 12:31, i'll see you in the pit you little poo poo. The Acheron? Tonight? I'll be the one swinging my weiner in circles.

Posted by James A.B.C. | July 22, 2013 10:15 AM

Anything posted on a twitter for the world to see is public news, bro.

I don't fault BV for posting it. Though perhaps the commenters are enjoying rustling your jimmies a little too much for whats reasonable in this context. You're just fanning the flames posting here though. "MUH FEELS".

Get well soon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:15 AM

WHAT IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM?

BV reports on the closing of a venue that they have supported all along. in fact, the first time I heard of Big Snow was: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2011/11/big_snow_buffal.html

I don't understand how anyone was wronged here? I also don't see many insensitive comments, mostly people genuinely bummed about it closing

Why is Yoni upset? Because they didn't have the chance to make an official statement first? I really don't get it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:23 AM

Yoni is not dead. You're an asshole. Please kill yourself.

Posted by Chris | July 22, 2013 10:26 AM

I would suspect Yoni is angry because a website posted a bunch of half-baked twitter rumors as a news story, and did so without bothering to confirm the facts and to get consent.

Please keep that shit on twitter- where it belongs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:33 AM

@10:23 -- Big Snow was obviously wronged because they weren't able to fully control the reporting of the incident. In a perfect world, everyone should be able to sign off on news pertaining to them ahead of time. In the future, I think we should let people write articles about themselves at their own convenience. Then the real "truth" would shine through.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:34 AM

HOLY fucking shit, is this where every loser in NY comes to leave their poorly articulated piece of mind? Or maybe I'm just a sucker reading garbage typed from the fap stations of low-life, ignorant 15 year-olds? This thread is THE LAMEST piece of shit I've seen in a LONG time and its amusing to see how 'edgy' and clever a lot of you think you are; you can tell by the way you write. Just remember you're in a comment war... a fucking comment war, on a website called Brooklyn Vegan - which makes every last one of you an absolute, complete hipster douche. Even I'm a douche for taking the time to write this, but I couldn't help myself. But hey, keep on being make-believe adults and have fun.

Also, wishing a speedy recovery to the dude that got SHOT... thats up at the top of EVERYONES list of 'worst things that can happen to you' and you all know it, so if you're gonna snark about it do us all a favor and get fucked you low self-esteem prick. Thanks.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:34 AM

So many hipster dousches are going to get their asses kicked when Yoni gets out of the hospital. Can't wait.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:37 AM

BV is allowed to post whatever the fuck he wants. the only thing he got wrong was who was shot, and it's corrected above. i don't know why Yanni is so upset. maybe he thought he and BV were bros. most likely, though, he's pissed about getting shot and losing his venue and taking it out on BV. sort of understandable if you take the whole thing in perspective.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:37 AM

I think I speak for the commenting community as a whole as I thank 10:34 for the excessive use of all-caps. I, for one, have trouble figuring out where the proper emphasis should go when reading prose, so thank you for making it so easy on us. I'm VERY glad you did that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:37 AM

"Why is Yoni upset?"

because he got fucking shot and doesn't want a BV thread with 100+ comments shit talking him! and look at BV's response - passive-aggressive garbage, treating their piss-poor "coverage" of this event like it has any importance other than bringing out the trolls.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:50 AM

"He is not dead but he is in a coma. Please pray for him and his family."

Wow. He typed an angry message while in a coma? That IS amazing

I liked Boneless Thursdays. The boneless ones were only $.25 each! And if your game wasn't on one of the DOZENS of TVs they'd put it on for you, no problem. I guess I'll have to eat at the Applebees now?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 11:04 AM

Had anyone even eaten at the Applebees at Atlantic Mall? Can't imagine it meets the quality and ambiance of Big Snow Buffalo Lodge. Or the 22oz drafts!

10:23 I'll go out on a limb and guess $. Insurance reasons maybe?

