Deafheaven

After a sold-out Saint Vitus show (7/2) gave way to a second show at 285 Kent (7/4), black-metal tinged shoegaze quintet Deafheaven sold-out that space too. The two dates, separated by a show in Boston at TT Bear's, were part of a larger tour for the band with special guest Marriages. Additional support at Saint Vitus on July 2 came from heavy shoegazers Nothing (featuring Nick of Whirr on guiter, they'll tour together soon) and support at 285 Kent on July 4 featured a dark ambient set from Montreal's Aun and an industrial/noise set from Brooklyn's Theologian. Pictures from both shows are in this post.

In addition to the shows, photographer Lukas Hodge spent some time embedded with the band, taking pictures of Deafheaven backstage, on the road, and at play. More pictures, an interview, and a thoughful piece on the band are available at InvisibleOranges. It's worth a look for sure.

In related news, Nothing will play a headlining show of their own tonight at Paper Box (7/8), joined by support from Lazyeyes, Turnip King, The Backhomes and Treatment. $7 gets you into this 21+ show. The band returns in one month for a show at Saint Vitus, part of a larger tour.

More pictures/video from Deafheaven's Saint Vitus and 285 Kent shows are below.

St. Vitus show was longer/better but it was a great way to spend the 4th!

Nothing were great. Deafheaven, on the other hand, are so over-hyped

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 2:07 PM

207 Nope. I thought the opposite. Nothing's music was great but the girl's voice annoyed me. Deafheaven killed it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 2:21 PM

The crowd was annoying, but Deafheaven were great.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 2:42 PM

@2:21 the band with the girl was "Marriages". "Nothing" was the first band (before Marriages)

Nothing and I mean NOTHING says black metal like a white Telecaster.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 3:13 PM

Deafheaven is to black metal what Jet is to rock and roll.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 3:14 PM

all of these bands suck

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 3:22 PM

That's the girl from Red Sparrows, Marriages sounds good

2:42- exactly

The crowd was VERY annoying at 285, I saw some weird guido/hipster hybrids fist pumping like what the fuck? Also the crowd rushing the stage and hoping all over was annoying but Deafheaven played awesomely. Aun and Theologian are interesting and Marriages is just miserable live. Wish I could have caught Nothing at Saint Vitus looks like it was a better show and the venue is better but whatever cool way to spend to the 4th of July

Gloves? What next, ironic Xs on his hand?

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 6:25 PM

those videos make this look amazing. Great sound and tight band. so bummed I missed this. I was stuck in bridgehampton over the holidays at my moms house. fuck. these guys are going to be huge and i could have seen them play a small venue before they got big.

Posted by Anonymous | July 8, 2013 9:38 PM

Deafheaven is ready for their Hot Topic. I wonder why they aren't touring with the Warped Tour this summer.
