…And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Ume, Red Paintings @ Maxwell’s
Despite the ever-changing personnel and, as a direct result, instrumentation of Trail of Dead, the epic punk/prog band remains a consistent force. Though their albums tend to be hit and miss as a whole, Trail of Dead’s parade of hits bolstered by their explosive live show is unmissable. Add to that this is the last week of Maxwell’s and it should be no surprise this is sold out.

Gogol Bordello, A Tribe Called Red @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Happy album release day to Gogol Bordello! Their newest, Pura Vida Conspiracy, is out today, and at 1 PM the gypsy punks play an in-store at Urban Outfitters, followed by a sold-out show at Music Hall of Williamsburg tonight.

Weekend @ Clocktower Gallery
Weekend release their dark, brooding (and danceable) second album, Jinx, this week and tonight they play a release show. You had to pre-order the album to get into this one.

The Defibulators, Villalobos Brothers @ Union Pool
Do you like your country and bluegrass without the shine of the many recent recordings that get those tags? Brooklyn’s The Defibulators will be right up your alley. Catch a hometown show at Union Pool tonight.

Future Bible Heroes, The Luxury Liners, Cold Blood Club @ Bowery Ballroom
Yes, it is really weird that Stephin Merritt isn’t touring with his group Future Bible Heroes (whose new album on Merge is pretty good). That said, they were still fun when they played Chickfactor 21 last month. Tickets are still available.

Franz Ferdinand DJ Set and Album Listening Party @ Glasslands
Franz Ferdinand won’t release their new album until August, and they won’t play live in NYC until October, but tonight they’re coming to Brooklyn to throw a listening party for their new album. And they’ll also be DJing, along with Liv Spencer.

Monkey: Journey to the West @ Lincoln Center
Damon Albarn, Chen Shi-Zheng, and Jamie Hewlett’s musical take on one of China’s most famous tales is part opera, part Cirque du Soleil. Also part of the Lincoln Center Festival.

fun., Tegan and Sara @ Pier 26
You won’t see us there during the headliner’s set, but starting your night on the newly opened Pier 26 watching Tegan & Sara doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all.

LORDO, Spires, Coasta, Candide @ Pianos
We’re pretty sure Brooklyn’s Spires have heard The Stone Roses’ first LP, given the groovy, psychedelic jangle of their songs. Tonight, they wrap up their July residency at this LES club with performances from LODRO, Coasta and Candide adding support.

Landlady, Railbird, Little Anchor, Johanna Samuels @ Cameo Gallery
This is a release show for Little Anchor for their Floating Bridges EP, but if you’re going to this show stick around for slinky/sultry group Railbird who we’ve profiled in the past.

Seu Jorge @ Blue Note
Brazilian star Seu Jorge — best known in America for singing Portuguese versions of Bowie songs in The Life Aquatic — is here for a week run of intimate shows as Blue Note.

She Bears, The Sewing Machine War @ Cake Shop
Columbus Ohio’s She Bears released their debut album, I Found Myself Asleep, on classic emo label Deep Elm back in 2010. What are they up to these days? Check ’em out tonight.

The Lemonheads, Colin Ruel @ The Wonder Bar (Asbury Park, NJ)
Evan Dando and his current line-up of The Lemonheads play the legendary Asbury Park venue tonight, likely treating the crowd to to ’90s favorites like “It’s a Shame About Ray,” “Big Gay Heart” and more.