Big man should lay off the pita bread.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 11:56 AM

i think the negativity of these comments is going to lead to some sort of hipster black hole, everything is just going to get sucked right into the center like a vacuum catheter and then there won't be anymore brooklynvegan and DIY venues will spring up like fortune cookie geysers

Posted by Adam | July 22, 2013 12:19 PM

Wow. You're all going to lower yourselves to blaming the victim in this situation? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Yoni's not looking for sympathy, he just wanted the chance to speak his truth before some sad excuse for a music blog goes spewing lies. Sure, they have the right to free press. But, what's everyone else's excuse for being insensitive assholes? Do you feel like a big tough guy after hating on someone who's lying in a hospital bed as we type all of this garbage? I hope someone kicks you when you're down someday. I bet you'll feel like shit too.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:47 PM

There is something VERY fishy about how Yoni is handling this. Why the veil of secrecy? Maybe 11:10 is right and it has to do w/ $. Either way it's hard to have sympathy for a guy who is behaving like such a creep.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 12:57 PM

Question is: is this really news? Is BV a news site?

Let's face it, someone getting shot in the ghetto is not really news. Bushwick is GHETTO.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 1:04 PM

@12:57 sounds like he was slingin' that crack rock. best step off, nutlicker.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 1:19 PM

@12:47 -

No one at BV (not including commenters) is kicking Yoni while he's down at all. They posted a sympathetic article about the sad demise of his venue. They didn't "spew lies". That's ridiculous. Did they say he got shot because he was dealing drugs at the venue and it went wrong? Or that the door man was shot because he saw Yoni dealing drugs and called the cops and Yoni shot him? Nothing of the sort.

I'm not excusing the creepwad comments by a lot of the people on here, but the original article did nothing wrong/weird whatsoever. They got a detail wrong which they corrected quickly. I'm sorry Yoni got shot, but I'm hoping this is PTSD on his part, cause otherwise, pretty damn weird.

^More like the victory of Brooklyn Vegan

Quote from the Village Voice article speaking about Yoni

"One of the lease-holders and the doorman of the nearly two-year-old venue"

So apparently, BV was right all along. The doorman of the place got shot. He also happened to be one of the owners

Fuck you all.

@1:27, credible news source you cite? More like a blog no one except a handful of people look at. Good one.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 1:49 PM

this could really drive down the price of hummus in bushwick...

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 1:52 PM

@1:27 -- oh nice, a link to the shitty blog maintained by the NYU graduate school of journalism AKA where people that couldn't get into Columbia or Northwestern go

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 1:56 PM

Just read the Village Voice article. The writer clearly knows Yoni (why else would he have been on the scene), and may even be friends with him.

So when Yoni gets defensive and posts "Watch out for the Village Voice article set to come out this week where the journalist actually took the time to come interview me and do his job" he means "Watch out for the totally biased Village Voice article that my friend wrote"

And I think it goes without saying, this chain would've never happened had he let sleeping dogs lie. And as 1:49 points out, there weren't even factual inaccuracies.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:01 PM

i don't understand why they're closing...it's not like the area has ever been THAT safe, this shit could happen anywhere, anytime. It's not like Bushwick violence is on the uptick, nor is it going to cause anyone to leave.

So why close because of a freak accident?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:01 PM

It's a total cop-out to close the place down, as well as a slap in the face of any of the local bushwick folks who've been living nearby for years already.

Young kids gettin' scared, runnin' outta town because of a bit of the ol' ultraviolence.

Kickstarter to re-open Big Snow inside the safe, gated community of Manhattan

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:13 PM

From an outsider perspective and reading both accounts by BrooklynVegan and the Village Voice, I don't think BV necessarily did anything wrong by posting about the closure of the venue based on what few facts were available. It sounds like Mr. Davis wanted the news to come out under his own terms, tho. The Village Voice article was obviously written by an acquaintance of his who was able to add some substance behind the report, but I don't think any of it shed any more light on what BrooklynVegan reported.

Interesting to me is that Mr. Davis is just 24 years old. He's really just a kid, guys, so cut him some slack if he's caught somewhere between acting like a complete professional and still not having the ability to use his filter.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:16 PM

exactly, a young kid gets a reality check about the side-effects of gentrification and runs away scared to mommy.

Posted by anon | July 22, 2013 2:25 PM

Seems to me out-of-towners don't have a real sense of the dangers that lurk RIGHT IN THEIR FACES. I haven't had a reason to go near Bushwick in a few years, but growing up in NYC, it (along with the rest of East NY), was a notorious part of the city where, yes, you'd get mugged and/or shot. Whites haven't been welcomed there since they fled in the 50s. Twentsomethings show up there today, from what I could gather, and somehow through entitlement or their "edginess" think they transcend that inherent violence. This kid got shot BY ACCIDENT and that obviously sucks for him. If these kids are truly the pioneers-men they apparently fashion themselves as, then why leave, close up shop? Fact is, maybe they're smarter than others think. Truth is, everyone seems to think the East Village is now sanitary, family friendly, safe, etc., etc. It's REALLY not.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:29 PM

I will miss this venue. I usually rate DIY venues by how much good pussy I can scoop out from there. Most are pretty easy cause the guys who frequent them a lot are deadbeats with no income. If you actually have money these girls drop their pants in a flash. A dinner out other than at Mickey D's or some fleabag hipster spot is very welcome

So on that rating scale Big Snow was up there. I fucked a good number of hot hipster girls that I met there.

