'70s cult soul artist Shuggie Otis is back in town this week for two shows, both of which are free. On Thursday (8/8) he'll play a lunchtime show (noon) at Metrotech Commons, which is the finale of BAM's 2013 R&B Festival. Then on Sunday (8/11) he'll play Central Park Summerstage with Jose James and Hiatus Kaiyote. That show starts at 7 PM.

Speaking of, Hiatus Kaiyote are from Melbourne, Australia and make laid back, jazzy R&B/soul with maybe just a little trip hop in there too. Questlove and Erykah Badu are fans and the band's new, very listable album, Tawk Tomahawk, is streamable in full, below. The album's final track, "Nakkamara," features Q-Tip and is probably the record's standout cut. Hiatus Kaiyote will also play a headlining show while here on Monday (8/12) at Knitting Factory. Tickets for that show are on sale now. All dates are listed below.

And speaking of Q-Tip, his #Offline party happens tonight (8/7) and every Wednesday at Output's Panther Room. The party starts at 10 PM and tickets are $10.

Meanwhile, Jose James (who plays the Summerstage show) also has other dates, including a just-announced NYC show with FaltyDL happening on November 22 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for that show are currently on AmEx presale, and a general on-sale begins Friday (8/9) at noon. All of his dates are listed below.

Flyers for #Offline and Summerstage, plus Hiatus Kaiyote's album stream and tour schedule, below...

Just FYI, in the story itself, you said today's show started at 7.
We mistakenly believed that, so we just missed the show.
Thanks a bunch for your sloppy editing.
We can send you our completely useless tickets as a souvenir.

Very interesting stuff... I kinda get the vibe of a more jazzy/smooth Dirty Projectors.

This guy was the original PRINCE. He is a mix of Sly Stone, and Foster Sylvers, but totally unique. Way ahead of the shit that was happening during 1973/74.
