Pere Ubu

Hopefully the second tweet (above) from Pere Ubu isn't a real declaration. The band, who recently scheduled a North American tour that includes a stop in NYC at Bowery Ballroom on September 12, are suffering from the old Visa Issues, which is a little strange as they're an American band.

This stems from  the current line-up of the Cleveland post-punk icons, which includes a couple members who are not U.S. citizens. Frontman David Thomas explained further on the band's Facebook: "The only solution is to fire Moline and Dids and I ain't doing it. I am exhausted with paperwork and I don't care anymore."

Hopefully they can work it out. Fingers crossed.

"Read the second paragraph idiots, they explain it right there."

Reading comprehension is overrated. Give me less than 140 characters or death!

this doesn't seem like something that should be a problem - is the visa process just that fucked up or did these guys wait too long to start the process?

Gotta say--David Thomas is a bit of a diva.. Let me make that a real diva.. so I wouldn't take pronoucements too seriously. I think he likes hearing his funny ol noises too much to quit music.

David Thomas should just say that Daft Punk might be playing with them on this tour - that should get the State Department to green light everything.

That, or say he's the founder of Wendy's. Though maybe they're confusing him with Rick Moranis' buddy in 'Strange Brew', eh?

you got to give David Thomas serious props for continuing pere ubu for over 35 years now in spite of all odds. Lack of popularity. Lack of profit. Pere Ubu is a great AMERICAN band. That there are being denied visa to travel and play in America is truly ridiculous. First trayvon martin and now this. what next?

Continuing them for 35 years? You know they've not played for 5 year stretches several times. When Thomas needs money he resurrects the name, hires some people with no connection to the original band, turns off his tv, rolls out of his recliner and plays a few shows. Retiring at this point might not be bad idea.

I blame Obama. he lets all his stalinist jihadis into the country, but not the job creators. Guess they should have promised to help steal another election, if they wanted to come here.