More vindication for BV

http://mysocialist.com/blog/2013/07/22/big-snow-brooklyn-vegan-and-the-internet/

From above article:

"I spoke with Yoni, and he seems to acknowledge now that the whole thing is a big misunderstanding. Apparently, his partner had reached out to Brooklyn Vegan to prevent them from posting the story"

"He added that Brooklyn Vegan has been good to them in a past and he now realizes that they didn’t see their response in time, so things got a bit hazy"

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:46 PM

What I want to know is
1) Was he the only one at this place?
2) Why did he get shot?
3) What was taken away from the place?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:51 PM

Seems like Yoni & Co. handled things really well. Instead of garnering sympathy, they acted like petulant d-bags and spurred this comment section into a disaster zone. Well done.

They say there's no such thing as bad press. That may be true, but good/sympathetic press is better than bad, and these morons voluntarily flipped the switch.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 2:52 PM

BV, you're great.

BV commenters and trolls, you are the scum of the earth. Enjoy your miserable, pathetic and sexless existence.

213pm. I can't wait to hear about Kickstarter for this venue...

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:03 PM

This isn't just BV commenters, it's real people that have gone to shows there. We are glad this place is gone-- gentrification is a bitch and Yoni has a needledick.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:04 PM

3:04pm, I'm offended you ran the news that Yoni has a needledick before the Village Voice was able to confirm it in their feature later today.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:08 PM

I think just for the commenters alone, BV should be viewed as analogous to toxic waste. What kind of community have they cultivated?

Posted by Fred | July 22, 2013 3:08 PM

2:38 - Game recognize game. Where's your no. 1 spot?

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:08 PM

I love when people cite the "BV commenters and trolls" as if they were a special singular community. Wake up you fucking morons. They are YOU. The people around you, your friends, people you see at shows, work etc. It just seems different than anywhere else on the internet because it is an open unchecked forum.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:09 PM

I don't understand why all these vigilante commenters that denounce trolling assume that all trolls don't get ass.

Straight up, I slay ass. I get my dicked suck, lick pussy/ass and fuck chicks regularly. Not sure why the haters gotta bring sex into it, but any sort of blanket insult about a "lack of action" sounds like they're projecting to me. YOU go enjoy your sexless existence, BV vigilante!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:11 PM

some tubby beardo and his butt boy friends are calling other people sexless.

hilarious.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:16 PM

I have to admit that I've only seen a couple shows there, but it seemed like a great space with a really cool vibe with people that really cared about what they were doing. You get that same general vibe at Death By Audio or Silent Barn or Shea Stadium or Secret Project Robot which is why I like these types of spaces.

With that being said, I could see the same thing happening in front of any one of them, including Death By Audio (I see some pretty shady shit by the East River sometimes). Now I know that a really terrible thing just happened and the people who run it are understandably very emotional. But how does it help the scene that you've worked so hard to cultivate by closing up shop after one incident? The way I'm looking at it, closing the venue moreso than anything would seem to stoke fear into the minds of other people in the area who run similar spaces. Silent Barn is RIGHT down the road, you know? What type of message does this send them?

I'm not saying that I have the definitive answer as to what should or shouldn't ultimately be done, but I feel like closing the venue outright is a kneejerk reaction that needs to be thought through more thoroughly. As it stands now, it only makes people everywhere in the area think twice before going out to these places, and that's not a good thing at all.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:27 PM

...And with that, Brooklyn Vegan was boycotted by the entire DIY music scene of Brooklyn.

Because we all realized that this website which has tried to support a community has become an anti-community. The worst filth of music come here to avoid their own depressing lives by tearing down other people who are actually out there and doing stuff in the world.

