Fountains of Wayne

Fountains of Wayne are the kind of tuneful ironists who you could imagine writing a song about a nostalgia tour (or about going to one). That was a thought that went through my head, at least, when I heard about this fall tour they're doing with fellow '90s alt-rock guitar slingers Soul Asylum and Lemonheads' Evan Dando. (All three of whom I own multiple records by, I should say.) The NYC area gets three dates: New Brunswick, NJ's State Theatre on October 1, then Port Chester's Capitol Theater on October 2, and Webster Hall on October 5.

Tickets to all three shows go on sale Friday (8/9) at noon, with Webster Hall getting an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (8/7) at noon; and The State Theatre getting a Ticketmaster presale on Thursday (8/8) at noon. No presales for the Capitol Theatre tickets.

Fountains of Wayne's most recent album is 2011's Sky Full of Holes, which I thought was a pretty good record. Soul Asylum, meanwhile, released Delayed Reaction last summer, their first in six years. All FoW/Soul Asylum/Evan Dando tour dates are listed below.

Oh no, this will be a damn good time. This is good news.

This could be a fun show. FOW have always been underrated, same goes for Soul Asylum. And if Dando stays away from the smack he's ok too.

The world simply does not possess enough drugs and alcohol to accommodate Jody Porter & Evan Dando on tour together.

Sky Full Of Holes is a pop masterpiece.
Dave Pirner is the only original member left in Soul Asylum
And the last time I saw Evan Dando with SOul Asylum he tried to sing Rhiannon with them and Pirner apologized.

What 2:28 said. One time I saw FOW at Bowery Ballroom and they were great. Then I saw them at Bell House and Jody Porter was nearly falling off the stage, barely playing his parts and pretty much spoiling the show. I've heard Evan Dando is quite similar so... I don't really want to risk the money they'll both be having a "good day."

I really want to go to this, and 2:28 is very accurate.

I remember that Bell House show. It was then I realized that FoW exemplified the alcoholic family dynamic: Chris is the Hero, Adam is the Mascot / Clown and Brian is the Lost Child (Jody has the leading role). I saw Chris almost dissociate from the band and become his own act altogether, Adam was so embarrassed and tried to hard to keep everything from falling apart, and Brian seemed like he tired to keep the shit from falling on him. I truly love FoW but damn I was really let down that night and embarrassed for a remarkable band with an exceptional ear for hooks, melody and irony.

^ and I've seen them when Jody is sober and "on" and they can be a force of nature. I still believe that is their natural state. Jody just needs to get the fuck sober and stop feeling so sorry for himself.

I think Dando got clean recently, but I'm not sure if it'll take this time. I hope so.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2013 3:49 PM

Dando gets clean about once a year.

I've seen Dando a couple of times recently, and he's been great.

Jayhawks, Lemonheads and Soul Asylum-Dec 1992 in Boulder, CO

When white people take drugs, it makes me sad.

8:22 that's a good triple bill because they were all in their prime, but The Jayhawks were never in the same league as the other two. Personally I would take this triple bill over that one, even with the age and personnel gaps, all because FoW is leagues above Jayhawks in every category (member genetics aside).

gosh soul asylum sucked so bad. surprised how many of their fans left after their awful set and how trapped they are in some 1990's time warp. Can't imagine a time when that band was ever considered good.
