Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Swirlies, Grooms, Pure Sunray @ Knitting Factory
Veteran shoegazers Swirlies just wrapped up their tour with Kurt Vile & the Violators (the two share a member), and will warm down tonight with a show featuring fellow noisemakers Grooms.

Rakim, Whodini, Big Daddy Kane, Chubb Rock @ Wingate Field (FREE)
It's old school hip hop night for the free Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series at Wingate Field tonight, with a stacked lineup only featuring veterans (and some undeniable legends) of the genre.

Gogol Bordello @ Vintage Vinyl
The gypsy punks will be in NYC tomorrow night for a headlining sold-out Music Hall of Williamsburg gig, but before that they're doing a couple in-store appearances in the area, like tonight's at NJ's Vintage Vinyl.

fun., Tegan and Sara @ Pier 26
You won't see us there during the headliner's set, but starting your night on the newly opened Pier 26 watching Tegan & Sara doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

Sediment Club, Trucker Stanley's Night Dreams, Blanche Blanche Blanche, Radio Shock, Sporting Life (of RatKing) @ Silent Barn
Silent Barn hosts a great, diverse bill tonight. It's especially worth seeing no wavers Sediment Club (whose lineup includes Austin Julian, son of Cynthia from Bush Tetras and Ivan from the Voidoids), psych pop weirdos Blanche Blanche, and Sporting Life, who is a member of indie rap crew Ratking.

SSPS, Quazzy The Kid, Diamond Terrifier @ Secret Project Robot
Secret Project Robot has a strong billing of the avant-garde tonight, with SSPS, Quzzy the Kid, and sax wizard Diamond Terrifier (aka Sam Hillmer of Zs).

Some good comedy shows tonight include Wyatt Cenac, Kate Berlant, Rob Cantrell, Doogie Horner, David Smithyman @ Littlefield, Broken Comedy w/ Hannibal Buress, Taylor Ketchum @ Bar Matchless, and Mike Birbiglia @ Union Hall.

Hannibal Buress will NOT be at Matchless tonight. That link is from a show last year, stop using it.

I love the disclaimer on the entry for "fun." at Pier 26. "You won't see us there during the headliner's set..."
Whatever, dude. Because God forbid you got caught seeing a mainstream band. Your rep would be ruined! Forever! You will never be let into a Bushwick bar ever again! Your hipster membership card will be revoked!

4:32 I think it is more based on the fact that fun is a terrible fucking band

4:50, but that brings me to rule #2.. never shall a hipster admit that a mainstream band/artist is good. Unless that mainstream artist is black (i.e. Jay Z, Kanye).

"fun." is not worse than some of the other crap this website peddles. The only difference is that "fun." is a commercial success.

This is my favorite band since 1992, so to see people hearing and liking 20yrs later is sooooo good.