You know, there's plenty of people who aren't horrible narcissistic assholes like yourself. And stop calling other people hipsters. You read Brooklyn Vegan, you're a hipster too dumbshits.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:29 PM

"the entire DIY music scene of Brooklyn" AKA Anonymous at 3:29 PM. You and what army, bro?

^him and a dozen other broke 24 year olds whose parents will be paying for them to go back to school in a few years. THAT"S WHO!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:35 PM

Just to pile on to the moron 3:29. I need you to understand what a dipshit you are thinking that a blog with this large a readership is only hipsters.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:42 PM

3:27pm, the decision to close seems like an emotional reaction to the event in having a negative incident embedded into the space and bad memories for the owner. Now, that's the published reason, but I also would not be surprised if the closure was also an instant financial blow to the owner if he lived without health insurance or a day job that allowed him to pay the bills and save something on the side. If he doesn't have health insurance, then you can bet treatment for a gunshot wound and having to be held at the hospital for several days is going to rack up a huge chunk of debt quickly which will make it difficult for him to carry on a DIY venue in which the bands get paid but he or his partners do not.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:54 PM

He is at Bellevue. I can almost say with certainty he does not have health insurance. He should feel lucky they didn't remove his balls accidentally

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 3:56 PM

Someone was shot. Stop making snarky quips. This article isn't about your taste. It isn't about gentrification. It isn't about "hipsters." Please show some common human decency.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 4:14 PM

he got shot in the fuckin arm and he's fine.

shut up about "decency"

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 4:16 PM

Have you been "shot in the fuckin' arm?" It's not exactly equivalent to stubbing your toe. I don't care where someone was shot or who got shot. Someone getting hurt as a result of a violent act, whether it be directly or indirectly is unfortunate and unacceptable.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 4:19 PM

3:54 If it was really true that the main reason for closing down would be the financial implications arising from being shot in the abdomen, then they should still explore their options. From what I've read, there are three other partners involved with running Big Snow. Keep things running in some form or fashion as a tribute to Yoni. Throw a benefit show or something similar. It may not put a dent in his medical bills, but at the very least it would be a show of solidarity and in turn project a little perseverance.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 4:31 PM

I can confirm that
1. Yoni has health insurance.
2. There will be no kickstarter to reopen the venue.
3. The decision not to continue was due to a culmination of many factors, including the giant residential building next door that is scheduled to open in the fall.
4. Yoni is not your idea of an idiot hipster douche. He is from NY, he is middle-eastern -not white, and he would have taken a bullet for you.
5. It should have been you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 4:35 PM

Oh thankfully and finally an anon source is here @4:35 to confirm things.

Any chance you want to confirm anything else while you are around?

"3. The decision not to continue was due to a culmination of many factors, including the giant residential building next door that is scheduled to open in the fall."

If there are other factors involved, that's fine. Those aren't my decisions to make, and I don't personally know what goes into making something like this happen. But what I do think is important here is to have a little transparency as to exactly why Big Snow is closing down besides presenting it completely under the guise of Yoni getting shot. But maybe it was too soon for all of that.

Anyone who is butt hurt by anon comments on a douchey music blog needs to go to Bellevue and get their head checked.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 5:33 PM

It's real easy to leave a cynical, heartless, cold & arrogant comment when your posting anonymously. The Internet is notorious for everyone having to put their two cents in whether they having anything worth saying or not. If you can only be identified by a time stamp then what better opportunity to diminish the value of life of an individual you've never met then to leave a smart ass comment on a blog page. SMH

Yoni, I'm so glad you're going to be alright. Much love <3

Is everyone on crazy pills? Once the cops get called to a DIY venue that serves alcohol without any proper licensing, they're probably going to be shut down anyway. Closing down was probably an unfortunate decision that they would have had to make despite any other emotional factors. Let's remember Big Snow as the awesome venue it was and hope for another space that will carry on it's supportive community.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 6:00 PM

That's it! From now on we must sign our names. I will begin.

Posted by Vinny's Pie in the Sky | July 22, 2013 6:04 PM

Nobody owes you an explanation of why Big Snow is deciding to close. Hope that helps.

I'm gay lol

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 6:24 PM

I think I saw the thugs who shot up Big Snow. Four guys drove by in an old shitwagagon. I couldn't tell who the shooter was but one guy had dreadlocks, 2 others were wearing doo-rags, and one guy who got out of the car looked like he was wearing no pants , just boxers.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 6:30 PM

Does anyone know if 285 has a liquor license cause I'd love to shut Todd Penis down. I will call the cops on that old grumpy ass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 9:14 PM

Maybe Yoni got shot by Todd P for encroaching on P's turf.

