Scottish alt-rock vets Simple Minds are coming across the pond this fall for their first North American dates in quite a while. Those dates include one in NYC at Roseland Ballroom on October 24. Tickets to that show are currently on fan presale (Password: “newgolddream”) with a Citi Cardmember presale starting July 23 and will go on sale to the general public July 26 at noon. Simple Minds will also play the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ on October 17. Tickets to that show are on fan presale as well (promo code “4xb3bo”), with the the general onsale starting Friday (7/19) at noon. The current line-up of the band features core members Jim Kerr (vocals), Charlie Burchill (guitar) and Mel Gaynor (drums).

For those who only know Simple Minds from The Breakfast Club soundtrack, the band just released an extremely comprehensive, best of compilation titled Celebrate. It chronicles the band from its art-rock beginnings through early-’80s anthemic heyday, to subsequent international stardom and beyond. You can stream it at Spotify. While the band, who always tended to drink their own kool-aid, suffered from U2-envy and ensuing self-importance bloat by the ’90s, some of their records (especially New Gold Dream and Sparkle in the Rain) are prime examples of Reagan-era widescreen pop at its finest.
