CMJ 2013

The 2013 CMJ Music Marathon happens from October 15 - 19 at clubs all over New York City. As we've been tweeting about at @BVCMJ, tonight (8/27), the CMJ folks held an announcement party at Bowery Electric with live performances from Weekend and Magic Man.

They also announced their initial line-up for this year's fest, which includes Kevin Drew, The Long Winters, Real Estate, Obits, The Dismemberment Plan (Terminal 5), Pelican (who are playing both of our Invisible Oranges showcases at Saint Vitus), Jacco Gardner, Good Riddance, Godflesh, Eagulls, the Pendu Sound showcase, and many more.

We'll have a set of pics from Weekend and Magic Man soon, but for now peruse the full initial CMJ 2013 line-up below.

Will Emmy the Great be back again?

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 7:39 PM

Fucck whoever Firehorse are for making me think firehose were on this for a second.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 7:59 PM

CMJ: Hating hardcore punk since the 1980s.

Wow FUCK this "festival" for not having a SINGLE hardcore punk band.

If you went by CMJ you'd never think the scene it exists because of existed, that's right NO HARDCORE PUNK SCENE NO ALTERNATIVE ROCK SCENE.

No grunge, Riot Grrl, Beastie Boys, whiteboy rap, Korn, Slipknot, nu-metal, Warped Tour, Lollapalooza, NOTHING!

Posted by D | August 27, 2013 8:04 PM

wow!!! Kevin Drew!!

this could be the 'who gives a fuck' line-up of the decade

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 8:09 PM

This is awful cuz I just bought my ticket for Godflesh the other day without realizing it was a CMJ show :'(

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 8:19 PM

Why do people still care about CMJ?

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 8:34 PM

"Why do people still care about CMJ?"

There's a sucker born every minute.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 8:41 PM

I guess this is because I had very annoying experiences last year, but it just seems like it's a big list of "If you want or are going to see this band, here's your chance to do it, but we're going to make the shows and experience much more frustrating for you by flooding them with pseudo-media jackoffs with enormous cameras getting in the way" artists to see that week.

Unfortunately for me, 3 bands out of 4 (4 shows in 4 consecutive days) are listed here. The only one I'm free of these CMJ cocksmokers is Between the Buried and Me (I guess I'm greatful for CMJ not giving a shit about this band though!).

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 9:16 PM

This line-up kinda sounds like it could be any random consecutive 4 days in New York, right? No festival required.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 10:05 PM

lots of ghosts the last couple of years i see.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 10:43 PM

Meh

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 11:16 PM

free

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 11:16 PM

I'm gonna use my college station to get free tickets.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 11:17 PM

Brooklyn Vegan censors the dumbest stuff. anything with free is heavily subject to censorship

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 11:18 PM

Already going to Godflesh

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2013 11:20 PM

Happy I am seeing Godflesh in Philly as well. There should be a less annoying crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:20 AM

12:20, I'll be there too. I'll be the guy eating the hummustito.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:28 AM

What is a hummustito? Are you serious? Its only the finest cocktail created from the finest chickpeas, placed in a mohito glass, and served with organic pita chips glazed with truffle oil.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:36 AM

Going to see Godflesh in NYC and Boston.... Excited.
Weekend killed it tonight. Awesome set.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:40 AM

no Grimes?

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:43 AM

12:40, Boston is supposed to have amazing Hummustito's look out for them.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:45 AM

My source says that Daft Punk will be playing at CMJ.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:45 AM

Godflesh is a terrible bandname; I am enjoying picturing all the mooks at a Godflesh show. Pool Cosby, however, have a moniker that makes me chuckle--though I don't actually know if they're any good.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 3:28 AM

Less annoying crowd in Philly? No. Only annoying people live there. Pls go back. Worst city: Boston or Philly? Discuss.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 10:02 AM

8:04 doesnt get it

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 10:19 AM

From reading his comment it seems 8:04 doesn't get a lot of things, mainly the English language.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 10:35 AM

Not a single good band in that entire lineup. Nice.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 11:06 AM

@11:06, yeah okay. Your band should play...

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 11:17 AM

Who's the dimbulb making fun of Godflesh? Someone forcefeed them shrooms and lock them in a room with Streetcleaner blasting. That'll learn 'em.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 12:09 PM

Is Broken Social Scene presenting Kevin Drew? BSS was the talk of CMJ '04

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 2:08 PM

I hope Godspeed adds a CMJ show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 28, 2013 10:52 PM

"Why do people still care about CMJ?"

The same reason they care about CBGB's or The Wetlands.

WHO THE FUCK KNOWS?!

Posted by paul | August 29, 2013 8:22 PM

12:09: Not necessary. The frumpy scarf's self-loathing will kick in soon enough, so it's only a matter of a short time before he slits his wrists to wah-wahs like the Antlers or something.

Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2013 8:26 PM

RATD = RAD

Posted by Julian | August 29, 2013 11:04 PM

Not a single good band in that entire lineup. Nice.

Posted by Nice | August 30, 2013 2:34 PM

Dude. No good bands how could you possibly say that? You have the musical prowess to be familiar with ALL these bands? Wow, I for one am excited to be exposed to some music I have not have had the opportunity to hear. Also CALVIN LOVE pretty excited about him. Saw him with Mac Demarco, he rules!!

Posted by sarah reynolds | September 3, 2013 10:18 PM

First CMJ in forever where I was actually "woah" a few times scanning down the list. This one would actually be worth it for both the 'guarantees' + the new potentials factors.

Posted by Anonymous | September 4, 2013 2:39 AM

The Griswolds are going to be there!! Ok now i really cant wait. After hearing their new EP “Hear of a lion” i cant stop. http://ow.ly/owRcw

And that new video for Afraid is pretty dope too

Posted by acompanhantes curitiba | April 29, 2014 8:29 PM

Sorry guys, I rarely give a thumbs down...but this was more artificial than anything the Weekertans ever contrived. Sappy and very weak. The talent is there, the execution is lacking.

Posted by Eric | May 9, 2014 6:12 AM

i love is work! Stream the album over at NPR and don't miss out on their free CMJ set...thanks!

Posted by massagem tantrica | May 9, 2014 9:16 AM

Just when you thought things couldn't get any more hipster pretentious. This band and video are trying to force "epic" sooo bad its embarrassing. Leave the social agenda BS at home too, as this vid is riddled with it. I thought this was a parody at first, then read that they are actually for real...wow. I'm sure they'll do well in San Fran and Williamsburg, NY