ALL HAIL BIG SNOW

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:27 PM

Wow this has gotten stupid. Pretty scary considering half of you probably hang out in the same bars everyone in Brooklyn goes to. This makes me want to stay at home forever to avoid ever meeting your passive aggressive douchebag asses. Go take out your aggression out somewhere else, like Fox News.

Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2013 10:50 PM

Of course BrooklynVegan has done nothing legally wrong in posting this, but to not take into consideration how people FEEL when they post something shows that this media outlet is like so many other heartless machines that write thoughtless drivel in order to promote themselves, attract traffic, etc. It's not like BV didn't have a choice to post this. If the intention of this site is promote music in NYC, don't you think you should have some sort of respect for the people who are providing venues for musicians and artist to thrive?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 12:16 AM

Anyone still into this convo is dumb as shit...anyone calling it a convo (me alone) is dumb as shit. Brooklyn Vegan, who are great, reports shit we still check in on (obviously).. Yoni is ok, in decent spirits, reflective - but also maybe could have curbed some thoughts. Life rules, dude got shot, you guys think it's funny but the assholes making fun of it kinda make me want to shoot you in the arm. Live music is really all that is left. Music is still important, this venue was integral. blah blah blah. Everything about this place not being around is shitty, and I will miss it even though I only went there 4 times in my life. Because it's (pedestal time) that small venue that is 6 thousand times better than Spike Hill, The Flat, Grand Victory or any other under 100 venue in brooklyn that isn't a temporary loft or permanent joke. Comments? Anyone making a funny (so, so funny btw) joke that ultimately only makes thyself chuckle inside inaudibly about someone taking a FUCKING BULLET needs to basically shoot themselves in the arm to see what's up. It's not a paper cut, or akin to falling off the stage when you thought you had it covered height-wise while you were ironically covering some already shitty Weezer song at Delancey or wherever. Yoni - we wish you only the best, and even though we know you're reading these, don't fucking read them. Switch off. we're already post-apocalyptic, and don't quite realize that we are. Only true lonely fucked-up assholes leave the truly horrible and negative comments on this thing. Get shot. All of you. See what its like. PS i don't give a fuck what you think about my stupid ass diatribe here - so everyone, in general, continue to make closet racist comments to each and continue to make ironic jokes about the dumbest shit. Life's too short not to. Hug your mom, call (don't text) an old friend, Etc.

Posted by Sam Drescher | July 23, 2013 1:35 AM

It completely boggles my mind that people would act like such total shit head lowlifes and mock someone from the DIY community for closing a space after getting shot.

Posted by George | July 23, 2013 1:40 AM

mang, I haven't felt a need to visit this website for the past 3 years until my friend got shot. If these comments are any indication of the kinds of people that read this... I can't even finish this sentence. I feel physically sick.

1 thing for the BV defenders: Yoni said he asked them NOT to print this story, and their bullshit response doesn't acknowledge this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 1:49 AM

1:35 Sam TLDR : "I post embarrassing, self-important drivel when I'm drunk and online."

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 6:19 AM

you guys realize all these trolls posting comments probably don't live in brooklyn.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 8:15 AM

Sam Drescher blow goats. I have proof.

Posted by Phil Mickelson | July 23, 2013 9:09 AM

please don't do your job as the press because my friend had a puff piece that almost done.

hahaha....

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 9:43 AM

1:40 I wasn't mocking ANYONE. And no one needs to tell me exactly why Big Snow is being closed. But I think it's important for people to know that it wasn't strictly because someone got shot. At the very least it would maybe alleviate some of the fear that could arise from an event like this. I don't get why this is so hard for people to understand.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 10:00 AM

lol white people

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 10:23 AM

What's really amazing about this is how butt hurt Yoni's friends are are a bunch of douchey comments, but not one has expressed any outrage whatsoever over the thugs/ bastards who shot Bro #1.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 10:45 AM

Yoni's friends seem like a bunch of out of touch self-entitled monsters.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 11:41 AM

Dear Brooklyn Vegan,

I've never commented here before, but I wanted to let you know this is the last time I'll be visiting your site. I'm sure you don't care; there seem to be enough mouth-breathing dickheads (and probably a few nice people) visiting your site to keep the Converse ad money rolling in, so one less occasional-reader is probably no sweat off your back.

