My friend went to this and he was slightly dissapointed.. he said he only had fun, fun...not fun, fun, fun so he will not go next year.

Last two years have been mediocre.

I would go because Slayer is there, but isn't Slayer anymore (RIP Jeff) and the rest is just fluff.

Although UNLOCKING THE TRUTH will be there!

Fingers crossed for good aftershows!!

American festivals are so boring compared to European festivals. Look at the line up for Melt! Festival in Germany happening this weekend for example...

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 8:52 AM

Whoa, the fucking Impossibles are back?

Also, didn't Slayer just play a year or two ago? That's kind of meh for that reason.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 9:05 AM

Slayer without Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo just isn't Slayer. There's obviously not much they can do now about Jeff, but they shouldn't be calling themselves Slayer while still ass-kicking drummer like Dave Lombardo is left out of his band.

the Locust still plays shows?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 9:28 AM

Melt! looks terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 9:29 AM

929 it's because you have terrible taste in music and only listen to what pitchfork tells you!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 9:51 AM

Jeff wasn't been playing in Slayer for YEARS before he died, that reason is bunk. One man did not make that band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 9:57 AM

Meh Meh Meh fest this year

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:05 AM

Fact - Melt sucks

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:09 AM

Melt is cool if you prefer laptops instead of guitars. And, I don't understand someone saying that agreeing with pitchfork would be bashing Melt....it's pretty much a roster of who that site pushes.

totally feeling that james murphy dj set at Melt!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:21 AM

How can it be the Fun Fun Fun Fest if fun. isn't playing?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:22 AM

Melt is a bunch of EDM garbage... fuck that. SLAYER!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:25 AM

Holy shit! The Impossibles!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:29 AM

10:25 doesn't know what edm is

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:31 AM

How on earth does MGMT still command headliner status 6 years after their only popular album?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:44 AM

I don't know what EDM is, but I am pretty sure my casio k800, with the rhumba beat, could easily headline MELT

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:51 AM

^that is a phat beat!

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 11:24 AM

I'm already going. I like the lineup. But MGMT as a headliner is a disappointing joke. And Slayer without Hanneman/Lombardo is also a little 'meh.'

This looks light by about 30 bands from previous years' lineups. Hope that changes.

8:52 -- Melt festival is superior? How? Just because it's in Germany? Looks like that fest has lots of filler and the same acts playing American festivals: DIIV, Dan Deacon, Chvrches etc etc.

Who is in the lineup for Television? Don't care for the Tom Verlaine + Jimmy Rip version.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 12:15 PM

Television in 2006 was probably the most disappointing show I've ever attended.

Endless indulgent (and unremarkable) blues jams broken up by openly begrudging, half-assed takes on a few old songs. Tarnished a band I had always loved.

SAUSAGE TENT
GRAPE SODA TENT
HUMMUS TENT

You probably saw the Tom Verlaine version of Television. I agree, not worth it. Jimmy Rip basically does whatever Verlaine tells him to do. Lloyd makes the band.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 1:52 PM

WTF is the "Tom Verlaine version" of Television? He's always been in the band... Lloyd left in 2007 due to illness. That's the only lineup change since Richard Hell left in 75.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 2:13 PM

the "Tom Verlaine version of Television" is the one without Richard Lloyd. hugely inferior, but Verlaine playing Television songs is better than Verlaine playing Verlaine solo songs.

I'm pretty sure Television has never played a "blues jam" in its history.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 2:27 PM

No Danzig?

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 2:39 PM

So I guess the Pixies in 2013 are the "Frank Black version" of the Pixies?

Your statement lacks logic.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 2:51 PM

The original version of Television was a band. The current version is Tom Verlaine's ego. Pass.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 6:29 PM

The version now is 3/4th of the same line up since the late 70s! Just minus Richard loyd.

Posted by Anonymous | July 10, 2013 10:23 PM

Richard Lloyd kept Verlaine in check. Without him, it is a wankfest.

Posted by e3lanat | July 11, 2013 10:08 PM

Harley Flanagan now plays bass in Television. You should hear Little Johnny Jewel.

Posted by Anonymous | July 11, 2013 11:50 PM

I hope Richard Hell stabs him

Posted by Anonymous | July 12, 2013 3:30 AM

I've got to get myself back up to America for this next year. Looks like good times and the line up sounds insane!

Tarnished a band I had always loved.

I mean don't get me wrong, I like thrasher and I'm skate or die til I die, but this looked straight lame as fuck... maybe it was the whack edit.. or the wrestling... or the faggy white boy hipsters.
