Something inside me tells me that Goodie Mob will be the special guest, HELLO.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 6:06 PM

No Cerebral Ballzy? I'm shocked.

Living Colour is the ONLY good band on this bullshit.

They should be headlining.

Something tells me that the person who thinks that Goodie Mob will be the special guest is unfamiliar with either their tour schedule or the big event in NYC on Sunday night, HELLO.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 10:29 PM

My source says Daft Spunk is a special guest.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 10:52 PM

Death is awesome. Worth showing up just for them.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 11:12 PM

Will Diabetes be opening for Death at this year's Afro-Punk Festival?

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 11:44 PM

Can't be Kanye as he is performing in ATL on Sat at a private event.

Posted by Anonymous | August 20, 2013 11:57 PM

I think the avalanches will perform.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 12:09 AM

10:12 WAAAAHHHH!!!

blipsters LolZ

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 9:58 AM

3:57 - Go back to whatever backwoods redneck village you come from you racist fuck. I know you're probably just think you're trolling, but your comments are simply ignorant, vile and hurtful. People like you are the reason why so many innocent young black men wind up dead or in jail. This is simply a music festival. Just because it has the word "Afro" in it you think it's funny to assume there will be violence? Go fuck yourself!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 10:47 AM

lol @ 10:47

He is so mad that he spilled his artisanal grape soda.

It's true though, it's comments like 3:57 that make people equate African Americans and violence. That's why. Makes perfect sense.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 10:56 AM

Racist fuck 11:13 fuck you.

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 11:34 AM

'Afro-Punk' is the stupidest thing in the world. It's about as regressive as the term 'African Americans'. Look there is 'punk' and there are 'Americans'. The second you make that distinction you're really doing a grave disservice to the constituency you're supposed to be serving. But I guess race baiting is a viable career choice for Razzle.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 11:41 AM

Razzle the dork who used to go to hardcore shows in the early-mid '90s? LOL

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 12:33 PM

^one and the same

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 12:39 PM

^ Keep obsessing over me asswipe.

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 12:43 PM

Hebrew-Reggae coming soon!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 12:45 PM

12:44 you can't be that dumb. The examples you give are identifiers of the type of music being made, not the ethnicity of the musicians making it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 12:46 PM

^if it was FROM Africa that would make sense.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 1:03 PM

^it's a ridiculously regressive idea. How does Anglo-Punk sound to you? Think a scene that identified itself as such, or employed that qualifier would be cool? It's bullshit, and blacks in America have been falling for this sort of double standard, falsely sold to them as 'pride' or 'progress' for the last 50 years. How is it working out?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 1:28 PM

African is the proper adjective pertaining to black culture.

You would be corrected by at least one person if you used "Afro" which is derogatory slang for an African American person's hair.

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 1:44 PM

African is the proper adjective pertaining to AFRICAN culture.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 1:46 PM

^correct. An all white punk band from Sun City would technically be more 'Afro-Punk' than any of the bands playing this festival.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 1:53 PM

...and African-American culture.

I meant African is the proper adjective for American black culture.

Or to put it simply, it's African-American, not Afro-American, and you knew I was saying that, wiseass.

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 1:53 PM

^how about we just have punk rock for ALL Americans?

But there is no $ in that for Razzle and his ilk.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 2:00 PM

GG allin was really black. He got reverse skin osmosis, and turned it from black to white as a way to say that skin color doesn't matter.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 2:20 PM

white people arguing black culture
lol

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 2:50 PM

^ Spike Lee what're you doing up in here hahaha.

2:00 Agreed save on the Razzle part - he's making $.

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 3:25 PM

lolwhitepeople

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 3:33 PM

And it's not even 'punk'. They should call it the 'Black People Who Make Any Other Music Than Gangsta Rap Performing Under Corporate Sponsorship To Capitalize on Emerging Markets Festival'.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 3:42 PM

#lolwhitepeople

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 3:54 PM

^ What's your problem with white people?

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 5:22 PM

Will they be selling artesianal grape soda at this Afro hair party?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 6:01 PM

I hope someone shits, and throws it at the audience.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 6:01 PM

Can't you be black, and not from africa?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 6:19 PM

I bet frohawk will not be in attendance.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 6:38 PM

This show will almost be as punk as those upcoming Blink 182 shows.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 6:56 PM

When is the Afrohawk-punk festival curated by Frohawk

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 8:02 PM

6:56pm The Blink 182 show in NYC is a benefit - pretty punk to me.

Posted by D | August 21, 2013 8:10 PM

6:36 you big dummy. Do you think say Absolut Vodka is throwing $ to this thing because they're patrons of the arts?

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 8:17 PM

These benefit concerts are exactly against what rock n roll is fucking about. It is to run against society, and everything that it stands for.

Posted by GG Allin | August 21, 2013 8:22 PM

^benefit....hahaha

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 8:25 PM

Look if you're going to get blipsters to drink Grolsch you got to get them young.

That's fine. But they should really call this Afro-Business-as-Usual Fest.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 8:29 PM

to the person who commented "how many niggas got shot last year"....no one has ever gotten shot or seriously injured. Sorry, try again. We can't speak about racial profiling when you're doing it to your own people.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 8:30 PM

God damn Sunday shits all over Saturday

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 9:52 PM

Just about every commenter on this page is going to feel really stupid come Saturday night

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 10:54 PM

BV comment section is becoming too dumb these days.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2013 11:05 PM

beta male black dudes are stoked for this!

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 12:19 AM

How did GG Allin's butt not become chaffed from his non-wiped shit? I can't fathom this aspect-- I may just watch one of those recorded shit shows.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 2:12 AM

he was on heroin, he did not feel the chafe.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 3:33 AM

I read all of this and I'm sad now

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 7:46 AM

I don't mind sentimental girls sometimes.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 2:25 PM

What time does the wilding start ?

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 9:55 PM

lol at BV for censoring not the straight up racist shit, but instead the comments w/ dumb ass logic defending this counter-progressive, straight up for profit, 'scene'. Too funny.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 10:27 PM

^Fuck you, my censored comments had great logic and were extremely articulated but were trying to get the old format back.

Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2013 11:10 PM

wait i thought Grimes was djing

Posted by Anonymous | August 23, 2013 5:14 PM

I don't having anything against the artists in this festival. That said, I think the term "Afropunk" is meaningless, at least musical movement. Janelle Monae, Cee Lo Green, and Erykah Badu have nothing to do with punk. It seems like it has more to do with racial integration among musical genres/fan bases, which is a good thing. There also a fashion sense to Afropunk. But musically, Afropunk is meaningless, at least as represented by this festival. If someone can curate a festival made up of punk-oriented black musicians, that would be really cool.

Posted by pdiddy202 | August 26, 2013 5:31 PM

Chuck D.=best thing to happen to Hip Hop. EVER.

Posted by Jeff | October 12, 2013 5:02 PM

Afropunk movement is full of shit, in my opinion. All these niggas are just band wagoners

Posted by Jack | January 30, 2014 11:39 AM

One of the best protopunk bands ever, up there with the Sonics. Both bands are criminally underrated, but ESPECIALLY Death.

Posted by Deborah | February 7, 2014 7:13 AM