Here's the thing: sure, you were totally within your rights to post this story. I dunno what your correspondence with Yoni leading up to this was like, so that's between you and him. Whatever. But you're also well within your rights to take down some of the more insidious and hurtful comments about a friend of mine (and presumably yours) who was shot and nearly killed last week. But you're choosing not to do that. And that, Brooklyn Vegan (member of Spin Music, a division of SpinMedia), is wildly irresponsible.

You guys are supposed to be supporting local music. The story was relevant, in that it covered the demise of a dearly beloved local venue. The bile your readers are spewing below the story is not relevant. It does nothing to support Brooklyn music; it just gives assholes a forum to take anonymous cheap shots at a good man who was shot, and whose shooter remains at large and likely will never be caught.

The really sad thing, though, is that you're keeping this stuff up because your cesspool of a comments section is what drives your web traffic. I mean, you can't possibly think that not moderating your comments is "encouraging healthy debate," right? And it's not like you really offer any coverage that isn't handled by a dozen other blogs and websites; but apparently being the 4Chan of the music blogosphere is enough to get you linked up with a big ol' media conglomerate, and all that sweet ad money that comes along with it. Must be nice.

So yeah, this is it for me. I'm out. Best of luck in all your endeavors. Commenters, have fun in your parents' basements in Boise. I hope some day you actually make it to Brooklyn, because the music community is great and most of the people are really nice. Everyone else, I'll see you at Delinquency when it re-opens.

^ blah blah blah, first time on the internet dickhead?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 12:33 PM

Of course he went to Wesleyan. I mean, it's hilariously perfect.

It's sad that someone got shot, but Yoni and his friends are insufferable. They are delusional. Apparently they think there are one set of rules that apply to them, and another set of rules that apply to everyone else in the world. Fuck these little creeps.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 12:40 PM

1240 nailed it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 12:48 PM

These kids want to live a super gritty urban lifestyle until they wind up living a super gritty urban lifestyle.

Their behavior is embarrassing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 12:54 PM

HAHAHAHA. WHAT?! 12:40,
"It's sad that someone got shot, but Yoni and his friends are insufferable. They are delusional. Apparently they think there are one set of rules that apply to them, and another set of rules that apply to everyone else in the world. Fuck these little creeps. "

Um, I lost you. What the fuck are you even talking about? I think someone else is delusional here. You're like the 58 year old principal in a brown tweed suit calling the Senior Prom evil.

I'm sorry.. you're just too funny. Do you have smoke coming out of your ears too, you puffed-up, angry little person?

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 1:17 PM

Note: 12:32's name is "VanWyngarden"... yeah, that's really street, dude.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 1:26 PM

^let's make it simple

-BV runs a story (well within it's rights)

-Yoni et al, act like petulant children because they fell like BV needs their permission to report news.

-BV commenters remind Yoni et al. about the first amendment.

-Yoni et al. don't like it, but gradually concede that BV doesn't need their permission to do anything.

-Yoni, while on one hand saying it is a private matter, is preparing with his friend a puff piece to be run in the Village Voice.

-BV commenters make fun of them as they're known to do

-Yoni and his friends act like Yoni is the first person ever to be shot or rankled on the internet.

-BV commenters continue making fun of these overly privileged, out of touch, little dweebs.

And that's about where we are.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 1:31 PM

"I've never commented here before, but I wanted to let you know this is the last time I'll be visiting your site"

Max will not be coming back to this site until his shitty little band needs some worthwhile coverage from a blog that lots of people actually read.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 1:40 PM

1:26, yeah... he must really be a nobody... or something...

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 1:45 PM

"Note: 12:32's name is "VanWyngarden"... yeah, that's really street, dude."

Ugghhhh, I think it's Time to Pretend you didn't even say that. My name's my name. Stop acting like a bunch of Kids.

Posted by Andrew VanWyngarden | July 23, 2013 1:46 PM

1:31 - I wish I'd read your post instead of going through this entire thread. Well done.

By the way, in L.A. in the 90's, the best punk clubs were in truly shitty neighborhoods... and if someone got fucked up trying to get back to their car because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, they'd get fucked up. No one had any illusions that they had a magic bubble around them just because they liked cool music. Kids these days...

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2013 2:09 PM

Can all you guys just shut the fuck up and settle this with a dance off, like you know you want to?
